Rating: Summary: Feisty characters Review: Georgiana Escott has one night to find a man to ruin her in order to avoid marriage to the old and despicable Lord Harris her Uncle Phinas has arranged a marriage with for her. Knowing she will be subjected to a test to confirm her virginity Georgiana doesn't have much time. She decides to attend the Cyprian's ball where England's most notable rogues are sure to attend. Here Georgie meets the dashing Lord Colin Danvers, who has just been dishonorly charged from his station. Though resistant at first Colin, eventually succumbs to Georgie's aggressive advances. The next morning Colin finds Georgiana gone... Finding out that her guardian and Lord Danvers is one and the same, makes the reunion of the stormy lovers filled with animosity and suspicion. Finding themselves on the same ship with Georginna's baby in tow, their reunion is stormy. Colin suspects Georgiana of being a French spy. Georgina resents Colin for being the mastermind behind her marriage betrothal to Lord Phineas. Their wonderful night of passion remains in their minds however and they find themselves drawn to each other. The book actually has two parts to it, the first being quite light and erotic as the seduction comes to play and the second being more serious once they meet again. The change in Georgina from seductress in the first part to angry and resentful woman in the second part is a hard switch to accept as a reader. I would have enjoyed one or the other, as I had quickly grown quite attached to Georgina in the first section. Overall, this story is a wonderful read, and Elizabeth Boyle introduces feisty characters and an interesting plot.
Rating: Summary: engaging Regency romance Review: Her guardian whom she has never met signs the document that forces his ward Georgiana Escott to marry a vile old geezer. However, before they wed, her fiancé requires proof that he is marrying a virgin so he hires a physician to examine Georgiana. The night before her nuptial physical, Georgie visits the infamous Cyprian's Ball to insure she fails the test. Branded a traitor, former navy hero Colin Danvers is a man without a country. Needing to escape his troubles, Colin goes to the Cyprian's Ball where he meets Georgie. Both share an incredible night unaware that he is her guardian. Georgie's ploy works in terms of marrying the geriatric, but fails because she cares deeply for her one night stand lover with no hope for a future with him. ONE NIGHT OF PASSION is an engaging Regency romance that picks up steam from the moment Georgie and Colin meet at the ball. From that point on Georgie comes out of her virginity in several ways that make her into a mature individual that the audience will like. Colin is an interesting hero because his disinterest in what happens to his ward fits a person with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Though the story line depends on the coincidence of a rather petite sized world, fans will enjoy Elizabeth Boyle's entertaining historical. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: This is first book by author I read and I loved it. Review: I believe the 2 star reviewer is wrong when she states that the characters do not act in accordance to the time period. Not everyone forllowed such strict moral standards or acted missish and frail all of the time - if that was truly the case, women would not have come as far as they have. Also there were several ladies in that time period that were fighting for a more equal balance between men and women. And also, just look around today at all the different values and beliefs and many people are just naturally inclined to thumb their nose at society. I am sure that this was the case in the regency period also. In fact I have read where in real life a duke of that time period kept his wife and mistress under the same roof and even Prinnie's mistress was more accepted by the ton then his wife.
Rating: Summary: Unappealing heroine and tiresome, long scenes. Review: I didn't have great expectations for this book, having read 2 other Elizabeth Boyle books before. And the book was just what I expected: nothing great. Now I'm really sorry I bought the whole series, that will teach me not to buy several books of an author I've never read before. I did not like Georgie much, first, I think when she dressed up like a Cyprian to attend that ball, she got too much into the character, because she acted like a real doxy. Colin kept rejecting her advances and she kept offering herself shamelessly. Ok, I know she was desperate to loose her virginity to avoid an undesirable marriage, and that Colin was the best option, but really! Just the fact that she went to such an event as the Cyprians Ball by herself with the intention of loosing her virginity is a little unbelievable. She could just have refused to marry, not even a guardian could force an unwilling woman to marry. I also think the Cyprians Ball scene was way too long. It almost takes half of the book! It really got tiresome and boring after a while, it could have been compressed a little. Moving on in the book, I really did not like the way she treats Colin when they finally meet again. The fact that she finds out that he is Lord Danvers, her guardian, does not justifies all her hostility towards him, specially when he has proved to her time after time that he is an honorable and trustworthy man. The least she could have done is confront him and hear his explanation, but again, there is that absurd lack of communication that seems to be the norm in Elizabeth Boyle's books. And when I was finally warming up to her, there is that part when she discovers he was engaged to marry before meeting her that night at the Cyprians Ball, and she goes into a fit because of it. That was before he met her! It has nothing to do with her! I think she really overracted. I'm going to read "Stealing the Bride" because unfortunately I already bought it, but I'm not buying any other books by Elizabeth Boyle. Really, I've had enough!
Rating: Summary: WORST BOOK EVER! Review: I read this book in attempt to end my addiction to Bertrice Small novels, but it in now way sufficed. While the plot was somewhat interesting, the novel itself lacks necessities. There is no description and a slow pace plot, as well as weak dialogue. I personally enjoy books filled with details about what the characters look like. Here the author reveals only the features of the main characters, Georgie and Colin, and leaves you guessing for everyone else. And what she does write about these two is only a general acknowledgement of body type and hair color (and that Georgie has sable colored eyes). She also lacks any detail of the settings. While in Small's novels she often goes over board in describing setting and character's features, I much prefer that to nothing! The plot itself is slow moving with almost half the book (at least 145 of about 380 pages) is dedicated to that "one night of passion." It literally drags on forever. Did I meantion that the author is redundant and often repeats herself over and over. While I enjoyed Boyle's use of alternating third person limited narration between Colin and Georgie in the first few chapters, she quickly scraps this formula, and begins with third person omnition, giving inside thoughts of many different characters, and often changing between Colin and Georgie in the same chapter. I was at least enjoying that much. The last half of the book picks up a bit of steam, but I while I enjoyed the plot concept with the mystery of why Mr. Pymm and Mandeville look familiar to Georgie, I was very upset to discover (and this is a bit of a spoiler if you still want to read the book) that it was impossible for the reader to guess who they were when tehy had never been introduced in the story. While I was convinced Hatchcliffe was Mandeville (in which I was almost correct) I thought it very unfair for Mandeville to turn out to be someone that was never introduced.
In short while the "One Night Of Passion" has an intresting plot and well written abstract, it lacks essentials of good writing such as character development, character description, good dialogue, and little things like compound sentances. I would NOT recommend this book to anyone who thinks those things may be important in a romance novel.
Rating: Summary: I was hoping for more.... Review: I usually enjoy Elizabeth Boyle's books, but ONE NIGHT OF PASSION contains so many inconsistencies, coincidences, and unbelievable events that it detracts from the story. It's not just that the characters do not behave true to their time period, sometimes their actions make no sense at all. It seems to be too hurriedly written and not edited at all!

Rating: Summary: Energized chemistry galvanizes one night of passion Review: Subjected to an imminent marriage to the infirm Lord Harris her uncle Phineas has pre-arranged, Georgiana Escott is forced to ruin herself in order to fail the virginity test conducted by her perfidious husband-to-be. The decadent Cyprian's ball arrives timely to suit her scheme - and it is at this fateful event that she falls head over heels for the righteous Colin Danvers who is branded a nefarious traitor by the Admiralty. In a coup-de-theatrics, a brawl ensues between Colin and his arch-rivals who tried to advance on Georgiana. He rescues her and Georgie is all the more determined that Colin is the one to share a night of passion with. It is one year later when they meet with Colin embarking on his espionage mission - and the elusive Georgie bearing his child arouses his love and suspicion of working as a French spy for Bonapartes.... Elizabeth Boyle's newest romance sans intrigue bears an uncanny resemblance to the plot of her previous effort Once Tempted. It is thus fortunate that the infectious ebullience of Georgie manages to salvage the coincidence-ridden plotting. Her quick wits and Colin's chivalry make them an intelligent golden couple. One night of passion is thus a fleeting pleasure with the energized duo steering their love voyage out of the fog of deja vu.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! This is the first one I read and I loved it! Review: The only complaint I have is that in the epilogue they don't even mention the other characters and what they are up to... Hopefully we will get Kit's story after Temple's.
