Rating: Summary: Gripping, exciting and worth the wait! Review: I waited over 4 years for this new book and I was afraid my enthusiasm would prove to be all for naught (pun totally intended), but I simply adored this book. From the first page, Ms. McNaught drew me into the story. I could not wait to find out the "who, what, where, when, why and how" as the tale played out. I even took notes as I went along to see if my theories would prove true or false! The hero, heroine and secondary couple all captured my attention and I enjoyed the details the author put into the story. Through flashbacks I got to know the characters and their motivations. It's impossible for me to talk about the story without giving away any spoilers, but any true McNaught fan will not be disappointed in this novel. The only reason I am unhappy is now that I have finished the book, I have to wait for her next new work!
Rating: Summary: Fairly good Review: I agree with most of the other reviews. I was more interested in the romance than the mystery and that is my clue that something was missing. Mystery, first with me. The only reason the romance was more interesting was that there were 2 going at the same time. Paradise and Perfect were better reads. Get it from the library.
Rating: Summary: Not typical McNaught but still enjoyable. Review: I absolutely love Judith McNaught's novels so I bought this book without even glancing to see what it was about. I was disappointed to discover that it was more mystery than romance. In fact, for the first sixty pages or so, I kept thinking I should have waited for the paperback version. Fortunately, I hung in there. Once I accepted that this was not going to be one of McNaught's typical love stories, I focused on THIS book and began to enjoy it. The characters were likeable and well developed. In her usual style, McNaught made me care about what happened to them. I felt the ending was a bit rushed but it didn't spoil the book for me. I recommend this book with the caveat that you can't compare it to McNaught's other novels. It's not a pure romance novel, but it's a good way to spend a couple of hours.
Rating: Summary: Review- Someone to watch over me- Great read! Review: Sorry to all of you guys who did not like this book, I loved it! Sometimes it is good to have a little fantasy ! that is why we read. The plot is a bit high for us hard working folk, but just relax, read and enjoy! I loved Michael Valente, he was a bit different from the regular knight in shining armor and he deserves Leigh in the end. Great Book! I could not put it down and I have read it twice since my purchase.
Rating: Summary: Someone to Watch Over Me Review: Want a good read - this is it. I thought it was a very enjoyable book. It was one of those that you keep turning pages on, but don't want to end. The storyline might be somewhat contrived, but still highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: "Achingly poingant" Review: With the long delay and the change in my reading tastes, I was not dissapointed in Ms. Mcnaught's latest book, but only because my expectations were of a sappy, mediocre read, heavy on sentiment and light on plot. I felt that this book fluctuated between a mystery and romance so much that it did not do justice to either genre. Many romance authors, and some mystery authors, can successfully combine romance and mystery, however I don't believe Ms Mcnaught is one of them. I can't quite understand all the hoopla about keeping the hero a secret, when it was obvious from the first couple of chapters by Ms. McNaught's desciption (also more detailed than others)of the hero. The first few chapters read pretty fast and I thought the book had promise, but after chapter after chapter of "aching" and "poignant" moments it really started to drag. Without going into too much plot detail, I will say that while the heroine was likeable, her rush into "new" love was so fast you have to question her feelings for her husband. Also, some might say that the way the hero kept tabs and looked after the heroine over the years was romantic and sweet, I found it kinda creepy. He didn't seem like so much a hero as he did a stalker. My advice...save your money and check it out at the library.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put this one down! Review: I thought this book was awesome! I have read every one of Judith McNaught's books and this one was wonderfully written and a real page turner right until the end. You will not be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: This Book Was Wonderful!! Review: I have just finished reading Someone To Watch Over Me and I loved it!! It was a great mystery and romance novel. I read all of Judith McNaught's books and this was one of my favorite. The characters were great. I hated to see the story end.
Rating: Summary: Sophomoric effort Review: I had a very hard time getting interested in this book. It was flat. Also unbelievable in parts. This author's books used to leave me with a memory of what the book was all about. When I finally closed the book I never thought about it again. There was nothing memorable about it at all. Certainly it was not one of her better efforts. A grave disappointment for such a good author. Bad hair year is the only defense I can come up with.
Rating: Summary: Worth the wait... Review: I completely disagree the reviewers who disliked this book, and I am ususally quite hard on my authors. I will admit that I was apprehensive about buying this book because (a)I had to wait so long for it and was afraid it would disappoint me. (b) I was afraid of another NIGHT WHISPERS, which did not live up to my opinion of this author's past efforts at all. However, I LOVED Someone to Watch Over Me. It was romantic, msyterious, dramatic...everything I love in a JM. It was a romantic suspense in the truest sense because the romance and love stories came first. The main characters were wonderful and the secondary characters were a joy to read. I dialogue had me sighing and laughing out loud. And the mystery was just that, a guesser. A regular who-dunnit. I loved it...and I suggest you try it for yourself if you are a JM, or new to JM, because it seems all thesde reviews are a very mixed bag. I am very sad that the other reviewers gave up who the hero was, because that in itself was not given away and should not have. It was, and should be, a complete surprise.
