Rating: Summary: One Best Romance Books Ever! Review: I have re-read this story nearly ten times and it still keeps me enthralled. This has to be one of the best historical romances ever written, if not one of the best in the genre period. The story has all the usual medieval tags, ie. forced marriage, wounded (bastard) hero, sweet virginal heroine, and wicked villian (family member), but its the unusual tags of the story that did it for me. Kenric is absolutely to DIE FOR! His emotional turmoil as well as his feelings for Tess vibrate right off the pages. Tess is also not your standard heroine. She is sweetly naive and sometimes really stupid, but you like her and can understand her reluctance. I don't know what else to say about this story except it is one of the best books I have ever read. Sadly, I haven't seen much else from this author. She has two continuation books, one that deals with Kenric's half brother and another that deals with his descendant. They are good, but this book surpasses them by far.
Rating: Summary: Okay, but somewhat disturbing Review: I liked some things about this book (and have read similar storylines for the past 20 years). There were sections that totally had me enthralled. However, there were sections that hinged on emotional abuse and were disturbing. It's one thing to have the two characters go back and forth before deciding that they really love each other (they all share this pattern). The Warlord, however, carries it a bit farther. Tess is locked in a room on three different occasions for sometimes weeks at a time. She is afforded a visitor, but come on. Locked up? Three times?? The author tries to sugar coat it but everytime it happened it really disturbed me. When it happened the last time that did it for me. I finished the book but I have strong reservations against it. The author should have created other ways to handle the situations (other than emotional abuse). If the author had chosen a different route, I would have given it a higher rating. I doubt that I will read other Elliott books.
Rating: Summary: OOOOOOh Sooo Goooood!! Review: I loved the story! Kenric is a great hero whom you want to hug and smack at the same time. He is perfect. Tess has grit and a true woman's heart. Ms.Elliot grabbed my attention and kept it... Even with the Superbowl going on! When I finished it I was ready for the sequel, "Betrothed" Good thing I order both at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Excellent... It was well wriiten, fast paced, and magical. Review: I read a clip of The Warlord in a writing manual and I was hooked. I had to order a copy for myself. I wanted to be Tess and be the one forced to marry Kenric the warlord. I could identify with the charcters and the plot had so many twists that it kept me on the edge of my seat. I've read the book a few times and each time I pick it up, I notice I something I missed that makes the story even more enjoyable. It was the kind of story that is worth reading over and over again.
Rating: Summary: Warlord was wonderful!! Review: I really enjoyed reading Warlord by Elizabeth Elliot, so much so that I couldn't put it down until I had finished the last page. Both the hero and the heroine were fantastic. I urge all to read it.
Rating: Summary: Another good one by Elliott! Review: I recently discovered this author and thoroughly enjoyed this book. In fact, after reading it I ran out and purchased Scoundrel -- which I just finished and which is also excellent. If you want a good romance novel to curl up with, try one of Elliott's books!
Rating: Summary: The hero was insufferable :-( Review: I saw no reason for the heroine to fall in love with a hero that showed that much contempt and lack of feeling. Whenever she did anything worthy, he usually became angry and locked her away. I thought the author left her hero without enough human/humane feeling in her quest to show him as an abused man trying to shut off his softer side. Short of not being beaten, I didn't feel like the heroine got a much better than deal than with the villain.
Rating: Summary: Exciting and fast-pace love story between opposits... Review: I tend to prefer romance with lots of humor and witty dialogue - I guess you can say I like 'light' romance without serious torment. Although the Warlord did not have humor, it was nevertheless an exciting romance story with two dramatically opposit characters. Kenric (love the name) being big, dark, serious, and brutal at times; Tess being soft, petit, and loving. The book is well-written and attraction believable. I did enjoy this book more than Guy's story.

Rating: Summary: MAGNIFICENT! Review: I was utterly captivated by this novel---the first of Elizabeth Elliott's. The characters were so real, I practically expected to meet them when I had to put the book down (which wasn't often, and ONLY when I had to!). Ms. Elliott makes you feel as if you are THERE. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with this book---it's one that I intend to keep and read again.
