Rating: Summary: Wait for the paperback.... Review: I was so excited to get this novel. Perhaps my expectations were too high but I found this novel very slow and actually a bit boring. While I liked all the characters I never felt apart of their stories. The secondary characters are definitely the best part of the story.I definitely recommend waiting for paperback to buy or maybe even just borrowing it from a friend. If you want to read a contemporary Judith McNaught book pick up Paradise.
Rating: Summary: A British Reviewer Review: Judith McNaughts new novel is a good book but it's not great. Quite simply there is not enough depth to the two main charecters of Leigh and Michael. So much more charecter building could have been done especially on Michael who was the most intriging of all. Not enough was made of his love for Leigh at a distance over time, or how he had succeeded to the top. There was far too much written about the detectives falling in love, so it felt that Judith was writing two average love stories in one book. The book lost focus on whose love story this really was. It could have been spectacular like Perfect and Paradise, instead it was ordinary like Tender Triumph and Double Standards, but I'd still buy it as it was a good read, and it is a Judith McNaught book after all. Let's hope the next book will not take so long and will be to the standard we know Judith McNaught can reach.
Rating: Summary: A VERY LONG STORY Review: I was disappointed in this book, because it took so long to get really interesting. I do not think I will be passing this one on to my friends like I normally do with my books.
Rating: Summary: Very Dissapointing Review: Being a huge Judith McNaught fan, I went out and bought it the week this book came out, only to be extremely dissapointed. This is the first time reading one of her books that I was able to put down, and reluctantly pick back up. I found myself skipping ahead pages hoping to find the story get more interesting. I'm still anticipating her next book, but I hope it's a lot better than this one.
Rating: Summary: A slight disappointment, but still entertaining... Review: Judith McNaught is my all-time favorite author. She can weave a tale unlike any other. The emotions she can invoke are unmatched and soon you find yourself so wrapped up in the story that you are one of the characters, too. For any of you reading this, I suggest reading all of McNaught's works because she is absolutely wonderful. I have been anticipating this book for quite sometime now. Unfortunately, I had high expectations for this book and the book didn't quite meet them. From any other author, I would have given this book 5 stars, to be sure. The story seemed a bit predictable, and rushed. It was highly entertaining, but it didn't have that 'spark' that is the trademark of McNaught's work. I enjoyed the secondary story between McCord and Sam much more than the main storyline. Their story seemed to be written with more passion and conviction. I think that the book industry is too saturated with romantic thrillers. I really think that they take away from the development of the characters because they focus so much on 'solving the crime.' I believe that Judith McNaught is too terrific of an author to slip herself into that category.
Rating: Summary: Slow at first but well worth the read. Review: To be quite honest, I didn't think JM was going to pull the book together. It is a slow read until about 160 pages in, then she starts bringing all the characters together. Leigh Kendell Manning has the perfect life and the perfect husband. Everything starts to go wrong when during a snow storm, while on her way to meet her husband in the Catskills, she wrecks and falls into a revine. She is taken to the hospital, where, when she wakes up, she discovers that her husband is absent from her bedside. The police are called and so enter Dectectives Shrader and Dectective Sam Littleton. They start to investigate and discover an unsavory man, Michael Valente, has recently entered the Mannings life. Logan Manning, Leigh's husband, was trying to start an business relationship with Valente, which is why he invited him to a party the Friday before he disappeared. Leigh was not happy to have a man with a jaded reputation at her home. However, she will soon find out that the man she dislikes is the man whi once saved her life. Logan is found murdered about a week after the accident. The police are trying to blame Leigh and Michael Velente for it. Dectective Littleton does not agree with the assessment that Leigh is involved, but she follows the lead of her superior McCord. As the evidence starts to accumilate, Leigh and Micheal discover their connected past and build a new relationship, while Mccord starts to see inconsistancies in the evidence against Valente. It is also apparent to see the attraction between Littleton and Mccord. Follow the trail to the killer and see how these relationships turn out. You will definately be pleased with the end results. Please do not give up on this book because it is so slow to start. It is worth the read.
Rating: Summary: Huge Fan Review: I'm a huge Judith McNaught fan, and have waited impatiently for the past few years for this book to finally be released. I have to admit that it is not her best work, but it is definitely a good book. Judith is an amazing romance writer. She is able to draw you into her characters and make you feel what they are going through. By the end of the book you care about them like they are your own friends or family. From Whitney My Love to Perfect to Night Whispers I've felt a connection with all of her characters. The connection wasn't competely there in Someone to Watch Over Me. What would be nice is for Nicky DuVille to have his own, full length story.
Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: I really enjoyed some of her prior books, but this one really falls short of expectations. I wish she stuck to what she was best known for (she was my romance comfort read). Maybe, she hopes to broaden her horizon and attract more readers who enjoy lots of suspense/mystery along with romance thrown in as a bonus. Sorry, this wasn't for me. I don't think I'm reading her next one.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: As a fan of McNaught, I felt after such a long wait for her next book, Someone To Watch Over Me was very disappointing. I felt that there was too much descriptive narrative going on....the character's got lost in the mystery, there was two little of the love story. And somehow the main character's got lost in the story. As I read the book, the most important thing that kept popping into my mind was the mystery and not the love story behind the main characters....I was also left with the feeling that the supporting characters were really the main characters. Hopefully, her next book will be up to par with "Paradise" and "Perfect".
Rating: Summary: A Waste of Paper Review: This book was just awful. The characters drifted in and out of the story and the reader ended up never knowing any of them. Who were the main characters anyway? If JM intends to write another book, perhaps her publisher should suggest an outline. Maybe we'd get a story that made some sense. I don't think I would have finished this book, but I am a big fan of early McNaught so I thought for sure there would be some substance at the end. No such luck!
