Summary: I loved it!
Review: I'll keep it short and sweet - I loved this book! It was one that I was sorry to finish. The characters were perfect together and the verbal bantering was hilarious.

Summary: The Hero Almost Ruins It
Review: Let me just say that this is a fabulous book, and I loved it to the core. But Lucas was an overbearing prig who wouldn't let Victoria do what she wanted. He saught her out first just to get her fortune and then decides that he wants to bed her. Victoria is a wonderfully independent woman who falls for his charms. She falls madly in love with him, but he won't give her the love she craves back. At least he likes her when they're married, but it was a little strange that he liked her because of her spunk, and actually encoraged it in their courtship, but as soon as the vows are exchanged, he cracks the whip. No midnight outings, no free use of her own money, etc.... But, he does grow to love her in the end, and despite myself, I grow to love him. It would have been nice if he had returned the affection earlier, but he came around. I love any Quick book and this is just as well writen as the reast of them. It's just that, well, the hero almost ruins it.

Summary: Hero is not
Review: Lucas is clearly a man who uses Victoria for his own means and strings her along with adventure until she is tricked into marrying him. Once she does, he friendly facade fades and she is left with an overbearing "lord" who lords his power over her. What makes her still love him? I certainly don't know.

Summary: A Great Change From The Normal Quick!
Review: That's all that I can think of when _Surrender_ comes to mind. A lot of previous reviewers are complaining that Lucas is too harsh of a hero and that no love is involved in his relationship with Victoria. I would like to strongly disagree. First of all, yes he did go after Victoria for her money... but that was before he met her and got to know her. Isn't that how most relationships start? Someone thinks something of their partner, but as they meet them and get to know them, their opinions change. At least, that has been my experience. Lucas was a very complex character. He was calus at first, but as you peel away his layers, the true man is shown, and it is a very caring, very loving man. I loved him because he was a change from the normal Quick hero. They are usually immediatly loving and let the heroine do whatever they want. Don't get me wrong, that works for a book, but Ms. Quick went out on a limb to have Lucas for her hero. He is more true to the times this book was written in. He doesn't let Victoria do whatever she wants, but he does let her be herself and he doesn't marry her for her money. Victoria was a lovely heroine... I found myself wishing I were her many times (even when Lucas was acting like the big bad wolf). She was spunky but down to earth at the same time. The added element of the paranormal was great spice added to the book, and I enjoyed hearing older beliefs about it. Mystery is Quick's strongest suit, and it is applied perfectly to _Surrender_. You are kept guessing at who the bad apple is while watching the relationship between Lucas and Victoria blossom. All in all, _Surrender_ is a wonderful book. It is a nice change from the normal romance.

Summary: The Hero Is A Fortune Hunter and A Tyrant
Review: The hero, Lucas, needs money to keep his crumbling estate afloat. His only option is to marry an heiress, and he decides on Victoria. Victoria likes adventure in her life. She is unconventional and independent, and Lucas uses this to get close to her. He takes her on midnight escapades until they are caught by her aunt and forced to marry.

Once married, he turns into a tyrant and quickly suppresses any unconventional hobbies she does. As this is a regency novel, I normally would not mind this but I draw the line when the hero trys to change the heroine into something she simply is not.

The heroine, Victoria, begins the story as an independent woman who is slightly unconventional and I didn't like to read of her losing control of things that meant so much to her in the start of the story. Her free use of her own money, her intellectual exploration and flamboyant dress style were quickly put to an end by the hero.

I won't let this put me off Amanda Quick. Rendevous, Mystique, and Ravished are among my favorites.
