Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: After waiting forever for this book to come out, I was hugely disappointed. I found it hard to believe the romance between the two main characters after some of the plot developments and Leigh, the female lead, never made me feel anything for her. Instead, I found the romance between secondary characters Mack and Sam to be more entertaining which is why I gave it 2 stars. Ms. McNaught makes reference to Matt and Meredith Farrell of "Paradise" frequently, which you are better off reading, or better yet, pick up "Perfect" again for a REALLY good read!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable but wait for the paperback Review: I was disappointed. I was waiting for Ms. McNaught's new novel but found it missing something. The novel was very slow to start, too detailed and was written with flashbacks that detracted from the flow of the story. The mystery ended abruptly with a self-revealing villian. I found the romance between her two main characters (an actress with a murdered husband and an unjustly convicted ex-con billionaire??) jumped forward so quickly it was hard to believe. The secondary romance more important than it should have been. As in previous novels Ms. McNaught tied the story to characters from her previous books, but this time the reader doesn't know or understand the connections between these characters and those in the previous books. It was an enjoyable read, but I wish I had waited for the paperback.
Rating: Summary: Best Book Ever Review: Judith McNaughts new book Someone to Watch Over ME is the best book I have ever read. She keeps you wanting more and she just tells the best stories. I consider her one of the great 21st century story tellers. She writes about strong, smart characters and her wit and humor are addictive. I couldn't stop turning the pages!! I think Someone to Watch Over Me is for anyone looking to be taken on a journey.
Rating: Summary: JUDITH DOES IT AGAIN! Review: No body can tell a story like JUDITH MCNAUGHT! She takes you into the story as if you are one of the characters and you become so involed with each one, as if they are your friends or foes. I found myself telling Leigh to be strong, they would find her husband safe and sound. Little did I know, everytime you think you have it figured out, a new twist happens. Everyone that I have talked to (and I'm talking about over 50 men and women) have all said the same thing, "They didn't think she could write a better book than NIGHT WISHPERS, but she did. This is a winner, surely to make the New York Times Best Seller List quickly. Hurry and get it before it is sold out as it is in some areas already.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing after a long wait Review: I am a huge fan of Judith McNaught's and have been checking Amazon.com religiously for the publish date of "Someone To Watch Over Me". I don't purchase many hardback books but I make an exception for McNaught and this time I have to say that I was disappointed. For the first 200 pages I kept checking to make sure that McNaught did indeed write this book. It reminds me of a Mary Higgins Clark novel. I enjoy Clark but I was expecting McNaught's "Whitney, My Love" or "Paradise" characters in this book and it didn't deliver. I purchased this book intending to curl up with a steamy but substantive romance novel and instead was anxious to be done with it.
Rating: Summary: My favorite all-time historical romance author Review: Judith McNaught is my all time favorite author. Maybe, because I love historical romance, that I feel the way I do about this book. No one and I mean no one can write a better historical romance then Judith McNaught. If this is the first book you have read by her, please, please, read her historicals (Whitney, Kingdom, Wonderful, all of them) When you read one of her books, you feel the intense emotion. You find yourself inside the skin of each character. You cry in sorrow, and joy. You laugh. There is always suspense but mostly you feel, really feel, what she is writing. She writes wonderful dialogue. You are taken away from your everyday to another place. In this book, you do not connect with the characters. The plot is the main focus, the characters are second. I love Judith McNaught. I crave a new historical novel by her. I thought this was to be a part historical when it was to be titled Water's Edge. I waited for this to be published. There are a few moments when you feel the characters emotions but not enough. I have read all of her books, both historical and contemporary. After reading all of her novels, I have been searching for another author, craving for her depth, emotion, humor, intrique. Please read all of her historicals, even if you're not into them. This is a different world now. I can see cop shows, movies, etc. any night of the week. I want to sit down, get away from the news/tv, go to another place. Her other books do exactly that. I wish I could have given her 5 stars. I love her books. Maybe it's just me. Not crazy about contemporary. And pains me "not" to be crazy about this book.
Rating: Summary: Good but not her best Review: I am a big fan of Judith McNaught, however this was not one of her best. It was a quick read and good but I never got emotionally involved with her characters. I usually go through the range of emotions while reading her books but I didn't with this one. The romance between the secondary characters seemed more believable than the romance between Leigh and Michael. Their romance happened a little too quickly considering how much she claimed to have loved her husband Logan. It's is worth reading but not up to par with her previous novels.
Rating: Summary: Not vintage McNaught, but still better than most Review: Although this book is not up to the standards of Paradise and Perfect, it's certainly better than Night Whispers or Remember When. That said, it does not have the emotional depth of McNaught's earlier books, and, although I polished it off in two days, I don't feel the lead characters will stay with me as other McNaught creations have in the past. But, mediocre McNaught is still far better than the best efforts of many other major authors.
Rating: Summary: Someone To Watch Over Me Review: I was afraid to read this book because I was afraid that it wouldn't live up to my expectations. I shouldn't have worried. Ms. McNaught didn't just meet my expectations - she surpassed it. I can't say more without giving anything away but I can tell you this: Someone To Watch Over Me made me laugh, made me cry, made me scream in both surprise and excitement. There were times when I would just be lying on my bed, clutching the book to my chest, saying "Oh my God" over and over again because of a scene I had just read.Do yourselves a favor and buy this book. NOW. Note for future reviewers: Please refrain from revealing important details (such as who the hero is) in your reviews. Think of the people who have yet to read the book. Thanks.
