Rating: Summary: Can I add 5 MORE STARS!!! Review: OK! I'm really upset that I'm finished with the book already - but I couldn't put it down! My cousin bought the book for me and had Mr. Harris autograph it for me at a store in ATL. So, while I waited for the book to arrive, I had to collect my other E. Lynn Harris books that I had "loaned" to other "addicts". I re-read "If This World Were Mine" and "Abide With Me" and then I was really ready for "Not a Day Goes By". Man - I am really suffering from a "jones" for E. Lynn Harris novels. I guess I'll just have to wait it out for the next "work of art". He is DEFINITELY in a class by himself. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to go back and start from the beginning - "Invisible Life" and "Just As I AM" here I come!
Rating: Summary: Not a minute went by. Review: E. Lynn Harris latest saga was a TRIP. When I started this book, I knew then I was not going to put it down till I finished. Every word kept me engrossed and entertained. His characters were out of this world, they were wild, wicked, loveable and deplorable at the same time. Ironically, being a woman,I related and emphatized more with the Basil, the male character than Yancey. I thought Basil was so real. He was brilliant, amazing, gorgeous and yet possessed all the human frailities. Yancey was a disgrace to us women, She really was a sad woman who has a lot to learn about love, life and what it truly means to be successful. I was pleased with the end because Basil deserved a lot better than Yancey, he deserved to find love in either lane. E. Lynn Harris is a master story teller, he has wit, grace, charm and most of all the ability to draw the reader into that world.
Rating: Summary: A Little Disappointed Review: I am a huge fan of Mr.Harris and was eagerly anticipating his new novel...well I was a little disappointed with the storyline! Basil and Yancey should not have been a couple they both have way too much emotional baggage to make a relationship let alone a marriage work. Basil and Yancey has alot of growing up to do their actions were predictable and mean spirited. I would have loved to see them comfort their demons and finally find love and a stable relationship. They both are long over due for some happiness and love. The book was full of cliches and did not flow like Mr. Harris other works. This one read more like a soap opera.
Rating: Summary: He Does It Again!!!!!!!! Review: I must say I really enjoyed this book. I could not put it down, it was finished in just a few hours. I love a book that can have this type of effect on me. Well Basil did try to have a "hetersexual" relationship and "she" was the wrong one. But would it had really matter? Basil had issues that he had to address first and I love the way E.Lynn Harris kept this drama going on til the end. He could write his on Soap Opera series. This book is incredible. I'm still having a hard time figuring out my favorite book from his collection. This is a "must read" book. I want your next book, NOW!!!!!!!!!!! Rating: Summary: Welcome Back E. Lynn Harris!!! Review: After the his last disappointing and boring novel, E. Lynn Harris has returned as the Prince of relationship drama novels. He has returned to the roots of his best books as "Just as I am" and "Invisible Life." I could not put this book down in fact i finish it in one night. It was good to see "gray eyes basil" back in the "swing of things" so to speak. This novel although not one of his best is way better than the last one. He deserves to be a New York Times bestseller.
Rating: Summary: Revenge is best served cold.... Review: I was really into this one, I felt sorry for basil, i mean that yancey gives women a bad name. And her mother, if i could reach into the story i would slap her, she has no morals or respect for other folks privacy. This is a keeper!
Rating: Summary: Basil Is Back! Review: I loved this story. Yancey didn't get it as bad as she should have but on the real it could not last between them. I thought Basil was really settling down. His character keeps me loving these novels so much. I want Mr. Harris to do a book on Basil by himself. The ending of this story has me hyped for the next one.You didn't let me down E. Lynn. You have a true fan. Keep up the excellent job.
Rating: Summary: FOR THE LOVE OF BASIL!! Review: This book only goes to show what a strong writer Mr. Harris is. Who would think that a character with such a small portion in the beginning would turn out to be so captivating -- thanks to the writing skills of Mr. Harris. I love this book and I couldn't put it down. I tried cooking and reading. This book and a bubble bath work wonders. I, of all people, refused to let the telephone interrupt my reading time. What a fantastic way to spend an evening, suspended in time and being almost as fulfilled as I am when I am reading the WORD. Keep up the fantastic work Mr. Harris.
Rating: Summary: Exciting from page 1 to page 271 Review: This book satisfied all my curiousities. E.Lynn Harris does not disappoint his readers and really let's the reader get inside the confused and tormented mind of John Basil Henderson. The relationship between Basil and Yancey is intriguing, exciting and sad. I don't want to spoil it for new readers. I needed more pages to read, it ended to soon.
Rating: Summary: Everyday counts Review: Mr. Harris is just one of my favorite writers, so like always I love all his books some more then others. This book was about John Basil Henderson an ex-professional football player and now a agent in the football field. Basil was once upon a time bi-sexual and now decided to go straight. He's been dating Ms. Yancey for some years now. Yancey was a professional dancer/singer always had a problem finding a job she really wanted. Yancey was very spoiled and didn't want to start from the bottom, she wanted all big parts. Anyway after so many years of dating, Basil decided it was time for him to get marry. So during Yancey's opening night in Las Vegas, Basil thought of the greatest proposal. He was holding uncountable roses, a blue box (with a three karat ring) and pop the big question to her, he ask her to spend the rest of her life with him in front of hundreds of people. Of course she accepted. Yancey and her evil mother Ava (which was never a mother to Yancey) started planning the wedding. Ava was just as evil and greedy as she wanted to be. One day Ava gave Yancey a call and they decided to do a check on Basil to make sure his money was in order, good credit, checking out his background, and his past. It was all Ava's doing, but Yancey went along with it. So Ava gave Yancey a call back.... but let me get to Basil part first.... In the meantime Basil had his doubts abou this future wife. So he put a small recorder in Yancey's room; this would record about a weeks worth of telephone calls. Yancey's mother calls to give her the update on Basil. She told her how Basil has great credit, lots of money but was bi-sexual, hated women. This took Yancey by surprise she was hurt and decided to get even. Basil listen to his tape and heard everything. About how Yancey was going to marry him and later take him for all he got. And about Yancey had a baby and gave it for an adoption and now the person who she gave the baby to is dying and want to give Yancey a second chance to be a mother. It's getting ugly. So I'm not going to tell you the rest, you get the book to find out how the wedding went if it went. Enjoy reading.......
