Summary: Behind the heroine's shoulder in a Jacobean revenge tragedy
Review: A dark chess game which sets the power struggle between lovers squarely in the middle of the power struggle at a Renaissance Italian court. The tension grabs you from start and lingers long after you have put the book down - in my case more than fifteen years. This is a book about violence, betrayal, double dealing - and even the best characters are in it up to their finely starched ruffs - and the love story is utterly compelling because, not in in spite, of the nightmares. Probably too politically incorrect for today but the sexual tension (and the pangs of misprised love ) fairly sizzle. Read and relish!

Summary: Thoroughly enjoyable romp through Renaissance Italy
Review: A dark prince, an enchanting heroine and enough history and political intrigue thrown in to keep the most hardened romantic cynic enthralled. I read this book when it was first published and again years later and discovered it stands up well in today's romance market. Where has this author gone?

Summary: Cool ! Excellent and this is my all time favourite !!!
Review: Excellent plot!

Very Charming & attractive hero "Domenico" Duke of Cabria who
is unease to his throne. He's full of many character in the same
person...darkside, sweet, cruel, elegant, conflict, kid, etc. but
above of all he is the king of Cabria while the herion "Felicia"
beautiful & naiv maid servant and so the story 's told through her
eyes. Both of them attracted you to stuck on this book and among
the politics of Renaissance Italy with love, revenge but yes it is

romance love story at the end.

Never miss it but rare to find out this book in market. However
when you find it, you never disappointed. You will remember
Domenico & Felicia ....always.

Summary: EXCELLENT, EXQUISITE WITH SHADES OF GREY.
Review: I BOUGHT THIS BOOK IN 1994 FOR $1.50 FIJI $. SINCE THEN I HAVE READ IT AT LEAST FIVE TIMES A YEAR BECAUSE AFTER READING BOOKS IN WHICH HEROS ARE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, I FEEL THIS BOOK SHOWS THE SHADE OF GREY THAT IS PRESENT IN EVERYONE OF US, SO HUURAH FOR THIS AUTHOR.

Summary: Unforgetable book
Review: I first read this book almost 10 years ago and I couldn't put it out of my mind since. I believe that the hero was in fact efter the character from " The prince " by Niccolo Machiavelli in everyway. And Machiavelli himself got the inspiration from Ceasare Borgia. I hope this would help the readers who think Domenico was beyond redemtion to understand him a bit better. Under the circumstances, I do believe that Felicia, had tried her best to survive the situation as un educated, no relative, poor, naive as she was.It was either get along with the situation , make the best out of it or take the easiest way out, kill herself. What could she possibly do against the king of her own land? This book was written in a very beautiful prose in my idea ( as a non English speaking person )The story itself was full of plots. It is still a very beautiful story after all these years for me.

Summary: Does anyone write like this anymore?
Review: I have read this book so many times over the past 15 years that I know every single line, every single character on a first name basis, just everything! If you are interested in reading this book, it's truly a modern day work of fiction. Writing a book like that in the late 1970's had to have been shocking to Ms. Denys' readers. If she were to put it back into print today, and with the right kind of publicity, she would be a major author. I know that this is wishful thinking, but hopefully she will write again someday. This book is an EXCELLENT choice. If it was made into a film, it would put the other Rennaissance period movies (the Oscar winning ones included) to SHAME! Enjoy!

Summary: My All Time Favorite Book
Review: I read this book the first time a good ten years ago, and still the hero stays in my mind. He is such a complex character that you can never really decide if he is good or bad.

Ms. Denys did a phenomenal job on portraying this man. I wish there were more heros like hers today.

Summary: I was disappointed.
Review: I was really looking forward to reading this book. I paid quite a bit of money to be able to read this book, and I wish I hadn't. I was expecting a machaivalian hero, but Domineco was just plain evil with absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. He was a rapist, a brutal murderer and a spoiled, cold brat.
The book was told in first person from the heroine's perspective and because of that all we could do was be victimized by the "hero" and muddle about in the dark looking for the "romance" in this romance novel. It was a gruesome book that made my skin crawl. Only the last five pages were what you would expect from a romance novel.
I can take a difficult read, I don't need flowers and hearts to be satisfied by a romance novel, but this book was just not good at all.
