Rating: Summary: Wonderful ! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book! after reading some of the negative reviews, i just had to send this in. I think it was just what you expect from Judith McNaught and well worth the wait! i could not put this book down.
Rating: Summary: Needs to be unabridged Review: I read this book, it was the best book I have read in a very long time, But we listen to audios at work so I wanted to share this wonderful book with my co-workers. It is only in abridged so I bought it. They totally butchered it they left so much out it really ruined the entire book. Very diapointed in OKC
Rating: Summary: One of McNaught's finest. Review: I've always held the highest regard for Judith McNaught's writing. I think she is one of the very best in talented writers. And she didn't let me down with "Someone To Watch Over Me". I read the book in 1.5 days because I simply couldn't put it down. I think Valente had me completely mesmerized. But I'll have to admit, I was equally pleased with Samatha and Mack and the way that relationship evolved. More than this, the romance built in such a way that you could feel the characters falling in love with each other. And the suspense... well, I guess I read too much because I had it just about figured out before I got to the end. Still, the story was great, the writing was wonderful and as usual, McNaught didn't let me down. I have to respect this author's ability to write a story about politics that runs so true to life. I wonder how she got to be so smart. I have to say that I will highly recommend this book to my friends for future reading. Thanks, Judi. I'm looking forward to the next novel. Keep going.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding! Review: I've been a big fan of Judith McNaught since her first book, Whitney, My Love, and impatiently look forward to reading anything she writes. This book was worth the wait. While there may be a few minor stretches when it comes to the plot, this is a very well-written and suspenseful book. **WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD** Personally, I don't find it that extraordinary, as some reviewers do, that a widow who had incontrovertible proof that her deceased husband was a louse would immediately fall for someone who had adored her for years and was everything she thought the louse was but wasn't. However much Leigh may have loved Logan, she knew he had betrayed her in the past, and while she may have chosen to stay with him, relationships are never quite the same after a partner strays. And the reader was given further clues about their lack of intimacy and how Leigh was the person doing all of the maintenance in the relationship. So all of the sudden, Leigh realizes that the person she was in love with didn't exist, and while she may grieve for her lost ideal, it wasn't real. Faced with that realization, love can vanish in an instant. So enter Michael Valente, one of McNaught's best heroes to date. In fact, while there are a great many things to like about McNaught's writing, I find her compelling male characters to be her best strength. She has the ability to capture what most women want in a man -- strong without being a bully, tender without being a wimp, and reliable without being a bore. In short, a real, fascinating man who is capable of completely loving and appreciating a strong, successful woman without trying to control her. Sigh. Add to this the excellent, vibrant, and well-developed secondary characters (the romance between the detectives was also quite good, and even the least-mentioned characters come alive) and the frequently humorous interplay between them, and you have a fine book. Yes, it takes a while to develop, and you don't know exactly where it's going in the beginning, but that's part of the enjoyment. In short, great read, and highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Someone To Watch Over Me Review: I have been waiting forever for Water's Edge, and I finally realized that Someone To Watch Over Me was the book I had been waiting for. I have all of Judith McNaught's books and I feel this one was not one of the best. I kept wondering why several characters from other novels appeared. I know what their characters were, but I couldn't really connect to them. Overall this book was okay. I am already waiting for her next book, I know it will be good.
Rating: Summary: An author who always entertains Review: Leigh Kendall had it all: a successful stage career, a husband who adores her; an apartment in Manhattan that covers the entire floor of a high rise building. She is all set to enjoy a romantic weekend with her husband Logan, when she heads out into a winter snowstorm that quickly turns into a blizzard. She is nearly killed in an accident when her car plunges off the road, and when she wakes up in a hospital Logan is not only not in the room, but not one knows where he is. Leigh is seriously injured, alone, and about to find out that Logan's plans for the future were quite different than hers. She turns to an old friend with an unsavory reputation only to learn that he is more dependable than the husband she thought she knew. Throw in a stalker, a couple of murders, and the FBI with a vendetta agains Leigh's friend and protector, and you have a great story for an overnight read.
Rating: Summary: Finally Another JM Novel!! Review: Since I am a huge fan of this author I was obviously looking forward to her newest release especially since it has been several years since she has had a new book to offer! With that said if you are an old fan of this talented author this book will be a large departure for you from what you have come to expect from JM. With this book JM has taken a turn to the Romantic Suspense genre that is now so popular. A young broadway actress Leigh Manning is involved in a horrid accident on the way to her husbands new mountain retreat. When she wakes she is in the hospital and no one will tell her where her husband Logan is. Logan has disappeared and no one can find him. He has not called his wife, and she has no idea where he is. The police have been called in to investigate not only the accident, but the missing Logan. There are some things that are not adding up and the police start to begin to think that maybe Leigh may be involved in his missing act. Then he is found dead and there are not more questions. Who killed Logan Manning, and why. Leigh can't believe that her husband is dead, but the more that she learns about her husband during the course of the investigation the more she realizes that she did not know her husband at all. Then a man from her past Michael begins helping her. She finds herself drawn to the dark, handsome man with a shady past. Despite the fallout from getting involved with Michael, Leigh throws caution to the wind and follows her heart to the one man she should have always been with. Together they face off the press, police, and the one person who has vowed to make Michael's life a living nightmare. This book is more of a mainstream novel then romance novel. The secondary characters in the form of the police investigators are great and the second storyline revolving around Mack and Sam is just as entertaining as the main storyline. This is not typical JM story, and the character formation is much different from what you are going to be used to regarding this author. At times the story was a bit slow, but overall it was still worth reading. Some old friends from her earlier contemporary romance books are mentioned but don't play a large part in the book. The suspense in the form of who killed Logan, and Leigh's stalker is not all the suspenseful and point in fact the stalker storyline is just about forgotten. If you are new to JM take a look at some of her older books such as "Something Wonderful" or "Whitney My Love" to get an understanding of how this author has changed. Still overall this was a good book and I am glad to see Ms. McNaught is back to writing entertaining books.
Rating: Summary: Welcome Back Review: Welcome back Ms. McNaught.... I have been waiting impatiently for this book. Ms McNaught is without question one of the best authors our there in her genre. I really love her historicals....I am in the majority with Whitney My Love being one of my all time favorites, but she has successfully made the transition to modern day romantic suspense with this novel. She fleshes out her characters and really draws you into her story line. I am sorry to hear of her personal losses as I am sure all of her fans are. Now that you are back please keep them coming Ms McNaught....the world is definitely a better place when I have a new book by you to read.
Rating: Summary: JM really jerked her readers around with this book Review: While I have enjoyed some of her other books, this book's plot was generally not well connected. I agree with the previous reviews, this is not Judith Mcnaught's best work. For anyone who doesn't know, this book was supposed to be titled "Water's Edge" I really did a lot of searching before I realized "Someone to Watch Over Me" is "Water's Edge". I feel the author and publisher could have made that a lot clearer. I spent a lot of time looking for the non-existent title "Water's Edge". It seems obvious Judith Mcnaught is not up to writing a time travel book at this time in her career. If you like time travel try "Outlander" by Diana Galbadon and books by Constance-Oday-Flannery.
Rating: Summary: if you are an old fan = 3.5 stars Review: I have been reading romance for a long time, this author is my favorite author of all time!! That said, this is not her best.. for that see Whitney My Love. This novel did one wonderful thing. I have begun to re read all of her past works. So.. if you are new to McNaught.. oh you have so many hours of wonderful reading. If not, well, enjoy a little reference to some old friends but you will complete your read in about 8 hours - not the depth of charaters from the early novels. While you will make friends with some new characters, don't expect to have that same desire to meet them again in the next installment. Happy Reading.
