Rating: Summary: My favorite of the Woodiwiss books. Review: In addition to Woodiwiss' ability to take me back in time with excellent detail, she also moves me to laughter and tears with a dry sense of humor and the ability to share the hopelessly abandoned sensation a woman alone during the Civil War must have felt. It was like being there. And, don't miss her poetry!!
Rating: Summary: magical Review: this was the first romance book I have read, at the age of 11! and it's definitely still one of my favourite. Kathleen is such a wonderful writer, the story is captivating, funny, full of suspense and love. if you really want to enjoy a great book, read this one!!
Rating: Summary: Is this a history book or a romance novel - too wordy!!! Review: This story is too long-winded. It was so boring I couldn't finish it.
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: i agree with lots of people who appreciated this book which was plenty of suspense, which is rare in romance books.the best book of K E Woodiwiss i read because of the sincerity of the characters ,and the historic context.
Rating: Summary: My favorite book of all time! Review: I was just 15 when I read "Ashes in the Wind" and I was instantly hooked! I couldn't put it down and was quite forlorn when it was done. Ms. Woodiwiss is a magnificent writter and I've never been disappointed. Keep writting and we'll keep reading!! By the way, my daughters name is Alaina Rose (so named after my 2 favorite books, Ashes in the Wind and A Rose in Winter)
Rating: Summary: One of Kathleen Woodiwiss's best novels EVER!!!! Review: I'd have to agree...the plot, characters, and prose of this book are extraordinary! You feel each character's sadness and (eventually) their joy as well. You may even find yourself becoming furious at different people in the book for being pig-headed as you, the reader, know EXACTLY how they "should" end up! I recommend this book for reading on a rainy day snuggled up with hot cocoa and a warm blanket. This novel MUST not be skimmed...ere it loses some of the inexpresible warmth and happiness the ending can bring a reader. (Oh..and by the way, Alania's plantation is in Louisiana...not Virginia.)
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! Review: Kathleen Woodiwiss has outdone herself! This book was so full of adventure, history, love, suspense, etc... When I began to read this book, I couldn't put it down! I ended up staying awake all night reading it to the end! I just couldn't put it down. I love Katheleen E. Woodiwiss! She has written the best Romantic novels that I have ever read. I have read all of her books. I have reccommended her books to all my friends who also enjoy her books as much as I. When are you going to publish another book Ms Woodiwiss? Karen Collins
Rating: Summary: "AL" WILL STEAL YOUR HEART! WOODIWISS DOES IT AGAIN! BRAVO Review: Can Kathleen Woodiwiss write anything but the best? Cole Latimer and Alaina are such a unique couple. Brought together under bizarre circumstances, but you know only fate could have managed bringing them together. A couple that truly stayed together through "thick and thin" and perservered. This book brought tears to my eyes with the surprise ending. I only wish Kathleen would come with a new novel, it's been awhile. I've read every novel of hers and every single one was OUTSTANDING! This book is a keeper
Rating: Summary: Serious/funny, twist/turns, love/romance...it has everything Review: Join the turbelent times of the Civil War era, told from both sides. Surprises from the start and predicaments that make you laugh out loud. All this and a steamy romance. What balance!
Most all of the characters come alive. They sparkle and shine, plus they snap at each other too! The book isn't just one, all characters tend to take center stage as they contribute to the plot and the relationship to Alaina, it isn't "just" her story.
Woodiwiss is one of my most favorite authors, she ties the plots neatly throughout the book to be truly enjoyable. The pursuit of love by her characters takes you through their turmoil and developement to be READY for the love that you know they need. With each character it "dawns" on them at a slower speed.
Rating: Summary: I am completely addicted to Woodiwiss ! Review: "Ashes In The Wind" is my favorite. I am surprised there hasn't been a movie made yet! I love the character she can put into her books. My husband also thought I was crazy to enjoy a romance novel. Then he heard me laughing as I read and his curiosity got the best of him. I know he has read this book over three times and all of her others books plus, he wanted them all in hard cover so, who was crazy? My friends and daughters are also Woodiwiss addicted! With all of the history included, you could be reading about your ancestors.
