Rating: Summary: Sexy, fun and entertaining! A great steamy read! Review: Susan Johnson's "Wicked" is a sexy, steamy romance bettween two engaging charecters. The everlasting story of a woman, changing a "bad boy" to a marrying man, without actually changing what we love about the bad in him. Set in the year 1800 and during the war with Napolean, the story is wonderful in its accuracy of the period. The 'hero', Beau St. Jules is a sexy rogue, known for the swathe he has cut through the female masses without ever having risked his heart. Serena Blythe is a well born young lady of reduced circumsatnces who, after having been a servant, decides to escape. She stowes away on the yacht of St. Jules when her ship leaves with all her things. After a red hot relationship aboard ship, they both plan to part and go their seperate ways. Through battles and missions to relay war information, their story has Serena's life in danger and the infamous Beau, Earl of Rochefort loosing his heart.

Rating: Summary: too Hot, no Plot Review: This book should not be classified as a romance, If there was a romantic plot I wasn't able to detect it. This novel should be classified as an adult book, with it's explicit language and crude situations. This books setting was supposed to be set in the 1800's, yet the only way you could tell that is the fact that the females wore long flowing gowns and went to tailors. Nothing else in this novel could show that this was a historical romance. The characters were un-believable. The female, Sarina, was rather easy, weak and pathetic. She seemed to whine the whole way through the entire novel, or giving it up without a fight. The man, Beau, was domeneering and annoying. And a male pig. There was no chemistry between them unless it was in the bed room. and there it seemed to crude and vulger. The relationship was too weak to believe. This book was by far the worst romance novel(if you could call it that) that I have ever read in my entire life. If you want to read a good romance, with a good plot, and believable characters, try Susan ELizabeth Phillips or Linda Howard, not Susan Johnson. This book was not worth the money that I paid for it. Save your money, you could buy a book just like this at an adult fantasy store for 1.25$.
Rating: Summary: Horrible Review: This book was a large disapointment. There was no time for the charachters to develop any sexual tension before they were in bed together. They never had any time (although the book is quite long) to develop into real characters either. Save your money and your time. Buy something else.
Rating: Summary: Definitely not romance. Review: This book was definitely not a romance. It was just crude sex throughout the book. I was really disappointed. Serena was quick to jump into bed with St. Jules and it was just pathetic. She left her former employer because the son wanted to seduce her.So basically she becomes a stowaway only play cards with the captain for one night then jump into the bed with him. Makes no sense and I was highly disappointed. If you are searching for a good romance this isn't it. If you want erotic sense poorly written buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Not that wicked Review: This was a boring one. Oh yes, there was a LOT of sex. The sex scenes were frequent, meaning one scene per chapter. However, the scenes were short and after awhile got kind of boring. The characters and plot seemed fake and unreal. For instance, I don't understand why Serena wanted Beau. Why the heck they like each other? Because they sure get into bed pretty fast and often. There was some attempt to make a real plot with the addition of Napoleon, but I couldn't quite get it and it seemed incongruous. But it's really boring because all Serena and Beau seem to do is pig out and have sex, at the same time. Like other common female characters, Serena is big-breasted and can play cards really well. Honestly,. Can't romance writers think of more unique qualities, instead? However, the majority of this book has too much sex AND food, at the same time. It's like a bad imitation of Gone With the Wind. All that eating rich foods while getting screwed at the same time left me feeling motion-sick. But hey, I'll admit my heart started racing and kind of cringed when Beau said something like, "I want to fill you up with so much sperm" all to get her pregnant. I'm not really into the younger man. Beau is 22, and Serena is 23. But if young hormone-driven lovers are your thing, then go for it! However, if you want some escapist literature, I would not recommend this. The lack of structure left me feeling arrogant, thinking I could write better. The other flaws are also too annoying to provide any type of escape. I've read review of Susan Johnson's books, especially how much they complained about gratuitous sex. I don't think this is one of her dirtier ones. The boring sex scenes should make this one CLEAN.
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: This was a good read. I liked it alot. I think some take romance novels too seriously. If they're fun, sexy and keep you turning pages...What more do you want? That's all that really matters, that you enjoy it. That, for a short while you can be swept away by a sweet or exciting story and wish you were the girl in the hero's arms. I like 'em, funny, sexy and exciting like my newest favorite "Anything, my Love" by Cynthia Simmons. A sizzling page turner with a hero to die for. Real romance lovers would adore both books. You looking for something else, Try SHAKESPEARE.

Rating: Summary: Not Hot, No Plot! Review: This was not a romance novel and in my opinion it was not hot. I personally like stories that are sensual and erotic. This story didn't try to develop any type of a bond or relationship between the characters. I think it is easy to write a story that consist of nothing but crude sexual encounters and explicit language. It takes real talent to weave a plot and story with depth and substance as well as romance and senuality. This was the 1st and probably the last Susan Johnson book I will ever read. I expect more than this in a ROMANCE novel. If you want to read an erotic story that is not a glorified porno I recommend "PURE TEMPTATION" by Connie Mason.
Rating: Summary: Hot Without Plot Review: This was one of the most unromatic Romance novels I've ever read. It was very hot, very erotic, but the characters were unbelievable and unlikable, and the paper thin plot full of unmotivated decisions.
There were good things here: The historical research was obviously thorough, but it was an odd mix with what was essentially an erotic novel, despite its being marketed as a Historical Romance. Johnson's voice and prose was very good. Certainly, it is evocative. The sex scenes were extremely hot and the prose was nicely emotional. So much so that the raw word choices in describing anatomy and acts was very intrusive in what was supposed to be a Historical Romance, or at least a love story.
There is more that is bad: The plot is almost non-existant. The two main characters make decisions without much rhyme or reason, and change their minds without any kind of justification.
The characters were unlikeable and unbelievable. The hero, who at the tender age of 22 has apparently slept with every woman in England, Italy, and Naples, objectifies women in an apalling way. I thought perhaps he'd change as his feelings for the heroine developed, but he's basically doing the same thing right up to his last minute unmotivated
"epiphany". The heroine is completely unmemorable except in her whining jealousy and utter capitulation to the hero in every matter. She's inconsistant, as well, accepting money from the hero, but not gifts (though she accepts those after token objection as well), sniping jealously, then saying she's not jealous. And why she loves this misogynistic phillanderer is a mystery.
This was obviously not the Johnson book to start with. There was more believable affection between the hero's parents in two scenes than all of the (many) sex scenes between the main characters. Perhaps this is a good author, but a bad book.
I would split the five in the author's favor at give it a 3, but the hero's treatment of the heroine (and all women) gets it a 2.
