Summary: Romantic and mysterious all wrapped in one.
Review: At first, the story seemed to drag, but once I got past the beginning, it went on smoothly. All of the characters in the book seemed to come alive because I was able to imagine all of the scenes in my head.

This was the first novel I read by Jayne Ann Krentz. I was surprised with all of the mysterious happenings since I was expecting a sappy love story. Even though it was a mystery novel, I still really enjoyed reading Sharp Edges.

I will defiantly tell all of my friends to read Sharp Edges, by Jayne Ann Krentz because I know for a fact that they will be surprised when they find out what happened in the end.

Summary: Enjoyable but not Krentz's best
Review: Deep Waters and Absolutely, Positively converted me into a Jayne Ann Krentz fan and I went on to read her earlier work after those two books, including her Regency romances under the pseudonym Amanda Quick. Her trademarks are intelligent, independent heroines and brooding heroes with dark histories. They usually have names that you don't normally tag to romantic heroes and heroines, like Gideon, Molly and Harry.

In this story, it's Cyrus, a private detective, and Eugenia, a Museum Director. The death of a glass collector on Frog Cove Island bring the two together on official missions that hide their real motives: Eugenia to investigate the death of her artist friend (who was also one of the collector's many girlfriends) and Cyrus to hunt down an ancient artifact that was stolen under his security watch three years ago. Their initial suspicion of each other plays against strong physical attraction, but while there is heat and sexual tension, there's no sense of inevitability that these two characters deserve each other and should fall headlong into each other's arms. The main characters are disappointingly flat and the love scenes seem contrived. Krentz tries too hard to make the characters outwardly different that they end up as stereotypes - the sleek, sophisticated Museum Director and the strong, silent detective with the too-colorful shirts. The novel's redeeming features are the snappy dialogue and the quirky secondary characters.

If you want to start on a Krentz romance, I'd strongly recommend Absolutely, Positively, Grand Passion or Deep Waters. While Sharp Edges is still a good read, it won't warm you up on cold nights.

Summary: Kept my interest.
Review: Enjoyable "escapist" reading. I thought the interplay between the protaganists was amusing. I hope the editor/publisher/author reads these comments occasionally: do you KNOW how many times the word "discreet" was spelled incorrectly?! There IS a word "discrete" but not with the meaning intended by the author! Use a spell-check program if you must but have someone who is reasonably literate read through the final version before publication, please! (Sorry about the diatribe, but I find errors like that very distracting while I am reading). That said, I did find the novel entertaining and will look for other books by the same author in future.

Summary: Sharp Edges
Review: For the first quarter of the book, I thought Eugenia was (to be polite) a witch. She slowly became likeable. All of poor Cyrus's choices in clothing were so tacky. The story had a good blend of romance and mystery. After reading this book and all the talk of glass, I have a serious interest in collecting glass art.

Summary: Good book, but with some annoying quirks
Review: Good story about two dis-similar people who happen to end up working together to provide each other with a "cover". Unfortunately, the author repeatedly called the male character, Cyrus Chandler Colfax, which is fine once or twice, but it went too far. I don't need to know his full name on every other page. She did the same thing for the "ex-Damien March" - - for goodness sake give the man a new name, or find some other way to get the point across. Otherwise, a pretty entertaining book. Great to take on a flight during vacation.

Summary: A White-Hot Passionate Romantic Adventure!!
Review: I have read many J.A.K books and she never fails to deliver a fun, exciting romantic adventure. Here she has two people who on the outside look like they have nothing in common. But, it doesn't take lond to see that deep down they have a lot in common! If you are looking for some great sex scenes, mystery and romances you can't go wrong with this 5 star book.

Summary: fun read, but too superficial, no character growth and depth
Review: I loved hear early books. They were delightful, light, entertaining, but still, her heroines were real people, they had problems and hang ups and they made mistakes in judgment. And during the book, they somehow developped, learned something about themselves, grew beyond some old fears, or so. And the man was part of that growing up. The last few books are getting ever flatter. The story is still delightful, but the women, and I miss this most, they do not grow. The men too, but they still develop more during the book than the women. The whole story feels like a casual affair, not like LOVE. This is not romance for me; romance is a void being filled, a growing up of the whole person.

So, since the last I really liked, "Trust me" (or "Grand Passion" whichever came first), I still find her a fun read, but it gets flatter and flatter in every book and I will probably not buy her next one as a hardcover, it is just not worth that money. Same goes for h! er Amanda Quick novels.

Like another reader, I would beg her: Please, take the time to write something with a bit more substance on the personalities' side. I don't mind formula, I like her kind of formula, she can go on writing that kind of book forever, but make the characters come alive again, give them more flaws and more growth - to me, Aloha shirts are not enough to make someone special.

Summary: Always Wonderful!
Review: I never get tired of reading Jayne Ann Krentz. She is one of the few authors who I can re-read many, many times . The reason for that is her characters. They have sparks, warmth and humor in their conversations and in their sexual scenes. Sharp Edges is no exception. Eugina and Colfax are seemingly ill-suited at first glance but in short order we realize how decieving that first glance can be. As usual, Ms. Krentz has populated her book with quirky characters and rather than that being a detraction I find that to be a comfort in recognizing her style. That is one of the charms of her books and I hope she doesn't change.

Summary: It was wonderful up to her usual excellent standards.
Review: I read this book about 2 or 3 weeks ago and I still pick it up to read my favorite parts. The only question I still have is why the Hawaiian shirts ?
