Rating: Summary: Love this book! Review: Someone to Watch Over Me was the first book I'd read by McNaught, and it got me hooked. I thought it was awesome! Perfect by McNaught, is an all time favorite now, but Someone to Watch Over Me is right up there. I just loved Michael Valentine, the love scene is just magical. Remember When is also a good one.
Rating: Summary: Pleasant read....ending a disappointment Review: I have read all of McNaughts books, and my all time favorite is 'A Kingdom of Dreams'. I haven't really gotten into JM's comtemporary novels, but I like her work enough to wait for paperback editions. This novel was exciting in the beginning, but the excitement started to fade in the middle of the book. The ending was not as much of a shock as I wanted it to be. Actually, I enjoyed Sam and Mac's relationship more than I did the main characters. Maybe if JM spent more time explaining Michael's infatuation with Leigh in the earlier years, I could understand why their relationship came together so quickly in the present story. Also, the stalker storyline was not satisfying whatsoever; I wish JM did more with it. The begining of the novel was a more 'edge-of your seat' type of story, but then becomes dry and meatless in the middle and end. All in all, I liked the storyline, but I didn't feel Leigh and Michael's relationship was feasible.
Rating: Summary: a big disappointment Review: I'm a big fan of Judith McNaught's historical romance novels (Whitney My Love is my favorite romance novel of all time), so when I read this novel, I was very disappointed. The story was very slow and the characters seemed to lack personality. I think I'll stick with her historical romance novels and stay away from her contemporary romance novels. For contemporary romance, you can't beat Nora Roberts and Linda Howard.
Rating: Summary: 3 1/2 stars actually.... Review: I'm a HUGE Judith Mcnaught's fan and had waited most impatiently for her latest book. What I love about JM's writing is the ease of the flow of the story that'll engross you totally. Also, some of her past works notably; Paradise, Whitney My Love, Once and Always, and A Kingdom of Dreams, I feel, captured the essence of true love perfectly. I was touched by many of the tender scenes between the characters. What I liked about her books were also the little things that the characters did for each other. These details made you feel more deeply for the characters. After a long period of waiting for STWOM, i was kinda disappointed. The ease of writing was there, the ability of JM to draw the reader into the story was there, the little details were there. However, I felt that something was just missing. I could not 'feel' for the characters. Maybe it was somewhat the style of writing. This, though commendable of JM to break the mould of her writing, was to me disappointing especially after all the anticipation. The hero just did not soften my heart and sweep me off my feet, though he was certainly sweet at times. For a thriller/romance it was not really thrilling tho' the romance aspect was rather well-written. So readers looking for a thriller should probably look elsewhere. However, I felt that this book was better than Julie Garwood's thrillers (Heartbreaker, Killjoy). JM should probably write more of 'pure' romance books because this is where she excels! JM remains one of my fave authors. Still highly anticapating her next book. From the description its sounds great. Though I hope it'll not take that long to be out. =)
Rating: Summary: good read Review: I just finished reading this book last week, and I enjoyed it. It wasn't your typical Judith McNaught, but in my eyes she can do no wrong. I think she did a great job making an attempt to broaden her base by writing more of a suspense novel instead of romance. But she did manage to get the romance in there, and it wasn't forced like I was afraid it might be. I really enjoy Mary Higgins Clark, so this was a nice return into that kind of book. Devour every Judith McNaught book you can, because no matter what style she decides to write, you'll enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I laugh and cried when reading this book i stayed up all night just reading this book i love the way she wrote Michael and Leigh's love story i just loved it! To anybody looking for a good story that has murder love suspense and comedy all rolled in to one, to read; READ THIS! this is book it deserves 10 stars not five i don't want to give the book away but trust me when i say BUY THIS BOOK AND NEVER GIVE IT AWAY!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Disappointing in the Extreme Review: To Anyone who gave this book 3 stars or more, you must not have very high standards when it comes to reading material. First, the title is unoriginal (Mary Jo Putney has a book by this title, which was more enjoyable. I highly recommend it). Second, it took forever for this book to come out and it's understandable that sometimes circumstances happen beyond the author's control. But seeing as how she had over 2 years to write this dribble, I expected better. I couldn't get through even the first 10 pages before I gave up. The characters were so one-dimensional as to be unbelievable. Come on! What police captain would send two homicide detectives to investigate an automobile accident? The dialogue and interaction between the characters was flat and boring. At least I had the foresight not to spend my hard-earned money on it. Thank God for libraries! I'll stick with her historicals, but any future suspense? No way. Judith, stick to what you do best. Whitney, My Love is one of THE BEST books ever written, IMHO.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not the best Review: Though it pains me to give only three stars to ANYTHING that Judith McNaught writes, I have to consider this book with the other books that she's written. She is my favorite author, she wrote my all time favorite romance novel, and I waited anxiously (as I'm sure many did) for this book. I wasn't necessarily disappointed, because it was a good book. However, I'm so used to the characters that STAY with me, that become a part of me as well - like Whitney, Meredith (from Paradise), and Julie (from Perfect). Don't get me wrong - these characters are good, the story is entertaining, and it's a good read. But when I put the book down, the characters didn't jump out of the pages and follow me, like her characters usually do. I wait anxiously for the next book.
Rating: Summary: Impressive! Review: I have waited for what seems like a lifetime of this book. It was well worth the wait. The romance was so beautiful that I literally had tears in my eyes. I have not cried during a book since Matt and Meredith and Julie and Zack. This book was truly exceptional and I loved every word.
Rating: Summary: I prefer the genre of historical romance Review: I love Judith McNaught's writing when she is writing romance novels. I am just not a big fan of the mystery genre. The mark of a good Judith McNaught book to me is that I am unable to put it down and am reading into the wee hours of the morning, laughing aloud and crying. This book did not have that affect on me. (For any new fans, my favorite book of Judith's is the original Kingdom of Dreams.) Although, I did not care for this book much, if you enjoy the mystery genre better than romance, then you will probably enjoy it.
