Summary: Connie Mason NEVER Disappoints!
Review: Betrayed by the sister of the woman he loved, Drake has spent years hardening his heart against women like Raven of Chirk. But now, known far and wide as The Black Knight, Drake has returned to Castle Chirk to compete in a tournament. Little did he know the tournament was in honor of the impending wedding of Raven and Drake's half-brother, Waldo.

Still burning from Raven's childhood betrayal, Drake refuses to help Raven escape her unwanted marriage to Waldo. But Drake's revenge upon Waldo puts him and Raven on the run together. As the danger grows, so too does their passion. Can Drake risk his heart to the woman who betrayed him all those years ago? How could Drake possibly have a future with Raven when she is legally wed to another man? And will Drake and Raven live long enough to see the face of their unborn child?

Connie Mason's "The Black Knight" is one terrific read! Her characters are richly drawn with real motivations and weaknesses and her writing is captivating. "The Black Knight" is worth staying up all night to read! One for the keeper shelf.

Summary: Terrific from start to finish!
Review: Drake and Raven are friends as kids, but he believes she has betrayed him. He leaves the castle vowing to hate her forever.

As an adult, Drake has beat the odds. Although he is believed to be a "bastard", his bravery and skill on the battlefield have earned him knighthood and an earldom from King Edward. He joins in a tournament that is being held in celebration of a marriage. He is surprised to find that the marriage will be between Raven and his own half- brother. Seeking revenge upon both, he steals Raven's virtue and flees with her on her wedding night. His biggest dilemma then becomes: What is he going to do with her now? He can't leave her alone to face the brutal punishment of his half- brother. He vows to keep her safe from harm.

Scrumptious love scenes and true love follow. Drake faces losing his castle and all he owns to keep Raven hidden. He gives up his own freedom to his half- brother, in return for his brother's promise to spare a friend's life. When Raven learns that Drake is being held and tortured in a dungeon, she turns herself over to their enemy for Drake's sake. Raven is locked away in the castle. Now they are both prisoners of Blake's half- brother. Blake must find a way to save them both.

This is a story with everything: exciting sword battles, thrilling tournament scenes, steamy love scenes and romance, mystery, vivid characters and scenery, heart-break and triumph.

I couldn't stop turning the pages to see what was next. A complete package. I have read a lot of Connie's books, and this is one of her best. Connie is the queen of castle romances.

Summary: A great romantic adventure!
Review: Drake is a man betrayed by his love's sister, Raven of Chrik. Many years go by and Drake comes back now know as the Black Knight, no name, belongs nowhere. He comes to castle Chrik to compete in a tourney, never imagining a wedding is about to take place between his two most hated enemies, Raven and Waldo.

Raven hates Waldo and is desperate to escape the unwanted marriage. She is still in love with a man known long a go as Drake. A misunderstanding has Drake hating Raven and she knows it. When the Black Knight shows up at the castle, she begs for his help to escape the bonds of marriage with the evil Waldo of Eyre. Black Knight refuses her, but a twist of Fate has them on the run together and she now realizes that the Black Knight is much different than the love she knew so long ago as Drake. Can Drake see past the misunderstanding and see Raven's love? Or will he turn her over to Waldo to face an uncertain future... I absolutely LOVED this story. It is filled with romance, danger, intrigue and history. Drake is a real knight in shining armor that every woman dreams of having. All of Connie Mason's books are excellent and this one is no exception...

Summary: Now here is an exciting story!
Review: Drake was ten years old when his mother died. He was living with his Granny when his father, a knight, came to fetch him to Eyre. Granny had told Drake his parents had legally wed before his birth and would give him the proof when the time was right. But his father had come to take him to Eyre where Drake's younger, half-brother, Waldo, was named as the legitimate heir. Drake grew up labeled a bastard. He vowed to someday be a knight, despite his label.

Raven had loved Drake ever since she reached puberty. But Drake only had eyes for her sister, Daria. Daria betrays his love for her, but Raven is thought to blame. For several more reasons (which I cannot divulge or it would ruin the story for you. Sorry.) Drake is banished. He becomes the King's champion and once he has land and title, he finds the chance for a bit of revenge against Waldo An exciting story of honor, courage, and love as only Connie Mason can write! She will get many new fans with this one! I foresee many awards! Very highly recommended reading!

Summary: Don't waste your time
Review: I guess you will just have to call me a non Connie Mason fan. I have read a few of her books and have found them to be very mainstream, book-factory type stories. The characters are cardboard (flat and uninteresting, with very little depth) and the story could have been churned out by anyone. Popular writers who turn out numerous books a year, do not usually impress me. Drake and Raven (what is it with the bird monikers anyway?) live in a time where travel was difficult, communication sparse, and labor rare. The plague had wiped out a good portion of the country so I find it hard to believe the Black Knight would have found so many people to populate his keep and so quickly. How did he manage to rebuild the walls in a month or two anyway? They quarried, transported, lifted and finished a wall (or even a portion of it) that quickly? I think it would have taken years not months or weeks to accomplish these feats. Stone buildings and churches took years and decades to erect, granted this is just a wall, but still, it could never have happened.

Basic facets of life, which make a plot interesting were also missing. What was life in the 14th century like? Did not the typical noble family participate in church masses regularly (at least once daily, if not more often)? Wasn't England in a constant state of war with France, The Hundred Years War, instigated by Edward himself? Neither Drake, nor Duff, nor Waldo would have been around England much, especially with Drake being the Prince's champion. In a time when people were married and started having children at 13 or 14, Raven would never have made it to 24 being unwed and if she did, no one would want her being so far past child baring years (or at least how they thought of women then).

The only thing that could be redeeming in this story would be the plot. Unfortunately, that is not done well either. The plot was simplistic, with no surprises or interesting twists or turns. We know exactly where Raven stands in her feelings for Drake and she suffers from the typical he-hasn't-said-he-loves-me-so-I-am-leaving theme. What's the deal with Drake's father anyway, what a wimp! He knows that Drake is his heir, why foster him as a lowly squire? At least give him the opportunity to become a knight if you are not going to recognize him. I didn't quite get the logic behind that portion of the story. I would have to say, over all, don't waste your money on this story, borrow it from a friend, take it out of the library, or don't read it.

Summary: Very Entertaining
Review: I loved this book and i hope to read many more by Connie Mason. It is the tale of Drake and Raven. Drake thought he was betrayed by the younger sister of the girl he loved and has hardened himself against all women during the twelve years afterwords. When he returns to Chirk, the place he had grown up after the death of his mother, he comes face to face with Raven, the woman who he beleives betrayed him 12 year before. Can Raven melt the ice around his heart? Read the book and find out for this book is guaranteed to please. Drake is everything a woman could want- a knight in shining armor. Who doesn't want one of those! He really turns out to be a good person who is worth loving. Raven was spunky and resourcefull and was not one of those whiney heroines that i dislike. These two made such a great pair. I recommend this book highly and wish you happy reading!

Summary: A great romantic adventure!
Review: I thought this book was a nice, relaxing read. It is about Drake, a young boy who falls in love with a young game-playing girl whose younger sister, Raven, is secretly in love with him. He plans to elope with Raven's sister, but the girl's father finds out and stops them from eloping. Drake blames Raven, ignoring her pleas of innocence and he is banned from the town. 12 years later, he is back, as a powerful knight, ready to fight for money. And that is where he finds Raven, all grown up and beautiful, betrothed to his hateful and viscious enemy. I cannot tell you anything else. I thought this book was an adventurous read, once in awhile causing you to hold your breath. The chracters are radiant, even the loyal friends of Drake light up the pages. This was my first Connie Mason book, and I was not disappointed.

Review: I thought this was a great story....but it was so much like Connie's "Lord of the Night" I was a little disappointed. Plots very much the same. Good guy, bad guy, damsel in distress. Lots about virinity and losing it. I think it is well worth the read but not right after you read "Lord of the Night". I really enjoyed Connie's "The Rogue and the Hellion". I plan on reading most of her entire collection. I really like the way she has steamy "love" scenes and gives location and time of setting right in the beginning of her books. Connie-if you read this please do more midevals!
Thanks,
Ali

Summary: It is Ok... Mason could have done better
Review: It was a good book I suppouse, I found it a bit odd though how Drake seemed to forgive her so easily for "Destroying his dreams with Daria" and then after that Raven wrote a letter so that he wouldn't follow her when they became lovers so that Waldo wouldn't hurt him, he found it and was angered... but then about 7 pages later things are back to normal...

Summary: Riveting
Review: Loved it. Lots of steamy scenes.

I would have enjoyed a little more humor
though, the whole story was quite dark.

I know CM writes in various periods/settings, but
I only look forward to reading more of her Medievals.
So much to read - Too little time.
