Rating: Summary: Vintage Bertrice Small!! Review: After I had read the last few books of Ms. Small, I have to admit I was a bit disappointed, but no more! Her newest book is one of the best that she has written in quite a while. The heroine Rhonwyn is a bit different from the usual females that she writes about, but that makes her all the more intereting. Bertrice Small is known for separating characters and then reuniting them but this time things go terribly wrong! I was actually angry that Rhonwyns husband commited such a despiciable act, but in the end it works wonderfully for the story. Long time readers know that Ms. Small loves placing her females in harems, yet this time the harem part of the story is quite short, and important to the conclusion of the story. I will say that this book is not very sensual, especially if you have read "Hellion" and "The Love Slave" but it is still spicy in some parts.I loved the fact that Wales was the setting for this story, and history comes alive with Ms. Small's skillful writing. This book is a bit reminiscent of "The Spitfire" in that just when you think you know how the story will end you are surprised and shocked at the way the book concludes.A definite must read, and it is wonderful to have Bertrice Small writing the style books that her fans have come to love her for!
Rating: Summary: Another disappointment from Mrs. Small Review: All I can say about this book is that is was one of the biggest pieces of junk Mrs. Small ever came up with, the story started out great, as you read on, the so called heroin, which was supposed to be a warrior, always cried and whined, and cried some more (so much for being a warrior)...It was just so badly written, after the first couple chapters the story goes from bad to worse. I used to be a fan of Mrs. Small's novels, but with all this junk she's writing, I don't think I'll be a fan very long.
Rating: Summary: Not one of Small's better books. Review: As a Bertrice Small fan, I enjoy everything she writes. But this one was depressing and disappointing. Even so, I liked the Rhonwyn character -- full of life and energy! And I appreciated the fact that she was an excellent warrior and very athletic!I never warmed to her boorish husband, Edward, and the way he summarily married his milksop cousin after Rhonwyn's abduction really bugged me out. Insult to the injury was added when Edward's brat kid was rubbed into Rhonwyn's face. I thought Rhonwyn's exit from the harem was a little too convenient; never have I read of a head eunuch aiding and abetting the escape of the premier harem favorite. I didn't understand why the formula was changed in this book. I gave it two stars because I'm a sucker for the harem thing.
Rating: Summary: A good attempt at matching her best! Review: Bertrice Small did it again. She came up with a character all women should look up to. She came up with a man all women should look for. Having read all of Small's past novels I would say she did a great job trying to top Skye O'Malley (the character). She must of kept a few hidden qualities aside for Rhonwyn! Just a splash of loving scenes (that all men should read and live up to) and intriguing characters! Check this book out!
Rating: Summary: Another Marvelous Read by an Extraordinary Author... Review: Bertrice Small has done it again, this time with A Memory of Love! Way to go, Bertrice! I was expecting another novel in Skye's Legacy, and was somewhat disappointed to discover that this was not it, however, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really enjoyed A Memory of Love. I definately had to add this one to my 'Bertrice Small Collection'. Rhonwyn urch Llywelyn, illegitimate daughter of the Prince of Wales in 1257 Wales, was both a strong and compassionate herione. Edward's character was somewhat shallow, therefore I was pleased with the outcome. I did wish, however, that Rafe's character would have played a bigger part throughout the story. The character's of Glynn ap Llywelyn and the abbess were wonderful secondary charaters, along with Katherine (I was glad to see that she did have some spirit toward the end!). Thank you, Bertrice, for another wonderful read! I am looking forward to, and most eagerly awaiting, the next novel in Skye's Legacy, which I know will be coming!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, but not as memorable as her older ones.... Review: I did enjoy this book and finished in less than a day and a half. The plot was kind of sketchy in my opinion and next thing I knew we were off to another harem! I've read all of her books and nothing compares to Skye O'Malley which is one of her best characters.
Rating: Summary: Bertrice Small has done it again ! Review: I have to admit...I am partial to the Skye O'Malley/Leslie Family sagas. So, when Bertrice Small writes using characters *not* from this illustrious family, I read with a sense of apprehension. However, this time I was so captivated by the story, the characters and the period in history, reading this book was truly a joy ! My only regret was the book ending---I wanted to know what happens NEXT !
Rating: Summary: Not The Greatest!! Review: I just recently started to read Bertrice Small because I heard she was a great romance writer. The truth is that this is the 3rd book that I am reading by her and the only one that i have finished. I didn't find this one that great of a read either. The only exciting part of this book was the harem thing. Other than that I found it utterly boring. I don't know if I will continue reading her though.
Rating: Summary: Small is back on track Review: I was hesitant to read this book because her last two were disappointing, but I think she is on the up and up again. Her writing was descriptive and the story was wonderful! GO Ms. Small!
Rating: Summary: Memory of Good Books Review: I was terribly dissapointed in this book. The characters were shallow, the plot sketchy, and the romance almost nill. While Ms. Small has an excellent command of history, and writes it well, all of her books are becoming the same. Hero and heroine marry, she is carted off to a harem, has tons of wild sex, escapes and returns to England. Yawn, yawn, yawn. It has become so terribly contrived. Yes, there was a "plot twist" when Rhonwyn returns home, but not one that thrilled me. When a readers buys a "romance" or "historical fiction" (whatever you want to call it), there are certain things you expect (ie the hero and heroine in the begining of the book to be the same hero and heroine at the end of the book), and this did not deliver. The "action" sequences were about as exciting as watching grass grow, and the ending just happens. There is no closure, it's just over. The last few books she has cranked out have all been dull. I love all of her earlier works, but will be much more hesitant to buy her new ones. I just don't feel that I'm getting my money's worth. I have memories of good books, but this will not be one of them.
