Summary: A fine novel if you understand its purpose
Review: This book is a wonderful and interesting read. For those looking for the answers to life the universe and everything...don't look here. Matheson provides some interesting ideas, but he is not attempting to give answers (by the way, the answer is 42.) He is merely giving an example of what it MIGHT be like. In all honesty, it sounds pretty good, and I wish that a lot of what Matheson writes IS true. As for those who hated the book...lighten up! Good literature stretches ones mind, even if one disagrees with the views expressed. Matheson expresses the views well, weaving them with an interesting storyline. A fine novel and some great modern writing.

Summary: The Greatest Love Story Of All-Time
Review: Before I review the book, I just want to briefly say, don't diss the movie! It's a marvelous adaptation of this marvelous book. I guess the subject matter was simply too heavy for some moviegoers & critics, but not me! And the film's Oscar win for Best Visual Effects was WELL-deserved, indeed. Having said that....I love Richard Matheson's original novel as well. I couldn't put it down! As far as I'm concerned, the story of Chris & Annie beats by a zillion miles the love stories of Romeo & Juliet, Jack & Rose from "Titanic," and all other love stories for that matter. It's a love story that touches my heart & soul, and expands my beliefs about what possibly awaits us when our time here is through. Of course, "Dreams" doesn't *prove* anything about the afterlife, but it sure leaves me hopeful about what it may be like. Matheson definitely did his research when he wrote this story, and I thank him for that. A gorgeous novel AND a gorgeous film, "What Dreams May Come" is a true classic story of romantic love, the love of family, and love that conquers life AND death. I can't recommend it enough! Thanks, Richard. :-)

Summary: WINDED
Review: Would of been better if 100pages shorter. Found myself skimming and skipping, which was unfortunate because the subject matter had potential As far as the love story...only Chris was in love. They weren't soulmates . They weren't on the same wave length (vibration) at all. They didn't share the same beliefs. And Ann was absolutely! steadfastly! close-minded to the possibility of an afterlife, even when it might potentially reuniting her with Chris. As to the "facts", and Bibliography...ahch , who knows. I'm definitely open. The book was published in '78.

Summary: ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: This book is one of the greatest books that I have evr read. O.K., so it's not Dante, or Moore, or whomever, but Matheson never claimed to be. Read it as a book -one that can enlighten your mind and help you look at things in a different way -not MAKE you look at things in a different way. One of the lasting messages in this book is that IT'S ALL IN YOUR MIND, HOW YOU THINK OF THINGS, AND YOU, AND YOU ALONE, DECIDE WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO THINK. Yep, Dante was pretty damn insightful, but even HE didn't have the PERFECT THOUGHTS.... ARE THERE ANY?

Summary: An unfortunate book
Review: What Dreams May Come is a perfect example of what not to do. Perfect proof that modern man is completely cut off from any authentic tradition capable of dealing with questions of any substance. Is there anything from the Bible, Milton, St. Augustine, anything, in here? No. Its based largely on New Age books, self help books from the past twenty years. Think McDonalds drive thru for the soul. If you want a real journey, and a book that will make you work for it, do yourself (and your soul) a favour and read Dante's Divine Comedy. Skip this wishy washy, Hallmark, protestant tripe. As somebody said, 'get serious, or go to hell.'

Summary: BRILLIANT...ENTHRALLING...REFERENCE RICH!!
Review: Richard Matheson obviously did more than "research" for this incredible work, "What Dreams May Come." My belief is that he was clearly in tune with a "higher" consciousness to be able to write with such impeccable clarity and detail as he conveyed this work to his readers. Yes I give this piece the highest praise I can. I am, most certainly intrigued by such a premise (as afterlife and reincarnation) to begin with. To be able to successfully keep a reader spellbound in the developing plot, all while giving a boat load of information on such metaphysical topics is a talent to say the least. I feel blessed to have had the insight to reach for this book. It kept me focused and anticipative throughout. Thank you Mr. Matheson! p.s. I welcome e-mails from others who have read it. Would love to chat about it further!!

Summary: If you read one book this year, let this be it.
Review: This book deals with relationships and love, life and death, and heaven and hell.

It is a mans journey to the after-life. Matheson describes the mans thoughts, and perception in great detail. The heaven and hell scenerios are so realistic and are like nothing you have imagined. I have recommended this book to everyone that I have met, that includes you... reading this review. It is an awesome book, you will want to read again and again. It may even change your life.

Summary: Visionary
Review: I could not put this book down. It was more than I expected. I was amazed by how Matheson's afterlife was described, it was full of heart. It was not a sappy romance novel, this one is beyond such a simple discription. To bad they could not stick to the book more when they made the movie. They ruined a great story. My advice, stick to the book. You will not be disappointed.

Summary: This is an awesome book!
Review: What Dreams May Come was a really good story. When Cris is separated from his family by his tragic death, he will go to hell and back to get them back. This is a really good book to read.
