We would actually agrue about who's turn it was to read. Of all the books I've ever read, this one stands out in my mind most. I followed Steve and Ginny on every saga of their life and cried when they did and laughed with them. And that was 22 years ago!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great adventure Review: I read this book when I was 14 or 15 and absolutely fell in love with Ginny and Steve - yes, it is a bit of an unbelievable relationship, but so what, most movies have unbelievable relationships as well. It was a pleasant surprise seeing it re-released since I had tried to special order it last March and couldn't get it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Review From Someone who Read it When it was Published Review: I read this novel right when it first came out. I am purchasing it again, as it has been many years, and I want to check back in with Ginny & Steve before reading about their daughter, Laura. I can completely understand why this is used as college text for literary classics, as this book was, at the time, one of a kind, and then became the model for other novelists. True, '90's women might take this book in a negative manner, but if you remember that it is fiction, and that each of us have our own ideas concerning sexual fantasies, you'll enjoy the book for what it is; an entertaining story, not a promotional writing for "seductive rape", as some might opine.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The first HOT historical romance and not PC Review: I'm going to date myself. I first read Sweet Savage Love when it was first published in approx. 1972. The times were a changin, things in the story acceptable then are out of favor now. So when you read this treasure of a story please keep this in mind. That being said, Steve and Ginny are a couple that are survivors in every sense of the word. Individually they are put through the tortures' of the damned. They meet and part meet and part and finally meet at the end. In each meeting they come to care for the other a little more and more each time. They are being made stronger as individuals and the fabric of their love is being woven with steel fibers and not cotton that will tear under adversity or weaken and rot over time. They can finally overcome their mutual pride and admit they love each other in the end. I've explained this simply, but the story is not, it is rich and complex. Believe me when it was first published it was a very hot historical romance. Start with this first Steve and Ginny story and be sure to read the others in the series. They hold up over time, but they are not twenty-first century PC. If your sensibilities need modern PC to enjoy a story--look elsewhere.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A different kind of "romance" novel Review: Like a lot of readers who've read this book, I also think the title is misleading. Perhaps this is the reason that I was taken aback by some of the more lurid plot. This would've been a better book if the author had spared Steve and Ginny, not to mention the readers, just a few of the numerous ghastly events that befall them. It's similar to what soap opera characters go through. So, if you enjoy watching soap operas and are not squeamish, then you would find this book "a juicy good read." One thing to be said for the book is that it leaves a strong impression, for better or for worse. After finishing this one, I couldn't wait to read the two sequels mainly because I had a morbid curiosity to see what other tortures the author would inflict upon Steve and Ginny. I was not disappointed! In conclusion, I think the book is certainly "savage" enough, but there is barely any "love".
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: I was horrified and disgusted by this book. Review: Maybe I didn't read the same book as everyone else, who only comment on the heroine being raped by her lover. She is also forced to have sex with a man she despises to save her lover and is then gang raped. If that's your kind of thing, then you will love this book, but I imagine most people read and hear enough about rape in the news not to feel inclined to pay for it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A classic of the genre Review: One of the first and best romance novels I ever read. Few writers today can depict the remarkable intensity between the lovers as this author can. Their story lingers with the reader long after the novel ends.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: don't spend your money Review: Read it if you can find it at the public library, otherwise, don't waste your money. I borrowed this one from a friend and remembered why I don't read this author. I like to read ROMANCE. That indicates that the main characters fall in love. Maybe not at first, but at some point. For this author the hero and heroine don't have any reason to like each other (and don't!) until the end. Then all of a sudden they have been in love the whole time. Ghee, I wonder where men got the idea that every womans fantasy is to be raped? And don't give me any of that "she paved the way for other authors" I was reading romance in the 70's and there is only, maybe, one other writer who puts her characters through such a torturous, unrealistic plots. There were plenty of other writers putting out very steamy *love* stories that you wanted to read over and over. This author is in a class all her own and she can have it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Dazzling and Unforgettable... Review: Rosemary Rogers' clear, precise writing style is a pleasure to approach in this stunning romance novel, full of adventure and passion. I just love Ginny, she belongs in the pantheon of fictional goddesses alongside Scarlett O'Hara -- so feisty, sexy, and FUNNY! I just adored her...this book is one that will leave you breathless, not just for the steamy scenes between Steve and Ginny, but also the historical intrigue that envelops them...a treat not to be missed. I am telling all my friends about this great book --- my 2004 summertime read!!!!!
