Rating: Summary: The others were better Review: I rated this book by E. Lynn Harris as average. I did enjoy it but compared to the previous four, this one was okay. I love the way E. Lynn Harris inter-connects his characters with sequal like theme. I was glad when Basil's problem was exposed. His behavior made a lot of sense. I guess he will be on the prowl again hurting and destroying another life. He met his match with Miss Yancey. Miss Yancey is another story entirely. Her mother was the master manipulator. Basil's one desire, conquering Raymond Tyler, adds an unsettled edge to Basil.
Rating: Summary: The Best This Year Review: This is ABSOLUTELY the BEST book I have read all year. I came across the author on a tv show and was interested in reading one of his books. Let me tell you this is one of those books you can't put down until it's done and it you do, you can't wait to get back to it. I think E. Lynn Harris is the best thing in Black fiction since sliced bread.
Rating: Summary: Not a Day Goes By ............Enjoyed the book! Review: I hope there is a part two in the making! When I reached the end of the book, I wanted to keep on reading! I would like to see this book come to life on the big screen.
Rating: Summary: A page turner from the beginning Review: From the beginning, Mr. Harris pulled me in. This is definately a must read. Although I missed reading "Abide with Me", I was not lost with the characters. This is a book that can be read in one day, but I prolonged it by just reading a few pages per day.Although, Yancey's mother is partially the one to blame for Yancey's behavior, I still thought Yancey got the treatment she deserved. Now as for Basil, I thought that he would have made a decision on which road he would have taken for his life journey, but oh was I surprised. This book would be a great stocking stuffer.
Rating: Summary: There are not enough stars to rate this book. Review: People. RUN. DO NOT WALK TO GET THIS BOOK. I now know why it was so hard to get this book. The writing of this book is excellent by all means. Every person who reads this book can relate to a character or situation in this book. First you want to root for Basil because of his past and how he wants to do better for his future. But then you want to switch and root for Yancey because of her lack of motherly love, an unwanted child of her past and allowing herself to listen to her mother is order to win her love. Trust me, you cannot put this book down. With good visualization, you can actually believe that are watching an excellent tv movie. And you can do like me and place Eric LaSalle and Vivian A. Fox as the main characters.
Rating: Summary: HE DID IT AGAIN Review: I was truly satisfied after I read this last book in a series of number 1 top sellers. To think that Basil and Yancey are a a couple and how everything unfolded. This is just not a romance novel, it is a crime, thriller and a mystery all in one book. I was sad but happy to get to the end of the book. I was sad because I knew that the story was over. He writes with such detail and passion that you feel that you are right there living all what the characters are feeling. I finished the book wanting more from this great writer. I too have read all of his books and I am always pleased because of the quality and content. You are the greatest.
Rating: Summary: Easy Read; Very Entertaining Review: As with all of Harris' books, it was very easy to read and enjoyable. However, it was over to soon. I'm ready to start reading the next one!
Rating: Summary: I HAVE 1 QUESTION? WHEN IS THE NEXT BOOK DUE OUT? Review: Like all of E. Lynn Harris' books... "Not a day goes by" was DA BOMB! I couldn't put the book down for a minute. I felt myself in the book, not just reading the book but actually being able to see the characters. I've read all of E. Lynn Harris' books, and I keep looking for the next one and the next and the next!! Don't stop now Mr. Harris I'm hooked on your books!
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I've always loved E.Lynn Harris' books, but this one failed to entertain me as they usually do. This book felt like a rush job; the characters were more like caricatures: soap opera-like and unbelivable, which is unusual for Mr.Harris as his characters are usually so life like. He relies too much on pop culture. There is an abundance of cliches. And I think Yancey and Basil's relationship should have been played out from the beginning. I can hardly believe Basil loves Yancey; just because he says so isn't enough. Show--don't tell--is the oldest writing tool in the book but it is the most effective. How did Basil make the transition from woman hating to woman loving? Well, this book in no way will deter me from reading E. Lynn's following books, because no one's perfect--he is allowed a few faults--and the previous books were so good that I shall keep the faith!
Rating: Summary: I hate to say this but... Review: I've read every one of Mr. Harris' books and have loved them all. They've made me laugh, cry and everything in between. I could really feel the characters. However, with "Not A Day Goes By" I felt the characters a little TOO much. They are both so self centered and childish, I couldn't wait to finish the book so I'd be done with them. They both deserved what they got in the end. I hope that if there is a sequel there will be some sort of epiphany for both to help them become real people and give them some redeeming qualities or I will just have to give up on them altogether. Bring back Raymond, will ya? At least he's a decent human being. Yancey and Basil don't deserve a second thought.
