Rating: Summary: One of Katie's best! Review: Katie MacAlister's greatest strength lies in creating heroines who--though not always pictures of perfection and self-confidence--are thoroughly likable, funny, and are always figures with whom her readers can instantly identify. Tessa, of 'The Corset Diaries,' is no exception. Her misadventures on the set of a reality television show are side-splittingly funny, and her romance with the show's thoroughly irresistible male lead is all the more tender and sweet in contrast. Do yourself a favor and buy this book--you definitely won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: Katie does it again! Review: Another great book by Katie! Humor, realism and yet still allowing the escape we all read these for. I've bought every book Katie's written - adult and YA - and look forward to each new one. Thanks again, Katie, for giving us laughter /and/ love.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: This book is so great. I've read all the books by this author and her writing is still just as funny and witty. The characters seem like actual people with real worries. It is also written in first person, which is impressive.
Rating: Summary: Realistic People - Fantastic Read Review: Another wonderful Katie Mac book. I love the fact that the heroine is "skinny challenged", like so many women today are. We need more books like this! From my gigglings and laugher, my husband decided it must be one heck of a book, so much so that he is now reading his first ever 'romance', and has the rest of Katie Mac's books next in the pile of books he must read... the TOP of the pile.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely loved it! Review: Anyone who doesn't find this a great read, eats flies. I loved this book. I think it's great that the main character is an intelligent, thoughtful, self aware woman. A heroine that's plus sized and gets her man in the end. Loved the dishy male lead, a character you can just imagine in your minds eye. The supporting cast is hilarious, even the snot nosed brat! If you don't laugh at least once, you have no sense of humor! I'm a huge fan of Katie, ever since I picked up Improper English, the dishy Scot from Men in Kilts, and the hunky Vamp Christian. If you want a new fresh author give her a try! Jenn
Rating: Summary: boy do I understand! Ouch! Review: Last fall, I stepped into a hole in the back yard and twisted my knee. At the time, that was so painful, I did not notice I cracked open the sternum of my ribcage. I woke in great pain during the night and had to be rushed to hospital. The immediately solution was stuff me into a corset to where I could not breath - crushing my ribcage. Surprisingly, you get "sort of" used it as the weeks pass, but you really are amazed at the women that lived their whole lives in that fashion. It's small wonder they swooned! So, recalling how bad it hurt to laugh with a corset, I am eternally grateful that Katie Macalister waited until I was out of the bloody thing to release the Corset Diaries. Had I read this while trussed up like a turkey, I would have been in serious trouble! I would so hate to have my demise on Ms. Macalister conscience! And I fear that would have been the result. This book is just such a howl. Katie's is a brand of humour that makes one feel good. It's a special gift. Her books won't change the world, solve the rain forest problem or go down into the history of literature, but they are sheer fun. And this one is another special gem from a very talented writer. It's a funny, witty, sexy, Benny Hill - Monty Python bawdy romp. Some people don't get Brit humour, so they miss all the fun. Sorry for them. The rest of us shall delight in this tale of Tessa, a less than stunningly perfect, 39-year-old who takes on the chore of acting the role of Duchess for a week, corset and all. Frankly, I felt for Tessa when her heart goes pitter-patter over her leading man Max - her "Duke". Rapid breaths in steel stays is just dangerous! Its wickedly sly dialogue charms us as "Duchess" Tessa adjusts to life as it was over a century ago. Stocked full of charming characters, it's a delight from start to finish. Katie's brings her special touch to this amusing story. Still, I am so glad I read it now, instead of four months ago when my brush with a corset left deep impression on me - figuratively and literally!! Keep spinning the magic, and we shall keep laughing!
Rating: Summary: Simply Wonderful! Review: What can I say? Katie MacAlister has done it again! THE CORSET DIARIES is a fun and [appealing] book that takes another American woman and plunks her into England - this time as the pretend wife of a pretend Victorian-era duke. Tessa's the kind of heroine I prefer in that she's by no means perfect - not physically nor emotionally. But she always means well. As for Max, the hero - he's not perfect, either, but if he were real, I'd bet many of us would think that he WAS perfect! :) I laughed many times while reading this book, but I was also genuinely touched by Tessa's regard for her late husband, as well as the grudging relationship that develops between she and Max's unruly daughter. MacAlister just keeps getting better and better!
Rating: Summary: Not for the humor impared Review: Yet again Katie delivers a book full of open, honest, so-real-I-can't-believe-she-wrote-that humor, that has become an endeering drawing point to her books. Although I am a large fan of paranormal romances on any given day, Katie's books offer a refreshing lift out of the dark and serious, into the light and purely enjoyable. Read 'The Corset Diaries' with an open mind, and you will find that this is a simply sumptuous book for accompanying you on those long days on the beach, or while sipping one of those icy coffee delights at the local cafe.
Rating: Summary: a special brand of giggles Review: Once again, I find myself loving a Katie Mac book. I get so sick of goddess gorgeous heroines. It's SO nice to have one that is very down to earth and as accident prone as I am. I laughed so hard. Yes, it's not Shakespeare, but then, silly, I did not buy it expecting that! I want what MacAlister delivers - fun!
Rating: Summary: braw on his foot and he will follow you any where!! LOL Review: Katie MacAlister is at it again!!!!!!!! I do so adore her klutzy females and Tessa Riodan is another one that charms her way into your heart. Tessa, a 39 years old, 6 foot tall "pleasingly plumb" lady, accepts the role of playing a turn of the century Duchess in a BBC reality show. She is not an actress, in no form would she be considered actress material, but the pays is good, something she cannot turn down. Despite her self doubts, one look at Max Edgerton, the man cast as her "Duke", hits her like a ton of bricks. And being typical KA's heroine, she promptly braws on his foots. You know he loses his heart instantly!! But that is the least of her problems, there are pressing things on the front on her mind - pressing as corset!! Breathing seriously comes before romance! With a cast of nutty characters this is one fun time. A first rate romp through love, breathing and quirky Brits!
