Review: ...kind of stupid.

First of all, why are all the characters stereotypes? I find it offensive that the only "normal" people are WASPs. We have the insane fat girl, the obsessed native american, and the sinister Asians...and I'm only half way through the book.

Also, this author needs to study up on her survival training. Other than a plot point to move the romance along, why would the "hero" tell the "heroine" to strip buck naked and stretch out on the rocks in the sun to dry off. (Chivalrously warning her about snakes etc. first). Ummm...wouldn't she dry off just as well with at least her underwear on? And be a lot more comfortable "lounging" on the rocks? Plus it's probably not that warm since this is supposedly in Washington state. And what about mosquitos? Hello? Surely I'm not the only one who notices these things!

Also, since gasoline floats (I think), couldn't they just strain off the top of the lake water?

So, be warned. This book is okay, but you will need to "check your brain at the door." My suggestion is don't buy it, borrow it from the library.

Review: Claire is searching for answers as to why her beloved husband Keith would commit suicide, convinced he wouldn't do such a thing. Yet while she's investigating the death of the husband she loves/loved so much, she falls for Sheriff Nick in less than 3 weeks. No grieving widow I know would be swayed so quickly, which makes the plot unbelievable. The story is choppy & forced & the writer provides no real background for the characters, making it hard to cheer them on. Don't buy if you want to read - get it from the library.

Review: Karen Harper's tale of "The Falls" depicted a fearless heroine, romantic suspense and descriptive settings for this fast paced story. Hard to put down till the end and I'll be looking forward to her next one!

Summary: steadily suspenseful
Review: This book did carry me along throughout the story. At first you are only curious and have certain questions, then the story seems to shift and becomes a little more intriguing. By the climax, you are rivited to the pages and waiting for the outcome. It is filled with twists, and although not as wowing as some books I have read. It is still a fairly good read.
The only thing that bothered me was that they listed the book as a romantic suspense. Yes it did have an attraction element that developed into feelings, but not the true romance of it, but then the woman's husband had only just died. It is hard to imagine starting off fresh in such a short amount of time, but as a reader I did feel the pull between Claire and Nick. All and all, it was not bad.

Review: This book was pretty disappointing. Mrs. Harper had a tendency of repeating information pertaining to the characters in the novel almost word for word every few chapters. It felt as if she wanted to be sure that even the basest of readers would internalize certain facts and never forget them. In addition, while the book appears to be fictional, at the very end of the novel she begins to refer to the crisis of September 11th. This really detracted from the story. Instead of making the work become more alive by tieing it into modern day occurences she widened the gap between a badly writen novel and real life events. To all those considering reading this book it is highly probable that you will be able to locate a better read that at the end you wont feel like the hours you spent reading the book were a waste.

Review: This story was a bit much. I had obvious Dee Dee figured out way before they did. Clumsy Claire just kept falling into trouble so Hero Nick could race to the rescue. And what a lame ending!. Why did it take a year after all the tragic events to get around to taking down the bridge? And our star crossed lovers still weren't married? I wonder if anyone has tested silk ties to see how much weight they will support tossed over a rough steel girder of a bridge? This story started out pretty good, mystery and an attraction between two people, but it fell apart somewhere 1/2 way through. I was just skimming through the pages at the end untill it was somewhat tied up and explained. The author tried a little too hard to weave every thing in to one story and it was not very cohesive. Even absent dad rallied at the end in spite of his constant dialysis treatments.
