Rating: Summary: An eye-opening, excellent debut novel! Review: Six Days In January is an excellent novel that explores a man's heart. It's the best book I've read in years. I just feel bad, that you'll never see this on cinema, because it tells way too much truth. Some may think of William McCall as pitiful, but I understand his pain, because women normally tell this story. I asked myself constantly "DO MEN FEEL LIKE THIS?"
They Do. And I only hope that our women can see through their anger to recognize this. This is a great story that I hope gets its just due.
Rating: Summary: The book of the year ! Review: Six days in January is an excellent novel. I never knew men felt this way. I always assumed they never felt the things we felt. This book shows me that, and then some. I felt so many things for William that he drove me crazy. I cried so much, got aroused from reading the sex scenes and made me think about my own mistakes in love. I wanted to kill him for going back to Andrea, but can you blame him after all those lousy dates and moments that tested his manhood? Love it or hate it, this book made many valid points. Me, I happened to love it. This is a great book for book club discussion. Hurry up with the sequel!!
Rating: Summary: Unforgettable Read With A Twist Review: Six Days in January is an eye-opening read that lets readers into a black man's mind and allows us to feel what he feels regarding his emotions and his women. This is a side of Black men you probably will never see, or that they will deny exists, but there are too many men being raised by single mothers and we all know that a women can't teach a man how to be a man.The main character William is a fool for love but for all the right reasons. He is the good guy that women look over because they want a "thug" or someone with a high paycheck. Throughout this book William never changed, he never changed who he was for any woman nor did he apologize for the way he felt or the way he expressed his emotions. As I read this book I wondered why more men don't express themselves in the same way. Then on page 149 I found my answer, " We don't talk about our pain to other men because we don't want to appear weak. ... We are all so pigheaded and egotistical that we are willing to continue down the same dead end of emotional dysfunction just to save face..." This is an unforgettable book that I think more men should read especially those who are single, it would give them a little more insight into male-female relationships before they become committed in marriage. Rating: Summary: Did I miss something? Review: This book started off slow. I tried to finish this book, but the author kept focusing on the same thing. This book had no story content and was VERY predictable. I am pretty much a good judge at pageturners, this one wasn't even close. I read three chapters and headed back to the bookstore with it. I would not recommend it.
Rating: Summary: A Classic Novel & Must Read Review: This book will make you cry..... It will also make U wanna strangle William McCall, but this is a must read. Rating: Summary: The book of the year ! Review: This is an incredible story! Actually, this is a story that should have been told years ago. For the very first time, we see behind the exterior of a man and come to realize that our men have feelings too. A lot of of women don't want to accept this type of story (A reviewer asked if she missed something - GIRL, YOU MISSED TOO MUCH.) because of our pain. Six days in January is a MUST READ for woman that has experienced roller coaster love. Whether you understand it is entirely contingent on how open their minds and hearts are. And what writing style they are accustomed to. This is not the fluff that's found in many novels; Because of the intelligent style of which the story is told, some might find it boring - Just like the MEN WE PASS OVER IN FAVOR OF THE ONES THAT TEAR OUR HEARTS IN TWO. The irony of this tale is that it goes deep inside of a scarred man. I found myself angry at the shortcomings of William McCall, aroused for the brilliantly woven, tasteful love scenes and in tears during powerful scenes with both mother and father, as well as his love for Andrea. I hated her for being the undeserved chosen one! As you can see, the book touched every nerve in my body. It's up there with Waiting To Exhale, and I want to say (though many may disagree) that it is one of the most important books ever written by our men concerning THEIR hearts. It has classic potential! Ladies, in my opinion this is the man we have been looking for our whole lives; a flawed man that wants love.
Rating: Summary: Ok at Best Review: This isn't a normaly a book I would usually pick up but I had to read it for my book club. I didn't have a problem with the story but how the story was told. I thought that William was pretty silly and naive and got taken advantage of. The ending was anticlimatic. I fel there should of been more of confrontation. Also the book is a bit misleading it makes you think that its about a black man involve in many relationships but really he only touches on the "many" relationships he had. He thoroughly goes through one relationship and we are only left shaking our heads. I got tired of the reference to music. Sure I am big fan of R &B but this is a book not a screen play-it seemed as if every other paragraph was a reference to a song. To be honest i think that it will make a better screenplay than a book (if you are a big fan of films like the brothers and brown sugar)-solely judging on its literary style-sure there are profound moments in 6 days but I think that this author needs to get into each of his characters and his style of writing. I wished he delved more into Andrea's personality-I didn't understand her pathologies-if you are the reader your judgement of her is so simplistic. I would like to know why she was the way that she was. All in all 6 days was better than I anticipated. I struggled through the first 50 pages and than it turned out to be a very interesting story.
Rating: Summary: Thank you for writing this story..... Review: This was one story that was never predictable. As a reader I was more involved with the characters lives than what was going to happen next. I could relate to every character in the book like they were either a friend, sibling, relative or stranger. This book brought to life the struggles of dating from you teen years well into adulthood. It was not only a discovery for a man but also for a woman. Thank you for writing this story that so many of us have lived. Peace and blessings.
