Rating: Summary: Great start and very clever But... Review: I loved the characters of this book. The story took off right away. She is a gifted writer and very witty. Great dialog until we enter the "let's break up the couple once before the end of the book". Enter a hokey vision she has about her future daughter and then they split up. I was disapointed and almost just quit reading. It did not fit with the rest of the story. I felt like her editor had called and said "Finish this book!" I loved her last book. This one didn't quite live up to the promise of her first.
Rating: Summary: Exceptional; better than 5 stars Review: I loved this book. Deightful, totally engaging characters; 2 secondary romances; lots of laughs -- the word play between Austin & Elizabeth is wonderful; passionate elements that hit all the right notes; enough heartache to strike a good balance; and just a touch of mystery.
I thought at first that Elizabeth's visions would be a trite device, but the author used it well. She is a wonderful heroine and Austin is also exceptional. The plot device of a couple being forced to marry for her reputation is believeable here because of their characters and the situation. That they realize their suitability early on is a welcome change from many novels.
I had trouble putting this one down, and it will definitely go on my "buy" list.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Story!... Review: I loved this story from the very beginning! The characters were wonderful, the storyline was fast paced and I found myself transported into the pages! Austin is a Duke and he has a dark family secret that he is determined to keep a secret without hurting his mother, sister and younger brother. Elizabeth is an "upstart American" who falls literally at the feet of a Duke and has no idea who he is. This draws Austin to her since he has been chased by women who want him only for his title. Elizabeth is not impressed by what Austin is but more by who he is. These two keep being thrown together and finally they are caught in a compromising position and marriage is the only answer. Austin does not feel trapped by this need and Elizabeth feels that she is not good enough for him. Together these two work together to solve the mystery of Austin's other brothers death and at the same time teach each other to trust and to love. I really can't say enough about this book. Ms D'Alessandro is swiftly becoming one of my favorite authors and I look forward to reading the sequel to this book.

Rating: Summary: Wonderful Story Review: I loved this story line and the characters. I would have given the book 5 stars without hesitation except for a minor plot twist toward the end of the book that I felt broke the flow of this wonderful book. I love it when a mystery is allowed to carry the tension angle of a book instead of it being between the main characters, and Ms. D'Alessandro does this as well as anyone I've ever read.
Rating: Summary: A sweet and fast read... Review: I read the reviews and expected only a fairly interesting read, but what I found was a completely sweet and beautifully written book. It's hard to describe the feeling you get when you finally find a novel that shows Love at its best. Elizabeth Matthews is a fiesty, spirited American who's just not quite cut out for British Society; Austin Randolph Jamison, 9th Duke of Bradford, is a slightly stubborn bachelor Duke who's tired of the games people play for his attention. One of the first lines describing him that caught my attention was: "He'd never felt so alone in his life." I immediately felt that there was something different about Austin, and indeed there was. He's undeniably more human than other top-lofty dukes in other stories. He's searching for truth and dealing with the painful betrayal of his brother William. I like how D'alessandro writes his character because you feel empathy for him, a connection to his struggles. The only problem I had with the story was the fact that Elizabeth had "visions". But, being open minded and such, I felt that ultimately the visions were necessary in order to gain insight into Elizabeth's character. She's smart, funny, and inherently driven to care about others to the point that she will sacrafice her relationship with Austin because her visions predict unbearable pain for him if he stays with her. Overall, the book is a definite read, one of those you would read again. The plot moves quickly and once you meet the principle characters, you fall immediately in love with them. The conversations are witty and hilarious. And the Love is surprisingly real and believable. A fantastic read all around.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed it Review: I thought the hero and heroine were strong fun characters who love and hurt with a degree that touched even me. Ms. D'Alessandro made a powerful story with courageous and loving people. I also loved the heroine's gift that draws her even closer to the hero especially when he saves her life. I do however wished that Ms. D had worked more on the secondary characters romance in a little more depth. Complanits aside it was a great book.

Rating: Summary: A MUST BUY & READ! Don't put this in your TBR pile! Review: If you like to laugh & cry while you enjoy a book then this is the book for you! Austin is a Duke to die for & Elizabeth is an American woman with a vision! Actually several visions! She drops into Austin's life & turn's everything he's ever felt into something he never dreamed of! Elizabeth is a breath of fresh air in Austin's stuffy world & helps him overcome the guilt & troubles shadowing his family. As always in Jacquie's books the secondary characters are just as fun to get to know & you wish that they had their own books. This story has the sexual tension that makes you feel like you were already there by the time they are! *G* This is a good thing & Jacquie doesn't make us wait to long to join the fun! I have loved EVERYTHING that Jacquie has written, Contemporary & Historical she is a fresh new talent & we are so lucky that there are publishers out there who still know a GREAT book when they read it!
