Summary: engaging contemporary romance
Review: Holly Hicks works at the New York based VIP Channel where she hopes to become a producer. Her mentor gives her an opportunity to produce a segment of Hero Week. Though she does not believe in heroes, Holly is excited until she learns she must go to Texas. She fled her home state years ago, but if she wants to do the piece assigned to her, she must go home.

Last year Secret Service Agent Calvin Griffin took a bullet protecting President Jennings from an assassination attempt. Still recuperating in his hometown of Honeycomb, Calvin does not want anymore media coverage as he feels he only did his job. Additionally, he has other problems to deal with as the bullet scraped his head, wrecking his short-term memory.

Calvin picks up Holly at the Houston Airport. They are attracted to one another, but he feels she needs a whole man. She, in turn, wants nothing to do with a good ole boy. However, love has a way of making for strange bedfellows.

This is an engaging contemporary romance starring two lead protagonists who actually need a hero though both deny such a creature exists today. The story line is fun to follow due to the antics of the lead couple. Fans will feel for Calvin, feeling diminished in many ways until Holly opens his heart. Though she ultimately learns one can go home if the right person is waiting there, Holly receives less empathy as she spends too much time in denial. Still Mary McBride shows that love makes everyone a hero.

Summary: Pretty Good Read
Review: Holly Hicks, transplanted from Texas to New York city, by way of numerous mid-west stops was finally given the chance she'd waited a lifetime for - her first shot at producing a piece for VIP television. The only problem it seemed was that the documentary was to be about real-life heroes and she'd have to go back to Texas to dig up the information she needed as well as meet up with her assignment - the man - the hero - Cal Griffin. It wasn't as if she didn't want this opportunity - but number one - she didn't 'believe' in heroes and number two - she swore she'd never go back to Texas!

Cal Griffin, his one claim to fame - he took the bullet meant to end the President of the United States life, and in the end the bullet, knocked him out of commission from a career he loved. Bad enough he had that to deal with, but now he had some snooty over-achiever female producer coming to pry into his private life, and he was expected to pick her up at the airport. Both these individuals skeptically were expecting the worst and would both find that they couldn't be more wrong as they discovered the real meaning of what a hero really was, and that dreams are better when shared.

I really enjoyed this book; the pace was not fast but comfortably lazy like a hot Texas afternoon. What was interesting was the awakening of Holly's preconceived notion of what a hero really was - not the split second decision of throwing yourself in front the man you're sworn to protect but the struggle to overcome and throw yourself back into life. Cal was about ready to throw in the towel until Holly hit town and this was an interesting aspect to have a flawed hero who showed some physical weaknesses. As a lighthearted romance - I really liked the fact that for the most part, both were honest and forthright with what they were feeling. It was a nice story - somewhat a little slow with the romantic overtures but still a pretty good read.

Summary: great hero!!
Review: Secret Service agent Cal Griffin took a bullet for the President and now he is a media hero. He is also Holly Hick's chance to become a TV producer and launch her career sky high. But Holly has to go back to her homestate of Texas, to Cal's hometown, to create the Hero Week documentary starring the hunky hero. Now a New York'er, Holly is reluctant to return to her roots but for her career, she will do what she must...even though she does not believe in heroes.
Cal Griffin is recuperating in Honeycomb, determined to return to his job. He works out relentlessly at the track daily, to get his body back into shape. He is the only one that believes he will return to his former position, then he meets Holly. Soon, Cal has more on his mind than his former job, Holly attracts danger and tweaks his libido, but will Holly come to believe in heroes?

What a special hero Cal Griffin is! He's sexy, determined, loyal, and full of passion....for life, for his future, and for a certain woman!! MY HERO is set in a homey, welcoming Texas town that a reader can feel very comfortable in, with great characters that make you want to visit, time and time again. MY HERO was a wonderful book, it's a well-written, entertaining romantic story I enjoyed very much !!
