Summary: Loved it
Review: i loved this book, coz i love a strong independent woman and james Mc Cairn too he was strong a little rough on the edges but really great and he answered one of the questions i have always wondered" what do the scotsmen have under their kilts" i thought it was a a great book, alot of fun in it too.Ms Deveraux really knows how to bring a story alive.

Summary: Not really Romance
Review: I have to agree with those who said that this wasn't really a romance story. There was really very LITTLE romance in this. I felt the story was more about Temperance figuring herself out and her place in life, and helping others in the proccess. I really felt like the hero was more of a supporting character than a main one. I thought this could have been a superb book if it went into more detail with her and interaction with the town and if the ending was a little different. I see great potential if the focus isn't on the romance, but such isn't the case, unfortunately.

Summary: Better than some
Review: I got hooked on Deveraux books when I was in college. I read all her early books and loved them all. Then she started writing books where the main characters play silly little games to get their man. That bored and annoyed me. So, I quit reading her books for awhile. Since I liked her books so much in the beginning, I decided to give her another chance. Temptation was well written with a strong main character. It was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to any romance reader.

Summary: A Cross between Romance and Mainstream Novel
Review: Jude Deveraux is my favorite author and this is a pretty good book. A lot of people who criticize this book seem to be doing so b/c they were expecting to see the same thing they've been seeing. Some very famous authors I won't mention comply to such readers' wishes and produce the exactly same books over and over again.

I like Ms. Deveraux b/c she's always willing to try something different. Unlike most people who've written here, I really enjoyed and admired her recent works. For example, An Angel for Emily was very unique. It had many revolutionary elements, but people who couldn't understand things beyond their five senses didn't understand the book at all and criticized her mercilessly. *sigh*

I didn't enjoy this book as much as Angel for Emily, but people who criticize the ending of this book and the timing of the ending, etc., don't seem to really understand Temperance's character. They seem to want the old, boring and typical fairy resolution that doesn't incorporate the inner-workings of this particular character.

I say it's a cross between romance and mainstream novel b/c what Temperance goes through to finally join with James is much more realistic than what you would see in a typical formular romance. If you've been in love, wouldn't you say that the reality is much more rockier than what's in a typical fairy tale? To me, this book is more realistic b/c Temperance goes through so many heartaches, disappointments, jealousy, etc.

I agree with some of you that James doesn't seem to be that romantic or interesting. However, we all fall in love with people who are not stella nice, romantic or interesting. So, maybe even that is more realistic here than in a typical romance.

Anyway, I really want to applaud Ms. Deveraux for producing a more-realistic and unique book that has a definite positive theme and message than just whipping out a formula book based on hot lust and romance only.

I really liked the ending. (Spoiler) She knew who she was, what she wanted (ultimately) and didn't fall blindly into the "temptation" of marriage just b/c she was in love. I think it's a book with multiple important messages that we should all keep in mind, especially if you are the type who is likely to fall into the "temptation" of marriage at the first opportunity.

Summary: Have to agree with Barbara Walker
Review: in some areas. I also said "HUH?" when I came to the epilogue. Too much time had elapsed to make it "real". Loved Temperence, though. Enjoyed it overall, but not a keeper.

Summary: Could do better with the character development
Review: If you are looking for an afternoon light reading, this can be a choice. It is the usual standard of Ms Deveraux : Stubborn heros with strong-minded females with some enjoyable dialogues. Anyway, could always do better with character development.

Summary: Temptation is irresistibly enchanting
Review: Temptation is another classic romance from Jude Deveraux with her irresistible fusion of history, characterization and romance. The protagonist in this novel is Temperance O' Neil and she is a staunch defender of woman's rights and independence in New York, 1909, settling unemployed and female destitutes on the streets. But her work becomes interrupted when Angus, her new stepfather threatens to disinherit her unless she goes to MaCairn estate in Scotland to help James McCairn find a new bride.

Ms. Deveraux deftly creates two characters who are obstinate and hindered by their pride - James believes that Temperance is sent here as a match for him; only to find she vindicates that she is a housekeeper. Temperance puts her strength to good use - helping the people in McCairn to reestablish their estate and finds herself attached to the simple people here. She used to do good partly because of celebrity but now upon seeing a snob replacing her job in New York, she is tenacious about serving good and changing her attitude. She falls in love with James - but their fragile relationship is festered by pride when James calls for his childhood sweetheart Kenna, with the hidden purpose of finding his grandmother's treasure.

Temptation is what you hope for in a romance novel - the bittersweet ending, forgiveness, acceptance and hilarious antics and dialogues that make it a rejuvenating read. It is sweet temptation that will set your heart aflutter and sing with triumph for both tortured souls who eventually find true love.

Summary: Fun read
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It's not anything that will change your life, but for a few hours you will be able to get away from whatever you need getting away from.

Nope, it's not great literature. But it is fun and the characters entertaining. From this type of book, what more could you ask? Jude Deveraux's books are always cute, and sometimes very moving. This one is cute, and recommended.

Summary: I Thought I was Watching a Movie
Review: Temptation was so good It felt like I was watching a movie. I loved all the people. The story was funny, sad, exciting, sad, and eventful. Ha Ha eventful. I loved it. Thanks Jude

Summary: WASTE OF TIME
Review: This book is a mixed up bunch of trash. Very poor character development, trite situations (uh oh, she fainted, must be pregnant) and worst of all riddled with mistakes. Maybe I am a nit picker but if someone DROWNS they do not have a DEATHBED. DUH. I also have serious doubts about being able to travel from NY to England by ship in 1909 in only 4 days. Does the word EDITOR mean anything to the publisher? I kept wondering if, accidentally, a VERY rough draft had been published. I abhorr books that WASTE MY TIME and I shall not read another by Ms. Deveraux. I will also think twice about purchasing from this publisher again.
