Summary: Good beginning, Disappointing Ending
Review: After reading Flowers From the Storm, I was really expecting a lot from this book. The book started strongly and drew me in....Roddy and Faelen were interesting characters even with all their flaws....The end of this book really blew it for me...the explanation for events and actions in the book was seriously lacking even with magic involved, a lot of things were just left unexplained.

Summary: Clever, well-written fluff - what I like from a romance.
Review: I bought this book based on the steller recommendations from other amazon readers. I'm hard to please when it comes to romances - I love them, but I'm a literature major and can't stand badly-written books. This one is pretty darn good. Some of the dialouge is so clever and hilarious that you just can't help but be impressed. I actually prefer books like this, where the marriage itself happens earlier on, leaving other things for the plot to center on. This book did a fairly good job with the mystery, but it's a romance first and foremost. Roddy is a great heroine - I never got sick of her or spent the book thinking how stupid she was, as I do with most romance heroines. If you love romances but too often find yourself disgusted by the sloppy, horrific writing or lack of plots in most of them, this is the book for you.

Summary: Unexpectedly blew me away!
Review: I didn't expect much when I picked this book - although I'd so far read 80% of Laura Kinsale's books and this was one of the final few. The plot they outlined at the back of the book was very badly done in my opinion. I was glad that I disregarded it completely - i just picked it up because it was written by Kinsale. If i'd based it on the back cover, i wouldn't have discovered what an amazing story this is. In typical Kinsale style, the hero is tormented - even more so here .. and the heroine is a beautifully unique character [I personally loved the ESP, magic etc. it did not go overboard]. Definitely recommended, as well as all other Kinsale books especially "The Hidden Heart", "The Shadow & The Star" and "Flowers From The Storm".

Summary: Kinsale is captivating!
Review: I got this book from my mother (among others) and I just finished reading it. From the ingram on the back you'd think this was a typical Court romance. I must say it blew me away. I loved it!

This is the first book I actually read every word from the first chapter to the last chapter. It took all of 3 days! Kinsale hooks you from the very first word. I never had a book do that before.

The characters were interesting and very believable. The way she incorporated magic and esp was not overdone at all. ... I highly recommend this book to anyone who believes in the magic of...love!

Summary: FANTASTIC!
Review: I have been searching for a truly interesting, historical romance author for some time. Finally, a book that does not have the same boring, predictable plotline. From an author to an author, I can honestly say that Laura Kinsale brings a breath of fresh air to historical romance. I could NOT put this book down!

Summary: Well done if you accept the Magic premise
Review: I love this writer's characters, but feel her abilities were squandered by bringing in magic. Anyone can write interesting stories with fairies and ESP- but she can do what others cant: make believable, balanced, interesting characters interact well. What do you need magic for? I had to read "Flowers from the Storm" three times in a row. This one has some good rereadable parts, but... Now, having said that, I would certainly recommend this book! She's great!

Summary: What a Surprise!
Review: I would give this book 5 just on originality alone and the addition of a wee bit o' Celtic magic only rates it higher for me.

This book was in my 'emergency' read pile. In other words, I didn't expect much. I had liked Prince of Midnight, but not in a way that left me mooning afterwards. Then one of Kinsale's most highly reviewed books, Shadow & Star, left me totally flat & I put it down in disgust. So, THIS book just hung around until I had nothing else to read. Well...now I'm going to have to look at Kinsale's offerings with renewed interest.

Not only is the storyline very unique, I really liked Roddy AND Faelen (and yeaaah the heroine was not so uptight!). It is one of the few books I have read that really, REALLY kept me on the edge of my seat throughout even though we knew from the get-go that they were both crazy about each other. So hard not to peek at the back pages! Instead of the usual "Gee does he love her or doesn't he, will the rake be reformed or not?" this story is rooted in "Is he mad (as in insane) or isn't he and do we care in the end when he is so damned adorable?"

I thought it was a very mature, exciting, and interesting story with just enough depth & dark edginess to keep the reader really engaged. Neat, neat story.

Summary: Unusual and captivating . . .
Review: Laura Kinsale brings to the printed page a depth of talent rarely seen in the romance genre. Her characterization of Roddy is exquisitely drawn, and she uses Roddy's "gift" as a wonderful excuse to explore the human psyche. The wonderfully erotic wedding night scene and the mythical and mystical elements of the story are added bonuses. When I first picked us this book many years ago and read the back cover, I almost didn't buy it because of its improbable storyline--how glad I am that I gave it a chance! After fifteen years of reading romances, this book continues to be one of my top favorites.

Summary: Didn't like this one a bit.
Review: Sorry, folks, I did not like this book -- could not get into it at all. I loved "Flowers from the Storm" and thought I would give this a try; but I found it very slow & melodramatic.
