Rating: Summary: CAN WE PLAESE STOP THE HATE! Review: This is my second time reading Weber's work and I have to admit I really loved it. Not because it was the next African American literary masterpiece but because it was a good story that held my attention and made me laugh. The same way Sydney Shelton or Danielle Steel does when I read books written by whites. From what I can tell that's all Mr. Weber was trying to do. Write a story that people will enjoy. I'm so sick of these so call critics that make everything seem like if it's not written by Toni Morrison it's not a good book. I respect the Toni Morrison's of the world but she's not what I like to read. I like Carl Weber, Eric Dickey, E. Lynn Harris and of course Terry! Why do people have to hate? If you don't like a book just say it wasn't for you. Insult's like it was written by a high schooler is insulting to all people of color. For those of you who haven't read Player haters it's a good book with a funny ending.
Rating: Summary: Fun and Entertaining, but Predictable in Areas. Review: The good news first: With his novel, "Player Haters", Carl Weber has created a hilarious, page turning story with brilliant dialouge and plot twists in every chapter. Weber tells three different stories simultaneously in this novel. The first deals with Trent, a 35 year old "player" who charms women and swindles them out of their money. The second story deals with Trent's older brother Wil, who is having marital problems and contemplating infidelity. Last but not least, there's little sister, Melanie, and her up and down romance with a gentleman she met at the club. All characters have a lot of spunky personality and remind us of people we would encounter in our every days lives.Weber is no scholar or literary genius, but you will like his ability to tell a story well. His writing style is lean and has no "fat". He only gives us the brief details we need to know and this helps to speed up the pace of the story. In other words, there is never a dull moment, here. The book is funny, witty, and annoying (in a good way). It has the flavor, inner city appeal, and humor that you would find in a movie like "Friday" or "Barbershop". The book would have gotten five stars from me, had it not been for two significant flaws: 1) One of the supporting characters turns "psycho" and begins to develop a love obsession for one of the main characters. Why is this a flaw? Well, first of all, this scenario has been done over and over again in countless other novels (and movies), so it's an old, worn out, unrealistic, predictible cliche that we ALL should be weary of by now. "Fatal Attraction" was the ONLY story that effectively dealt with the subject matter, in my opinion. Too many of our African American writers (in particular) are beating the "psycho stalkin' character" plot like a dead horse. Michael Baisden did it in "God's Gift to Women". Zane wore it out in "Addicted", and Martin Lawrence did it in "A Thin Line Between Love and Hate". To all aspiring writers, out there, if you are currently writing about a violent psycho character who has a love obsession and gets jilted, STOP IT RIGHT NOW! We all know what's going to happen and how it's going to end. Save it and give us something different, PLEASE. 2) The second flaw here relates to the first flaw. Without revealing what is going to happen, (If you read this book, you'll be able to guess. Trust me.) I'll say that Weber tries (unsuccessfully) to mix genres in this book. The book is mostly upbeat and funny, but it has some dramatic elements and life threatening danger. The two don't mix well in this story. I was spending so much time laughing at Trent's antics that it seemed awkward when the serious moments happened to Wil. It made the impact of the dramatic moments less dramatic and a little ridiculous. If you're going to write a drama, I say write a drama and tone down the humor some. If you're writng a farce, don't all of a sudden add in a 9/11 tragedy and expect us to stop laughing and take it seriously. Bottom line is this: Yes, I give this one both thumbs up! It's a fun read-----As long as you are not looking for something serious, deep, extremely introspective, and rich with literary merit! "Player Haters" is a must read for those who love great storytelling and suprise twist endings. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Trent----What A Man, What a Man Review: So you think you know the definition of a player, well I think you will change your mind once you read this novel written by Carl Weber. He takes us further into the lives of the Duncans, the family we grew to love from his previous novel, Married Men.
The Duncans are a unique family complete with sibling rivalry, heartbreaks, and family secrets. The siblings are Will, Melanie, and the biggest playa of them all, Trent Duncan.
Trent finds out that one of his exes claims that he is the father of the child. But the child didn't look like him when he was born, plus his ex had been getting her a little sumptin sumptin on the side.
Watch how this smooth operator lures the women in and makes them feel real special. But the biggest thrill is to watch this player in action. Remember the movie, How to be A Player starring Bill Bellamy, well, Bill would be a trainee under Trent.
Go ahead read the book, I guarantee you will finish it in one day. I know this reader did. If you ain't scared, I dare you to pick it up, playa'.

Rating: Summary: hmmm sounds familiar Review: It seems weird. As I read this book I thought do I know these guys. The book had so many twists and turns I couldn't sleep afterwards.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I finished this book in Two Days! I loved it. Carl did his thang! My favorite person of the book was Trent. I knew that he was a bad guy, but he was smooth as hell. And the end threw me for a loop, but I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it. Wil, was wrong to tell his new co-worker anything about his home front. That is how mess gets started in the first place. Mel, she was cool, but a little slow. You never tell all your business to your best friend about a man that you are so head over hills for until you know you have a solid relationship with. Cause Dez wasn't Sh*t!. I loved the drama and Can't wait til the next. Thank you for doing You!
Rating: Summary: Once again... Review: Carl Weber is a great author. He has a way of telling a story and making you feel like you are a character in the story. This book is funny, interesting and will keep you up at all times of the night from beginning to the end. I can't wait for the next novel...Hurry up Carl!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Player Haters Review: I LOVE Carl Weber's books. I love his style, and the way he puts some much needed drama in everything he writes.
The only thing I didn't like about this book was the title. It's a little too played out and cliche, but that's neither here nor there.
PLAYER HATERS is the story of the Duncan family. Wil, Trent and Melanie Duncan are close as siblings should be, standing by each other and helping to resolve each one's issues.
Wil loves his wife Diane, but she has been keeping a secret and turning away from him, leaving Wil to suspect only the worst from his wife. When his new temp secretary, Mimi comes in, Wil may turn to her for what he feels he is missing from Diane.
Trent, Melanie and Wil's playboy brother, is a scheming, and low down dirty ladies man. And boy do the ladies LOVE him. He has the charm, and swagger of a man who can talk the panties off a nun. But that charm won't get him out of the predicament of having someone's life on his shoulders. He needs to grow up fast, and take care of the son he has been denying before he loses everything he has.
Melanie has met the man of her dreams in Prince. He is attentive, romantic, and not to mention HANDSOME. She sees Prince in her future, and thinks he is the one for her. The problem is, someone very close to her thinks the same thing. If this person can't have Prince to herself, then she will make sure Melanie can't either.
Rating: Summary: 2 1/2 stars for this below-average story Review: Maybe it's just me, but I didn't find this book memorable or well-written. My biggest issue is that there were too many "main" characters and not enough depth on any of them. The ending was ridiculous and did not match with the lighthearted and comical tone of the rest of the novel. Had it not been for the strange ending, I may have given this book a better rating.
I'm glad to see authors like Carl Weber writing books targeted for African American readers and addressing issues that we deal with in romantic relationships, but his writing is a bit too sensational to me. It's a little "Ricki Lake" when I'm looking for something more "Oprah Winfrey".
Rating: Summary: You gotta read this book! Review: The ending was not what I expected so much so that I was hurting myself laughing. I had to email Carl Weber and tell him about himself. Smile. Read this book. I was not disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Very Satisfied Review: I really enjoyed this book....perfect for summer reading. Very entertaining and at times funny. The author has a excellent ear for dialogue and I can relate to the characters and the locations described in the book. Because of this book, I am a devoted fan and eager to read more.
