Rating: Summary: Worth the Wait, me writing a review for you to read Review: ... For me, this book had its share of Romance which did not offend or insult, but was believable and one that you wanted to cheer on. I did not walk away baffled as to why she liked him or he liked her. At times the author played that fine line emotional game of "who to trust", sometimes causing the heroine to seem whiny, but not overtly so. But I thought about it and decided that if I was to question the very people who I love on the words and doubts of a stranger, how would I react, I realized she was due some whininess. I would also say that subplot story from WWII was interesting and classic BJ. The story could have stood well without it, but with it in the entire plot, the story did not hurt or derail. I am normally a LH fan, and avidly awaited her latest book and was hugely disappointed by the implausibility of it, even though it was fiction. When this book was released I anticipated some sort of disappointment. But I was suprisingly impressed with the dialogue amongst the characters, fast paced nature of the adventure and I really did care who was the killer by the time I got to the climax. So many times books play with the reader that we lose interest in who what why. This book was a great precursor for summer reading. I recommend everyone to try it. It does not insult your intelligence, yet does not try to teach you about WWII history. It is what it sets out to be, a fictional contemporary romance. Thank you Brenda Joyce.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: Claire Hayden had been considering divorce, but she never wished her husband, David, dead! At the end of his birthday party Claire found his body. Ian Marshall had been tracking the killer for years. Ian was a director of special investigations dealing with war crimes and David had been a link. Claire and Ian team up to catch a killer whose crimes reach out from World War II. Claire never REALLY knew her husband after all. ***** This novel is non-stop from the beginning until the end. Ian was an enigma at first. He soon became as fascinating to me as to Claire. Part of the story happened during World War II. Author Brenda Joyce managed to show the connections without going into too much historic detail. I was able to follow along without many distractions. The book is filled with action, mysteries, romance, and an awesome ending! I could tell little in the synopsis for fear of giving some surprises away. Highly recommended here! *****
Rating: Summary: Well-plotted, fast-paced tale with unpredicatable ending Review: Courtesy of A Romance Review In The Chase, Ms Joyce has chosen WWII as the background for the story and unfolds the mystery layer by layer with individual plots. The story swings back and forth between WWII and the present day. At the same time, each individual plot fades out gracefully whenever another plot takes over. The most intriguing plot of the story is in 1940 and readers will discover that their attention immediately falls on Lionel Elgin, Rachel Greene and Eddy Marshall and forget about Claire and Ian temporarily. Even though Lionel Elgin is the bad guy of the decade, he leads the whole story from beginning to end. The romance part of the book concentrates on the undying love of Lionel's Jewish cousin, Rachel, and the dashing American RAF pilot, Eddy Marshall and makes the other couple, Claire and Ian, fade from the story. The Chase is a well-plotted, fast-paced tale with an unpredictable ending. A lot of questions and mysteries will not be answered until you read the last page. This is one book that you will treasure and won't want to miss.
Rating: Summary: A disappointing novel from Brenda Joyce Review: Even as a diehard fan of Brenda Joyce, one thing has become clear to me. Her forte is clearly historical romance/fiction. Her last few books, The Third Heiress, and House of Dreams have not displayed her talent for writing. Instead, Ms. Joyce's Deadly series offer a much more interesting suspense and character development. The beginning of the Chase starts out in a promising manner. However, as the reader continues this murder mystery, with Claire as the protagonist and Ian Marshall as a stranger with whom she connects with, one starts to wonder, why would he team up with her in this chase to find her husband's killer? Their chemistry is lacking. Instead, the heartier portion of the book which is devoted to the 1940's storyline (about the connection between Ian Marshall, Claire, and her husband's murder) is much more intriguing and definitely more well written. There is definitely suspense, but The Chase is not a book which you read every page of. Skip the beginning, and you'll have a pretty good book. I would recommend Linda Howard, Shades of Twilight, or After the Night if you're interested in contemporary romantic thrillers.
Rating: Summary: A good read Review: I liked this one. It reminded me alittle of Suzanne Brockmann's way of telling a story in a story. Claire finds her husband dead on his birthday. She is at the point of asking for a divorce. But with his death she finds herself plunged into a mystery, not only for today but a mystery connected to a spy during WWII. Ian Marshall is a Nazi Hunter that her husband contacted before he was killed. He has his own reasons for hunting the spy. We learn the whole story, through flashbacks that touch our hearts. A wonderful love story that didn't have a proper end. Togather, through twists and turns we are kept on edge looking for our spy. This book truely has a different and wonderful ending. I greatly enjoyed the adventure and romance.

Rating: Summary: Don't waste your time Review: I loved the way this book started out. Claire was real and beleivable, as was the tension between her and Ian. That got me through David's, (Claire's Husband)funeral. You knew she found true love already. I loved it when Claire broke into Ian's room and followed him to New York, I did think that they had chemistry and I liked the story immensley. BJ, winds two stories together, the story of Claire and Ian in the here and now and there search for WW11 serial killer, and while everytime you think you know who it is, you are proven wrong, because whomever the killer is, is part of Claire's life now. I had thought of this person and dismissed them, due to the fact I did not feel there was enough to point to them. BJ definately wends her way through to show you how this person was the killer, and she does it through the whole book. They do have 2 sections dedicated to the historical WW11 aspect, where they show Ian's ancestors, Rachel and Eddy "Hawk" Marshall. I loved Eddy!!!! Rachel was great to, I would have loved to have more to their story, but it was short because they were both murdered. BJ does a nice job winding this in, and laying out her facts. The reason I only gave this 3-3/4 stars is because of the very last part. I agree w/one of the previous readers, it was a little hard to beleive that Ian would take Claire on, but I just figured that if she was following him anyway, he thought he could manage her better by being with him. Also in the last segment, when Claire is having to deal w/the fact that the serial killer known as Elgin is possibly her father, I thought she was TOO angry and distrustful of Ian. I did not see what Ian had done to make her so distrustful, and thought she was being an immature idiot. She lost my sympathy in the last 2 chapters or so. Overall, I really enjoyed it, I thought BJ did a great job of giving us a complete history and would definately read more of these. They are a little more on the Iris Johanson side than the romance side. The story is about the murderer and the catching of, the romances are the side story to keep everything from being too dry. I would not hesitate to buy this book, but if you are just a straight romance fan, you might not care for it. This book is much darker than that.

Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I read this in one day. I could not put it down. She did a wonderful job of keeping you guessing and keeping the tension level high. I would highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: An "alright" book. Review: I really enjoyed the WWII story of Eddie and Rachel. And, I found the final villian fairly surprising. But I didn't see much chemistry between Claire & Ian. It was as if their romance was thrown in there just "because". And, riddle me this: Why is it that the "hero" can deceive, use and manipulate the heroine and she ends up feeling she was foolish to call him on it AND ends up begging for HIS forgiveness? Talk about misplaced guilt!
