Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Good Story Review: This book was funny and different which is not a bad combo. Temperance the heroin is funny and strong she makes the best out of her situation. James is arrogant and thick head he thinks that every single woman wants to marry him because he is the laird of the Mc Crain clan The CLan its self is so funny I recommend this book to paople who like to laugh. It didn't have many love scenes which was great for me who cares about sex anyway.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Where is the Romance? Review: If you are looking for a good romance book with lots of interaction between the hero and heroine, don't buy this book. I have no idea why Temperance even liked James. They are hardley even together in the book, and when they are they just don't seem like they should go together. If you are looking for a fun book about a woman discovering who she really is and changing herself for the better, then this book is for you. If you want real romance read "A Knight In Shining Armor." That is the sweeting romance I have ever read!!!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: For once, an ending that doesn't make me ill.. Review: I finished this book last night and was struck with surprise at its unconventional ending. I'll have to say, if you haven't read the book and don't want to know what all the controversy is about for this book, don't continue reading this review. Anyway, back to our sheep. I have read countless books which were mildly amusing throughout, with good and bad moments, but I never know until the end whether I'm going to throw it across the room in disgust. Do you have any idea what I'm talking about? I'll characterize it as follows: Woman of "strong character" falls for infuriating man. Woman is "taught a lesson" by having exceedingly proud, know-it-all run her through a series of humiliating exercises to batter her self confidence down to the point where she gladly accepts his dominance and follows him to the altar. After all, "all's fair in love and war" right? This is not a book where that happens. Temperance O'Neil may have some problems with her character, but throughout the story her intentions are always good and her results are even better (don't argue about reality, just read). It is a book with elements of self-development, but it's mainly about how someone falls in love with someone else and as an added bonus, manages to hold on to their sense in the midst of romance. Ms. Deveraux even underlines this in some very simple passages: "-she remembered herself saying to women, 'Didn't you think of that before you married him?'...The answer the women gave was always the same: 'No, I was in love and didn't think of anything past 'I do'." True, the romantic scenes in this book are not as intense or as developed as some of Ms. Deveraux's other works, but it is an interesting read with a lot of the characteristics that go into this type of story (read synopsis above, but remove the cynicism). In many ways it reminds me of the western romances (no, not the kidnapped by Indians spiel), but say, a book by Maggie Osborne, where there's a lot of personal development on the part of the female characters. Temptation probably won't make you pine after the hero, but it'll let you respect yourself in the morning.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Well I liked it! Review: I agree that there could have been more romance and character development. But I still thought it was a good book. I have not read too many of this author's books but I am not in the group that thinks she is great. I admit that I did NOT like Knight in Shining Armor. I liked The Velvet Promise but did not like Velvet Song. Perhaps I enjoyed it because my expectations were not as high as other readers.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Disappointed, but still a FAN Review: I, like so many others was disappointed in this book. I have all of Jude's books and have reread all of them. This is not one I will ever read again. I have never given one of her books so low a rating. I had know idea of what James was thinking though out the book, until the ending, which I couldn't believe. What a major disappointment. I also kept reading thinking somewhere Jude's normal style of writing was coming up soon. Did someone else write this book for her?
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Disappointed Review: I am an avid fan of Ms Deveraux. I first read a Knight in Shining Armor, then followed with every book I of hers I could get my hands on. In the last 10 years or so I've read them all and am always anxiously awaiting any new ones she may write. This one was a great disappointment. There were so many opportunities she had to enrich the characters and plot that were glazed over I just wanted to cry. James has no relationship with his "son". Though she teases us with a moment or two of interaction nothing else follows. For a man who has survived due to his racehorses isn't it a little odd that he never interacts with his stable hands? Or that when his stable hand uses one for something that has been forbidden nothing is said or done about it? The characters in the castle and the village fall flat - very one diminsional - or appear and disappear so quickly that we are left wondering where they are the rest of the time. Who are the old women who live in the castle - cooks? maids? aunts? servants? Why are they there? What do they do? As brilliant a woman as our heroine supposedly is she is awfully lacking in curiosity about why things are the way they are in her new home and awfully complacent for a "modern" woman. Somehow I can't imagine her just accepting someone else in James' life without a fight. The wrap up at the end is just that... a quick answer to all the "missing" pieces that should have been written in to the plot. There was just so much more that could have been done. Maybe Ms Deveraux had limitations set by her publishers, maybe there was a limit to the number of pages, or to the amount of time she had to write... I don't know. But if she could take this one back and rework it, finish the characters and fill out the plot, I know I would enjoy it 1000 times more. It seems I have been waiting for this book for a long time, it is sad to have it fall so short of my expectations. I KNOW she is capable of better work. What is amazing is that even with its flaws Ms Deveraux was able to draw me in and keep me turning pages - what was there was good. I just spent a lot of time hoping she would answer my questions on the next page. Unfortunately, she never did. Someone else mentioned a sequel for Ramsey... please, if you do, make it more complete than his "father's" story. I'm looking forward to The Summerhouse but I'm a little leary. Maybe the problem is Ms Deveraux has too many projects she is working on all at once - I hope not. I will probably purchase this latest book just to find out, but if it too falls flat I'll be more cautious in the future - maybe just put my name on the list at the library.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: An okay read if you have the time... Review: This book was romantic, funny, and thoroughly enjoyable... until the last chapter. The characters were smart, funny, and they actually seemed to be falling in love. But the ending completely threw me for a loop. It was so cold and abrupt. It was very disappointing, because I really did love the book up until that point. Still, if you have already read everything by Deveraux and want a new title to sit down with, I would give it a chance. You may not be as bothered by the ending as I was.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Almost, but not quite..... Review: Jude Deveraux has always been one of my favorite authors. I was slightly dissapointed in her most recent works but with this she has made great strides back to her former greatness. Almost, but not quite.....in my opinion she does her best work with historical romances and perhaps she should stick with what she does best. Although this story was of greater interest than her most recent works, I have to say that I found the ending lacking a great deal. I was happy to see Temperance and James reunite and work out their differences however a longer, more involved ending would have done their story better justice.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I loved it! Review: I loved the story of Temperance and James McCairn. I loved the changes Temperance brought to the Laird. The ending was too brief. I was disappointed in that respect. Now I would like to hear the story of Ramsey and Alys.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Temptation by Jude Deveraux You did it again Review: Thank you Ms Deveraux for doing it again. I never liked 14&15th century English romances until you made them fun. I did not think you could make the 1900's sing but you did. A romance novel where the girl gets to be a carear women,a mother and have the man falling on his knees in love with you. Hurray I hope your other stories into this era are as great.
