This book was one of her best works, taking the reader into a great story of love, deception, and adventure. She captures the reader in her epic tale of a women tring to keep her promise to her mother, of the family secret. Only in her does the story unfold. The only problem with the book is that it starts to fast and everything happens to fast, so reading the book 2 time will give the reader a better understanding of what the book is about. Overall it was a great book. Iris Johansen has done it once again.

Jordan, A.K.A. "The Duke of Diamonds" is an exquisite character refusing to be taken with the unique Marianna Sanders and her stained-glass window creations. Taken from her conquered town by the "DUKE" when she was but 16 years old, she and her younger brother are forced to England, where Jorden promises to keep them warm and safe, But not without a price... Marianna holds the key to an ancient secret, and Jorden, nor the enemy will stop at nothing to obtain it. As the tale heightens, so does the passion between the two. What follows is a deadly Journey back to her beloved fallen town when her young brother is taken by the enemy. What follows is an incredible tale of stubborness and trickery, as the final treck is made to unvail the Secret; unknowing what she may lose if she does. A recommended book for all who enjoy Iris Johansen. It is a superb story which adds a unique fantasy to it, as well as enables the reader to quickly turn the page.

Review: I can't say enough about Iris Johansen's writing technique and the strength of her characters. She doesn't keep the hate - love fight going on page after page as some others do. I give her a ten in her ability to keep me turning the pages and up half the night to finish her unbelievable books. Her creative imagination in all her stories is beyond belief. Thank you again and I won't stop until I have read every one of her books.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: A Disappointment Review: I did enjoy it but not as much as her other books. You get the usual strong and possessive hero and spirited and passionate heroine. But it was not packed with exciting plot twists every other page, like her other books such as Wind Dancer. I was a little surprised that the Jordan and Marianna succumbed to their passions after 3 long years. I found that a little stretched given the intensity of how they felt towards each other. The first half of the book was a bit dull. It was unclear whether Jordan tried to seduce Marianna because of his pent up lust or was he induced by the time urgency to get the Jeledar from her and thought seductive persuasion was the way to go. It was not convincing how the Jeledar could protect Kazan from Napoleon, in the end, it was a little anti-climax. I liked the part when Jordan trailed Marianna to ther destination. That illustrated Marianna's determination, resourcefulness and courage, which earned Jordan's and his troops' admiration and love. Because before that, we only knew that Marianna was a gifted in making stained-glass, had a mind of her own, stubborn and not with a very clear objective what she wanted to do other than protecting Alex and the Jeledar. Overall, I found the plot and character development a bit under my expectation but an enjoyable read nevertheless.

Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Unconvincing Historical Romance Review: I enjoy Iris Johansen's modern thrillers, but I must say that her historical romances do not convince me. This one took place in an unidentified Balkan kingdom, so it is difficult for me to evaluate how accurate its history was. I have severe doubts, however. More importantly, the romance itself did not work for me. The hero annoyed rather than attracted me, his sidekick was too good to be true, and the heroine recovered too swiftly from the extremely traumatic event that sets the stage for the novel. The only character I liked was the heroine's little brother, but he was too peripheral to the action to carry the book. I'll stick to her thrillers from now on.

On and on it went and finally I decided to just stop reading it. I have read other Johansen books and found them delightful but this one was a bit slow for me.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Pleasant reading Review: I love reading the beloved scoundrel, but i couldn't understand what makes or how did Jordan feel lust for Marianna, they hardly know each other except for a few heart conversation. I thought Marianna is going to hide the Jedalar in one of the panel and never knew she's going to blow-up the tunnel. She's a very brave women and Jordan not much of a scoundrel but yet their lovemaking is wonderful and they actually have lust each other although the love comes later..its a good reading Iris.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: A Disappointment Review: I've read a few of Iris Johansen's books, and they were very good. However, I know during that day and age men were marrying and courting younger girls, but I just could not get pass her age she was a child. Gregor and Jordan kept saying that to each other. Even though she was not your average sisteen year old, she possessed a lot of strength and wisdom. Besides the age the book is downright boring. I will continue to buy her books, maybe the next one will be better.
