Summary: page turner
Review: As always, Carl Weber does it again. I couldn't put it down. Good book. Plenty of drama. Definite must read.

Summary: Kept my attention
Review: This book was an enjoyable read. I finished the book in one day trying to see what happens next. I agree with one of the other reviewers; the drama and comedy was mixed in so t was hard to laugh and then sit there w/ your mouth hanging open but i did enjoy the story. If you are going to buy the book, be careful. Some of the other reviewers told the story and that will ruin the book....

Summary: For the player and the haters...
Review: Carl Weber has done it again! Carl did a great job of picking characters out of his Married Men novel to write this book. While I was hoping to see more characters pop up from Married Men, I was not dissatisfied with the novel at all. One minute I was laughing and other times I was shocked and couldn't wait to see what would happen next. The ending will definitely shock you and make you want more. I was really feeling these characters. Carl did a wonderful job with keeping you on a rollercoaster ride with what would happen next. He also did a wonderful job writing three character's stories simultaneously and holding your attention to each story. While I think Married Men was better, I would still HIGHLY recommend this book. You won't be disappointed. This is definitely a one day read.

Summary: Fun and Entertaining, but Predictable in Areas.
Review: The good news first: With his novel, "Player Haters", Carl Weber has created a hilarious, page turning story with brilliant dialouge and plot twists in every chapter. Weber tells three different stories simultaneously in this novel. The first deals with Trent, a 35 year old "player" who charms women and swindles them out of their money. The second story deals with Trent's older brother Wil, who is having marital problems and contemplating infidelity. Last but not least, there's little sister, Melanie, and her up and down romance with a gentleman she met at the club. All characters have a lot of spunky personality and remind us of people we would encounter in our every days lives.

Weber is no scholar or literary genius, but you will like his ability to tell a story well. His writing style is lean and has no "fat". He only gives us the brief details we need to know and this helps to speed up the pace of the story. In other words, there is never a dull moment, here. The book is funny, witty, and annoying (in a good way). It has the flavor, inner city appeal, and humor that you would find in a movie like "Friday" or "Barbershop".

The book would have gotten five stars from me, had it not been for two significant flaws:

1) One of the supporting characters turns "psycho" and begins to develop a love obsession for one of the main characters. Why is this a flaw? Well, first of all, this scenario has been done over and over again in countless other novels (and movies), so it's an old, worn out, unrealistic, predictible cliche that we ALL should be weary of by now. "Fatal Attraction" was the ONLY story that effectively dealt with the subject matter, in my opinion. Too many of our African American writers (in particular) are beating the "psycho stalkin' character" plot like a dead horse. Michael Baisden did it in "God's Gift to Women". Zane wore it out in "Addicted", and Martin Lawrence did it in "A Thin Line Between Love and Hate".

To all aspiring writers, out there, if you are currently writing about a violent psycho character who has a love obsession and gets jilted, STOP IT RIGHT NOW! We all know what's going to happen and how it's going to end. Save it and give us something different, PLEASE.

2) The second flaw here relates to the first flaw. Without revealing what is going to happen, (If you read this book, you'll be able to guess. Trust me.) I'll say that Weber tries (unsuccessfully) to mix genres in this book. The book is mostly upbeat and funny, but it has some dramatic elements and life threatening danger. The two don't mix well in this story. I was spending so much time laughing at Trent's antics that it seemed awkward when the serious moments happened to Wil. It made the impact of the dramatic moments less dramatic and a little ridiculous. If you're going to write a drama, I say write a drama and tone down the humor some. If you're writng a farce, don't all of a sudden add in a 9/11 tragedy and expect us to stop laughing and take it seriously.

Bottom line is this: Yes, I give this one both thumbs up! It's a fun read-----As long as you are not looking for something serious, deep, extremely introspective, and rich with literary merit! "Player Haters" is a must read for those who love great storytelling and suprise twist endings. Enjoy!

Summary: DRAMA AT IT'S BEST!! CARL WEBER HAS DONE IT AGAIN!
Review: I was no stranger to Carl Weber's writing style because I have all of his previous books and they have all impressed me. But this book is his best book so far. Trent is a player and can't stand for anybody to hate on him, especially his brother Will's wife Diane, but what will this player do when BOTH of his fiancee's find out about each other? Especially Michelle who he dated for ten years only to walk out on her while she was in the delivery room because the baby was too dark to be his. On the other hand, Wil has an attractice secretary working as a temp in his office who seems too good to be true. You know what they say, if it seems to good to be true then it is. Find out what she will do to make Wil her husband:) Did I mention that she had killed her ex-bosses wife also? Finally we come to Melanie, Trent's sister that is pregnant by a man that she is no longer speaking to. Prince was everything that his name described until she found out the secret that Prince and her best friend had been keeping from her. This book has all kinds of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The ending will surely shock you!! DO NOT HESITATE TO BUY THIS BOOK BY ANY MEANS!!

Summary: A TRUE PAGE TURNER
Review: I must say, when I first heard about this book, I did not know what to expect. I had read Carl's other books and I enjoyed them. This one was different though, instead of the drama and the jokes, it had some real issues in there, which made the book a real page turner. Some of the stuff came off as ridiculous, but I believe that there are people out there that are like that (Thank goodness that I have not met any of them) The end was a surprise though, I expected the usual story, but this was far from. I read this book in 4 hours, turn off the TV, lock the doors and curl up with this book and a nice snack, for it will keep you enthralled.

Summary: Checkmate! Game over!
Review: What do you get when you meet three individuals who are players in the game, victims of the game, or about to be played in the game? You get the latest novel from bestselling author, Mr. Carl Weber, appropriately titled Player Haters.

Carl Weber, #1 Essence Bestselling author of Baby Momma Drama and founder of Urban Books, has, once again, satisfied our craving for drama. This page-turner of a novel will have you doubled over in laughter and begging for more. As with his previous novels, Carl has incorporated a huge dose of drama, an equal measure of laughter, and a sprinkle of compassion for his characters, to concoct a spectacular read.

Watch out Jerry Springer, Maury, and Montel!!! The Duncan family and their antics will surely put your guests to shame. These well-developed characters are off the chain with their off-the-chart imaginations.

Wil's troubled marriage is at a greater risk of being destroyed as a result of the advances from his all-too accommodating secretary, Mimi. Will he be able to resist the temptation, or will he succumb to what seems to be the greener grass on the other side? I'm sure that after Wil experiences the wrath of Mimi, he will be requiring a strict background check on his employees from here on out.

Trent is your multi-occupational worker. Only problem is, his jobs are a figment of his imagination and change constantly to fit the purpose of winning the heart of the women he is set on getting his dirty paws on. Instead of living paycheck to paycheck, Trent makes ends meet by living woman to woman. Trent is your typical dog who makes his living demoralizing women, and one who may have just barked up the wrong tree.

Melanie has literally met her Prince, but will she be too blind to see the good thing that is staring her right in the face?

In the game these individuals are playing, there are no "Get out of Jail Free" cards to cash in. A price must be paid. So, for those of you who thrive on those Jerry Springer moments that help make our everyday life experiences seem not so bad, this novel is a must-read. I compare the laughter I experienced while reading this novel to the contractions I endured during childbirth-intense and one right on top of another. In the end, something good came out of both. Weird comparison, I know, but oh so true.

I anxiously anticipate his next release, The Preacher's Son, and am sure that it will keep me a loyal fan of Mr. Weber's
