JAKE
Leigh Greenwood
Leisure, Mar 1997
Following the end of the Civil War, Jake Maxwell returns to his Texas cattle ranch only to find farmers legally squatting on the land. The farmers legally confront Jake for indemnities when his cows eat their crops. Jake knows he must get his cattle to market somewhere outside the Lonestar State if he is to make a profit and save what is left of his spread.
Jake's troubles turn worse when Isabelle Davenport arrives with 8 orphans to take to the farmers for adoption. When Isabelle meets a badly battered child, she realizes the orphans would be no better than slave labor t
o the farmers. Soon, Jake, who desperately needs cowhands, offers to hire the bigger boys for a cattle drive to Santa Fe. Eventually he and Isabelle agree that Jake would take all nine kids and her on the drive. Along the way Jake and Isabelle continually argue over the children, and the cattle drive is fraught with danger. However, by the end of the trek, Jake has given the children back their pride and a new lease on life. He also gives Isabelle his love. Now all he has to do is convince his ice princess that he, the nine children, and the ranch are what she really needs, instead of an Austin teaching job.
Leigh Greenwood, author of the fantastic "Seven Brides" series, starts his latest western romance series with a tremendous first novel. JAKE is an exciting, fast-paced Reconstruction Era romance due to the eleven her
oic characters that strive throughout the pages to improve their lot. Readers will definitely want more from this great writer and will want it soon. Leigh Greenwood has another winning series in the works.

Rating: Summary: Another Great Series To Look Forward To!!! Review: After completing the "Seven Brides" series, I was anxious for more from Leigh Greenwood. "Jake" certainly is a great start to the new series. Jake and Isabelle both are stubborn enough for the attraction to surely follow. And there is continuity since the Randolph's from the "Bride's" series make a guest appearance. I hope the rest of the series is as great as this.
Rating: Summary: Great Book - Great Author!! Review: After finishing Leigh Greenwood's "Seven Brides" series, I was anxious to find more of her books. And I wasn't disappointed in "The Cowboys" series. "Jake" kept me awake and I didn't want it to finish. I can't wait until her next in the series is published

Rating: Summary: Wonderful Western Romance Books Review: After reading the Seven Bride's series by this author, I was anxious to read another book by Leigh Greenwood. The Coyboys series was just the thing! Jake is a great book. Wonderful characters that leave me only wanting to read more. These romance books are so good, it is hard to believe that the author is a man!
Rating: Summary: Loved It ,But Review: I am a big Leigh Greenwood fan and I am trying to read every book. I loved Jake of the cowboys series but I wish that the characters weren't such bigets(I know I spelled that wrong.) I know the characters don't mean to be but I felt sorry for Night Hawk. If he was all commanche,Jake and the rest would have spit in his face or killed him. I know that Indians killed pete's family but not all were guilty. Did Pete think that white people wound't think to kill his family.Besides that I loved the book.
Rating: Summary: A must read if you love historical romance Review: I am so excited. This is my first Leigh Greenwood novel and I couldn't put it down. What a treat to know that Greenwood has already written the next several of this series! Imagine my joy at discovering Greenwood has out another series - Seven Brides. I will be reading every one.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Fantastic!!!!! Review: Leigh Greenwood has done it again. I would of given a 10, but I have to wait a whole year to read about the next cowboy. I loved Ward because Greenwood brings back All of Jakes brew and throws twins Montey & Hen Randolph in for flavor. Ward you just have to love even though you want to kick him into Montana and back. Then you want to do the same to Mariea. Ward is a must read!!
Rating: Summary: Second entry in THE COWBOYS Review: Love didn't last between Marina Scott and her new husband, Dr. Ward Dillon, after his vicious mother's lies began. Ward left for the Civil War while Marina was banished from her family home. Now seven years later, Marina tracks down Ward for a divorce. She wishes to marry her deceased cousin's husband to give her son, Ward's son, a father. She also wants to protect the boy from Ramon, Ward's self-centered brother. Marina must work through feelings of betrayal and fear of loving Ward before they can reunite. Not as engrossing as JAKE, but still a good story. The ending was a bit incomplete, hinting that Ward's family is returning again to cause trouble.
