Summary: Very disappointing.
Review: I did not read this book with an open mind. I was predisposed to enjoy it. How could I not - a contemporary story, a savvy up and coming black woman, etc. Unfortunately, the protagonist was the most unlikable character in the entire book. She was pathetically weak and needy when it came to Max. At the same time she was pig headed, cruel and ignorant with Jon. I wanted to root for her and Jon for the simple fact that he was an evolved male that didn't require a self esteem zap to exist. But, every time she did that idiotic begging thing with Max, I just couldn't do it. I found myself hoping he'd stay with Daryn or go back to his first girlfriend - because he definitely deserved better than Semone. The only one I liked from beginning to end was Jon, and would like to have known more about him and less about the self fulfilling prophetic life of the Harlemites that time forgot.

Summary: This book was just O.K.
Review: I didn't like the main female character in this book very much. She came off as selfish and self-absorbed. It was all about her and I'm surprised the main male character didn't leave her in the 5th or 6th chapter. She had no positive characteristics. She treated the main male character very bad. She was so vain, I'm surprised she had the strength to hold her own head up! She was so totally superficial that I found myself wishing I would "meet her on the street," so I could put some sense into her. The book was just O.K. and certainly NOT a book I would read again.

Summary: A true to life story with an intriguing story line.
Review: I enjoyed the book tremendously. After I finished, I purchased her other book as well. A New Day. Max was a gentlemen of all sorts and someone who kept the story line so real. Ms. Hodge kept my interest going throughout the book. We all know someone like Samone in our lives and this made it all the more realistic. Get this book right away. It is the bomb.

Summary: This was the worst... It's no "Color of Love" that for sure!
Review: I have read many books with "interracial" relationships. From two professional, modern lovers, to Slave/master relationships. By far this was the worth I have EVER read! I'm a black woman and I thought Samone needed a good butt whipping. She was the most unintelligent, weak, stupid, blind woman I've even managed to read about. Why would Jon love a woman like that! I don't even believe she really loves him! If Max wanted her anytime, she would drop her drawers again. Even if she managed to get someone to marry her. Hopefully, not Jon! He's too good for her. No wonder she can't get a husband, who wants someone that needy. Did she ever pay Jon back for the abortion? The only character I really liked was Jon. He should have stayed with Daryn. Maybe she could apprepriate a good man. I have a hard time believing this is a "real" story. All Black women are not that retarded. But then, maybe, Jon is the biggest fool of them all!! Poor guy!

Summary: Finally, I realistic love story.
Review: I have to admit, at first our leading lady was a bit trying. But I enjoyed her trip to Realization Land. She soon finds out that love is not guaranteed, no matter what color you are. I enjoyed this book. It ended on a real note. Ms. Johnson-Hodge is a brillant writer, and has just made a fan in me.

Summary: It was alright
Review: I liked Hodges' book very much. It should have been longer b/c you didn't really know why some of the chracters were so selfish. At first I thought Samone was selfish in her actions but she really did open her heart to Jon. I didn't like how she, like many of us, tried to deny her attraction to Jon. It was a good but the ending left a lot of thins open.

Summary: VERY VERY IMPRESSED!
Review: I loved it. With the author being new her first book being a paperback I was very impressed with her writing style and the way she made her characters seem real - whether you liked them or not - you all know someone like them. I just bought her second book and can't wait to read it. Go 'head girl.

Summary: A Different Perspective
Review: I loved this book and finished it in a day. I thought it was new and refreshing to read about the taboo of black women and white men even though the reverse is no longer so. Samone's character did what many women could not she left a man who wasn't ready to give what she needed. Regardless that everyone thought he was a great man it was her heart that mattered. I'm glad to see an author not afraid to give life a different twist.
