Review: "With Song" is another wonderful story by Dorothy Garlock. I had to read the book in one sitting, I could not put it down and I find myself still thinking about the characters. Other books that I would also recommend by Dorothy Garlock are "Forever Victoria", Love and Cherish" and "Sweetwater".

Review: Dorothy Garlock goes the extra mile to ensure her books are historically accurate, capturing the flavor of the time period, perfectly defining her characters--even by their thoughts and words. Her books are gritty, but so were some of the people during the time periods she writes about. If you read this book with a 90's sensibility, you are not only doing yourself an injustice, but the author as well. A good author should not rewrite history or have the characters talking like they live in this generation. Yes, Dorothy Garlock's books are gritty, and some scenes and words make me wince, but I appreciate an author who doesn't walk on eggshells to make her characters perfect little people; and in the case of WITH SONG, people who were politically correct in a time period that wasn't!

Review: I am a big fan of Dorothy Garlock's books but when I first picked this one up I was a bit dubious about it being set in the '30's. I'm very glad I went ahead and bought it. It a wonderful very moving story with characters that seem like they could just step out of the page.Highly recommended. just a hint "Ribbon in the sky" by Dorothy Garlock is actually the first in the series being about Hod's older brother Mike Dolan.

Although he started off by putting her in danger, his character was the one who I felt who was most reflective of the words "love is patient..." i.e, the most unselfish.

Summary: An Exciting, Entertaining, Very Real Story of the 1930's
Review: I have just started reading Dorothy Garlock. I have found her one of the most knowledgable authors in the Depression era. I think we need more books about the hard times that people had to endure during that period. There are too many young people today that do not have a clue what it was like to have to work for a living. I now appreciate what my mother and father had to go through. I grew up in Kansas also, and this book made every thing seem so real. Thanks heavens for people who bring real life into their stories so we all can learn some history. I can't wait for With Heart, in October 99' I am looking forward to getting on with The Dolan's and how they make out.

The wonderful Johnny is seen again in the second of this series of stories.... and let me tell you, I'm anxious to get to the third and fourth book of this series, where he is the main hero!!!!Ms. Garlock is a gifted storyteller, and never fails to provide us with the best clan of characters ever!! This is the second Dorothy Garlock book that I've read, and I'm anxious to read everything she has done now!!! You will too... enjoy!

Review: This was the second book I'd read of Garlock. I couldn't wait to read all three in this triology (which has been so popular a fourth book is shortly to be published). I have since read many of her "western" based novels, but prefer this triology of the Great Depression years . Not much has been written about this time, and it was nice to see Garlock move into a new time on the American Frontier.
