Rating: Summary: Romantic, sexy page-turner Review: I grabbed this book as I was leaving for the airport, thinking it was just fluff to read for the flight. I was pleasantly surprised by how well-developed the story was and how appealing the characters were. I got totally involved in the unfolding love story and sexual awakening of Jane Leslie and her aristocrat/warrior lover, Lynx. I thought the parallel story of Robert Bruce and Jory de Warrene was involving and fully-realized too. Usually sub-stories detract, but not in this case.I am a huge fan of all things Celtic/Scottish, so the book satisfied me on all of those historical and scenic detail points as well. (I've been to the Highlands and Islands many times, so I know this was well researched) I don't usually read romance novels, but this was an exceptionally good one -- I'm sure I'll look for more by Henley soon!
Rating: Summary: Another Wonderful Henley Book Review: I have to agree with the other reviewers, this is one of the best of Ms Henley's books. Lynx wants nothing more from Life than to have an heir, although you get the impression that any child would do. Jane comes from a large family and is a healer. Her father is concerned for her and so agrees to Lynx's propsal to hand fast Jand to him. As their love grows so does the conflict around them. A must read book.
Rating: Summary: Loved the title, hated the book Review: I hesitated long and hard before finally giving this book a try. I had never much liked Virginia Henley's work before because it always seemed a step over the line into soft-core porn. But finally the title and the premise intrigued me so much that I decided to give it a try. I should have listened to my instincts. The premise was intriguing. Man desperately wants heir so he searches out a fecund woman. Finds her among the peasants. He proposes that they handfast for a year and a day. If she gets pregnant, he'll marry her. If not, after the prescribed time they'll go their separate ways. The rabbit not only dies, it does so in the name of true love because man and woman fall desperately for each other and live happily ever after. But what did this man and woman *really* fall into? I'll never be convinced they fell into anything deeper than raging lust. Some of the "love" scenes were just short of disgusting. Virginia Henley managed to top herself for raunch. Beyond that, the historical backdrop was awful. Every cliche known to 20th century man was thrown in. As others have noted, medieval people did not "cut to the chase" or refer to "a helluva woman." Unforgivable. I've certainly learned my lesson that one should never judge a book by its title.
Rating: Summary: This is a good love story! Review: I know everyone keeps commenting on the language but no one really knows how they talked back then. I am a European history major and not matter how much I read out of history books, I will never truly know how the people interacted with each other. I like the fact that Ms. Henley's characters express themselves so well because I have read other romance novels where the story was good but the characters could not fulfill their part in the story. In conclusion, I highly recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Rating: Summary: Skipping Pages!! Review: I liked the romantic parts of the book but found myself not interested enough to stick with it through the numerous pages of detail regarding history and politics. I regarded it completely dry and it most assuredly gave no new value to main character development. It was a good way to pass the time but not one of my most favorite books.

Rating: Summary: An Absolute Virginia Henley Originial! Review: I liked this book a lot. I liked all of the characters and I thought it was a sweet love story. Some of the other reviews have not been as positive on the language from that time period, but I think it depends on why you read and what you are looking for. If I am looking for true history, then I pick up a history book not a historical romance. Although I agree the verbage was primarily 20th century, I enjoyed it and do recommend it to those who are interested in light reading with a good romance!
