Rating: Summary: RUN BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!!!!! Review: I read this book and I can say that I wish I had never picked it up! I could not stand the main character and her self-pity attitude. She never stood up for herself she just complained through out the entire book! She did not grow or change as a character. After finishing this novel I wanted to return it and get my money back! It was a pessimistic view on love and relationships in general. I thought that the end might make the book worth reading, but in fact it just solidified my disappointment. It is a depressing book toped off with an annoying main character. My recommendation: If you see this book on a shelf...run the other way!!
Rating: Summary: very good but prefer some more closure to the ending Review: I really like this book. It's nice to know you still have a life after divorce, and there is still hope for romance in the 40's something. However,I would prefer an ending with bit more closure like John would get a female puppy, Sarah would get a male puppy then them two would have puppies play dates and eventually fall in love and betogether... What can I say, I like a hopelessly romantic happy ever after ending...after all, it's a fiction, so one can make their ending much happier than real life. Read the book you'll like it.
Rating: Summary: Fun To Read Review: I thought this book was fun to read. Some of the things in the book remind me of some one else I know trying to date over 30. I think it could have been more developed, but overall it was a fun book.

Rating: Summary: A book about nothing Review: I tried to like this book, I really did. On the surface, it seemed to have all the elements I'd enjoy - dogs, big Irish family, single woman looking for love. I expected a funny, light "chick" book. Instead, I got a long rambling account with nothing really happening and no discernible plot line. The main character, Sarah, is a recently divorced, 40-year-old woman with a big, interfering Irish-American family. Her family being Irish-American added nothing to the story, except that now and then her father would say things like "Sarah, darlin'." Sarah's sister takes out a personal ad for Sarah in an attempt to get her out and dating again. From this ad, Sarah meets John, later she talks to George on the phone but does not go out with him, she subsequently meets Ray without the help of the ad, and also meets Bob, the father of one of her pre-school students. In the meantime, her widowed father is dating an obnoxious, tacky woman named Dolly. Sarah goes out with Bob, she goes out with Ray, she goes out John. Besides her family coming over to her house a lot, nothing especially funny or interesting happens to her. The Seinfeld TV show has been jokingly described as a show "about nothing." However, that show was full of wit, humor and an actual moving story line. Here, this book is basically about nothing, too, except it's REALLY about nothing with no engaging moments and no real final resolution. I found myself struggling through each chapter hoping that something, anything, of interest would occur. Finally, unable to stand the tedium, I skimmed through to the end to see if it would somehow miraculously redeem the rest of the book for me. It didn't.
Rating: Summary: a quick mindless read Review: I will say one thing for Claire Cook: her writing skills have improved immensely since her first novel, "Ready to Fall," which was a pointless series of e-mails from one neighbor to another. Cook's ability to paint characters has grown, and the main character is interesting enough. This is an ideal fast read if you need something that won't use up any of your brain power. It won't make you think and it really won't make you laugh, but you might smile a bit. The depiction of the Irish family (and the trailer-trashy Dolly) is a bit stereotypical and problems are tied up too neatly at the end, but there were two redeeming qualities which kept me reading when ordinarily I would have tossed the book aside: the subplot of Sarah's brother and his marital woes were actually more interesting than the main storyline, and I admit that I honestly didn't know which eligible bachelor Sarah would choose. (Major points to Cook for that: I can usually tell who Mr. Right will be the minute he's mentioned in a book of this genre!) Since I finished this book (I'm a big believer that you DON'T have to finish every book you begin, unless it's for a class!) it must have held my interest longer than the other single-girl-on-a-dating-binge novels out there, so I will give it a generous 2 stars. Pick it up if you need a quick diversion.
Rating: Summary: Great Summer Reading! Review: I've had this book on my "to be read" pile for months, and I am so glad I finally picked it up! It's the perfect summer read! It's light, refreshing and really funny. The main character, Sarah, is extremely likeable and her family is even better! I have seen some reviews who say the characters were underdeveloped and I don't feel that way at all. I think their personalities were very dynamic and it was easy to get a quick perception of them. Sometimes things are better implied, instead of blatant. The best part of the book for me was Sarah Hurlihy's big irish american family. I wanted to be a part of it! All in all, this is a sweet, funny book by a very talented author.

Rating: Summary: Funny and Endearing Review: If you are interested in a light-hearted romantic comedy, this is for you, especially if you love dogs. Since I love watching "Dog Days" on Animal Planet, I found this book especially entertaining. Great for a day when your brain is relaxing and you want to keep it that way.
Rating: Summary: Find a friend in Sarah Hurlihy Review: If you need a fun book that will truly make you laugh out loud, then go pick up a copy of "Must Love Dogs" by Claire Cook. Despite the title, this book wasn't all about dogs. The dogs that show up in this novel are just cute, sweet, lovable characters, much like the people who seem very real. If you're a woman, you'll most likely find yourself in Sarah, the main character. Her crazy family, her hilarious dating escapades, and her job will have you tossing your head back to laugh. You'll quite possibly be saying to your husband/boyfriend, "Hey, listen to this," and even they will cackle. Besides the humor, there are even a few parts that will tug at your heart and make you remember a time when it was once broken.
