Rating: Summary: A truly wonderful book Review: This book describes the courtship of Danial and Anna. It showed the deepth of their love for each other and Anna's determation to be a doctor. The second half of the book is a look back at the MacGregor family in the 1700's. I enjoyed the first half of this book more than the second half, but this book is defantly worth the time it takes to read it. I stayed up all night to finish reading it I couldn't put it down.

Rating: Summary: Early roots of the MacGregor Series Review: This book relates the story of Daniel and Anna and shows how they met and formed an immediate love/hate connection. Both fiercely independent, they each wanted their own way in life more than they wanted each other. Anna was a woman ahead of her time, studying to be a doctor against the wishes of her parents and the norms of society. Daniel was a consummate businessman, who had begun to build a business empire which would only grow in the future. Anna wanted a career and Daniel wanted her to be his non-working wife. How they worked out their differences is the crux of this first story. The second story tells of Daniel's ancestor, Ian, who had a history as a rebel in his native Scotland and who brought that rebellious spirit to America where he continued to fight the British. The first story is longer and does a better job of developing the characters, while the second one is almost too short to tell the story properly. For The MacGregor Family fans, however, this book fills in some information about the history of the family.

Rating: Summary: A good book to curl up with... Review: This is a great story if you love romance, but just a warning, it can be slow at times. Nora Roberts does an excellent job of describing her characters and the story. A great book to curl up in front of the fire with, or to just daydream with.
Rating: Summary: In the beginning.... Review: This is the third book of the Macgregor's that I have read. What an interesting family! I generally prefer historical novels and found this latest installment enjoyable if a tad short on plot. The one thing that irks me is when I read a series out of order and some of the characters become confusing. This can easily happen with The Macgregor series as the "clan" is so large. I would have rated the book, and series, higher if the scenes moved forward with a bit more action and a little faster. Also, I tend to like longer novels and sometimes feel a bit stranded at the end of a short story. All in all, Ian's story is important to understand the patriarch's psyche as well as his motivation to involve himself in his children's and grandchildren's lives. The Macgregor series is definitely worth the time.... light, compassionate, and well written stories. I recommend reading them in order of the family generational chart printed in the front of each book. Start with "DANIEL-IAN" and move on. If you like contemporaries you won't be dissappointed as all the other books in the series remain in the 20th century.
Rating: Summary: MacGregors, Daniel and Ian: Review: This story is the beginning of a legend after reading about Daniel and how important family is to him, it was wonderful to find out how he found love. Each book in the MacGregor series is like hearing about old friends. This is a book you can read agin and agin.

Rating: Summary: A very disappointing story. Review: This was my first Nora Roberts book. After hearing and reading so many rave reviews of her other books this seemed a fitting start. I was beginning to wonder what all the fuss was about and decided to forget about this author, when I looked up what others thought about this book. It was encouraging to see that others agree with me, that this is a very boring story. I disliked these characters. I really did not care what happened to them. For someone as smart as Anna was supposed to be, she seemed incredibly stupid. I absolutely hated that Anna insisted on living with Daniel before she would consider marriage. This really goes against my moral values. I hear her other books in this series are better so I will find out. But, be warned this is not the impressive stuff I had anticipated at all.
Rating: Summary: Boring, boilerplate material Review: This was not even close to the quality of the other (more modern-day) MacGregor books. Maybe if you're a fan of those "historical" romance novels, you'd like it, but if you like realistic, modern day love stories skip these. It was almost impossible to go back and picture Daniel as a young man. I'd rather think of him as the meddling, fiercely loyal parent and grandparent he became.
