Rating: Summary: excellent first half, good second half Review: I loved the first half of this book but I was disappointed with the second half. The characters of Claire and Roan were just not as strong as adults.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely my all time favorite book! Review: I stumbled upon this book by accident about 2-3 years ago. Since that time I have read it about a dozen times. The characters are impossible to forget. When I read "A Place to Call Home" it's almost like I'm watching the characters in real life. My favorite book EVER!
Rating: Summary: HANDS DOWN--BEST BOOK I READ IN 1998 Review: I needed a book to take along on vacation and did I pick a winner! Almost a year later, I still cannot get the characters out of my mind. From time to time, I find myself grabbing this book off the shelf and re-reading parts of it. This was a book that will live in my memory (and heart) forever!
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Book! Review: This is the all-time best romance novel I have ever read. There is no other writer than can so eloquently protray human emotion. The author has a talent for portraying both primary and secondary characters in amazing clarity and realness.
Rating: Summary: A beautiful story of unwavering and soul-stirring love. Review: The people and places in this book are vibrant and and interesting. The story touched me deeply. I was moved to tears at times. This is a beautiful story of people overcoming prejudice and various social stigmas to know one another. They had assurance of a soul-connection. All outside doubts could not destroy that assurance. Wonderful!
Rating: Summary: Modern day romance rich with southern heritage Review: This book is clearly one of the best I've ever read. Ms. Smith makes you feel the intensity of the lives Claire and Roan lead. Their spunk, wit, devotion, and passion leave you breathless. All of this wrapped in a true modern day southern family make the book irresistable! Each time I read it, I feel as though I have a place to call home.
Rating: Summary: HEARTBREAKING, ROMANTIC, FAMILY STORY Review: Place to Call Home by Deborah Smith is the best book I have read. A story about family, heartbreak, healing, and passion. I recommend this book to everyone who shares a passion for the good books in life.
Rating: Summary: an enjoyable read Review: It is often difficult to find a book that is well written, without racy sex, murder, blood and gore. This is such a book. The first half of the book is written from the point of a young girl, who happens to be infatuated with a rebellious teenage boy. The way the author describes the girl's life is very enjoyable. The book then continues from a thirty-year-old woman's point of view as she struggles to find the now older man. All in all, this book is a joy to read.
Rating: Summary: very touching story Review: This was the first book I have read of Deborah Smith's and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Claire was a little girl with the biggest heart. Roan was the lonliest boy in town. The two were soulmates. Their backgrounds didnot matter. I felt for them both from page one. A VERY moving story. Good job Deborah. Hope to read many more!!!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down! Review: This book was one I will definitely read again. I found it very hard to put down. I found myself laughing and crying right along with Claire and Roan. Ms. Smith has a great insight into family loyalties as well as many mixed emotions that are hard to put a name to. I loved it! I plan on reading more of her books.
