Summary: Brenda Joyce's Best Yet
Review: A must read! I couldn't put this book down. Takes you back the that one lost love we all have had.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Okay book
Review: Actually, I did not think this book was as bad as some think, but neither did I think it was as good as others think. My opinion only. It was recommended to me by another reader who loved it. The heroine was a bit too flighty for my tastes. I prefer strong, intelligent heroines, or at least a good reason for vacillating. However, I've read The Conqueror and detested that book, and I think that Ms Joyce has certainly drawn much finer characters and created a believable, intriguing plot in Splendor. My suggestion is to read the book for yourself and draw your own conclusions.

Summary: One of the best books I have ever read!
Review: I am an avid reader of romance novels. I have read a few Brenda Joyce novels in the past, but by far, this was the best!! The heroine was someone sweet, and smart. While the hero was all that a hero should be -- funny, smart, strong and most of all intelligent. I laughed out loud, and cried right along with the heroine. I believe this book is a must read for anyone who enjoys true romance!!!

Summary: I agree with the reader from Hawaii
Review: I bought this book expecting a lot - Brenda Joyce is one of my favorite authors, but this one just wasn't up to par with her others. True, it started out interesting, but it got boring fast. The history bogged it down instead of helping. I would recommend buying The Game instead.

Summary: Absolutely Awful!
Review: I find that I agree with every word written by a previous reviewer; so much that I think it should be repeated for anyone planning to buy this book: "The synopsis on the back cover offered so much promise for this story. Unfortunately, it fell way short of its potential. In truth, I could not like the main characters. They annoyed me (especially the heroine). I tend to like strong intelligent women and found her weak. I would never have made such foolish choices, and it went beyond love straight into stupidity. Others seemed to like this book, but I could not erase the annoyance I felt with the selfish hero and weak heroine. There is a difference between laying down your pride and foolishness. I prefer women with a little more self esteem and wisdom.

In addition, I would not recommend this book to impressionable teenage minds. I don't like the way she ignored the advice of her father regarding this married man. It reminded me of a willful selfish and stubborn teenager, who thinks she knows everything. These are not traits that endear me to any character. I found her lacking. Of course, she was not all bad-- but just not good enough.

I am afraid that I cannot recommend this book. This is one of the worst romance novels I have read this year."

Summary: A good read
Review: I found the book rather entertaining. I enjoy reading about female characters that are highly educated and have a mind of their own; the dialogue is usually wittier. I read it from start to finish in one sitting and I would recommend the book anytime.

Summary: Fantastic! Just what we've been waiting for from Ms. Joyce!
Review: I have read every book by Ms. Joyce, also Laura Kinsale, Judith McNaught, and Virginia Henley. Of those 50-some books, this is at the TOP of the list. Carolyn is refreshing and wonderfully strong willed, ready to take any dare for the sake of intellectual discovery. Sverayov is absolutely enigmatic, powerful, and totally alluring. The contrast in their characters is wonderfully and thouroughly developed, exactly what pulls you right into the story. Their continuous stuggle between honor and passion is really quite unique and the historical scenes involved are thrilling. I read it in 4 days, and immediately read it over again!

Summary: Stimulated my imagination with every turn of the page!
Review: I have read numerous romantic novels and has been an avid fan of Regency Romance for years. I haven't read anything but this era for years and I am very particular about the books I read. I have read Splendor at its first printing and re-read the book just recently. I have to say that I enjoyed it more the second time around! For any reader who doesn't get taken the first time should read it again because you will get to know the characters in depth. Initially, the hero and heroine are opinionated and strong willed. This can be a turn-off for most of you but the reality is that they both have strong personalities and they were made for each other.

I enjoyed the book immensely and Brenda Joyce has finally earned her stripe with Splendor! It is sensual, sexy and hot! I recommend this book to other fans of the Regency Romance!

Summary: I enjoyed it
Review: I have read through all the reviews of this book and I find I disagree with some of them. The woman who reported that Carolyn was like a willful teenager, would be right, if Carolyn were 15! If she had done everything her father told her she would have been as weak as the other reviews suggest that she is. But she was 18 and should make decisions for herself!! And as for her weak character I also disagree, I believe that she held her own when she had to. Also who wouldn't be alittle weak after facing what looked to be an impossible situation?

But there are also things about this book that I didn't enjoy. The wife, though cruel and deceptive, was treated unfairly after the lose of her child, and then again after her death. Not two minutes passed that he learned of the lose of his child's mother, that he married again. But I suppose that is also terribly romantic for the other 2/3 of the triangle.

Over all I liked the book and would recommend reading it just to see how you feel about the points of view.
