Rating: Summary: Pleasant but lacking Stewart's usual mystery and suspense. Review: A quaint story of a young widow who uncovers the secrets of her childood past by helping her ailing grandmother recover mementos hidden in a cottage they had once lived in for many years. While engaging, it was predictable and offered none of the ususal suspense or true romance found in the early Stewart novels which so captivated me as a young girl.
Rating: Summary: Mixed emotions Review: After the truly awful "The Prince and the Pilgrim" I really hesitated to read this one as I felt Mary Stewart was past her prime and had lost it. This book, however, is a mixed blessing. It starts out well, much in the manner of her earlier suspense novels which I much admired and enjoyed (and still do, I re-read them regularly even now, 30 years since I first read one). However about 2/3 of the way through the books it peters out to a very mundane ending. I would rate the book 4 stars for the beginning and 1-2 stars for the ending, so gave it 3 overall as an average.

Rating: Summary: Comfortable Review: Her earlier books were better. This one was still good and what I would consider comfortable. I don't think I'll be reading this one as many times as I have read her earlier books such as The Moonspinners, My Brother Michael, and Airs Above the Ground. It's still a good one to buy and keep with your Mary Stewart collection.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not as creative as earlier books. Review: I cut my "reading teeth" on Mary Stewart. I have dog eared copies of all of her books. I liked Rose Cottage, but it didn't have that lovely use of language that marks a Mary Stewart masterpiece. Her method of describing a setting is one of the things I love best about her writing. Remember the description of the Roman Wall in the Ivy Tree? I may not love this one as much as the other, but I still hope she writes many, many more.
Rating: Summary: Good Light Reading Review: I enjoy Mary Stewart very much. Her 3 stories about Merlin are wonderful. Rose Cottage is a good light read.
Rating: Summary: Boring Review: I found this book to be very boring. There were a lot of long details that made the book drag and which didn't seem to be necessary. Not at all like the rest of her books I have read.
Rating: Summary: Simply Pleasant Review: I had just read the book this morning and I find that it was wonderful. It was predictable, but I liked it. If you're looking for a good review, you're reading the wrong one. I only wanted to give it 5 stars. It made me cry, it made me laugh...stuff like that. blah blah blah. All in all, next to "Nine Coaches Waiting," it's one of my favorites. (for today anyway) I may change my mind after reading more of her books. Toodlez
Rating: Summary: A Cure For Insomnia Review: I love almost anything written by Mary Stewart, but this novel was a disappointment. It served a purpose, though, putting me to sleep night after night for a week until I acknowledged that I was bored to smithereens with it and chucked it across the room.
Rating: Summary: Sweet and Romantic Review: I love Mary Stewart books and this one I enjoyed just as much as all her others. My all time favorite is Touch Not the Cat, but I read the Rose Cottage in one night straight. I stayed up until 5:00 in the morning, it was just too good to put down. From the setting of small town life and the diverse characters Stewart creates to the suspense of the mystery of lovely Kathy's mother, I had a lot of fun with this book.
