Rating: Summary: It was OK, but.................... Review: I have read other interracial love stories before and have never been disappointed, but this book was a little disappointing. I had to really make myself finish reading this book because I wanted to put it down by the middle of it. Leslie just really grated on my nerves! "I like him,I don't like him, "I want to be with him,I don't want to be with him" COME ON ALREADY! I understand she went through a traumatic experience and everything but.......... PLEASE!I liked Jordan with exception of maybe he was just a little too perfect. Here is white man that has never dated a black women, he meets her and he falls for her without any reservations whatsoever. I had a hard time swallowing that. I wanted him to have some conflict. I thought Ossie and Julia were more "real" in what they thought of Leslie and Jordan's relationship. I loved Clifford. I'm not saying this was a terrible book, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if Leslie wasn't.......Leslie.
Rating: Summary: And They Lived Happily Ever After Review: I have to say that "Against the Wind" was an extremely engaging novel. I found it hard to put down even after I finished reading it. Being drawn to interracial novels, I was starved for another story of love despite the obstacles. And this book definitely filled my craving. Although I thought that Leslie's character was a bit trying at times, I loved her strong will and determination. And as for "Mr. Perfection", Jordan Saber, I never met or read a more understanding man. Thier passion went way beyond lust. There was a tenderness that stayed with me even after I finished reading the book. You could only assume that with a love like that they must be living happily ever after.

Rating: Summary: What a fantastic story! Review: I have to say to date I have not read a Gwynne Forster book that I did not enjoy. This was a story that was colorless in a sense, I mean the story could have been about any man and woman no matter what color. But one of the important factors here is the aftermath of the tragedy that Leslie encountered. I have to assume, since it was not addressed in the story, that Leslie did not seek any counseling after this incident and trial. So for five long years she carried this fear of someone threatning to kill her. Well as it goes with out saying, lack of Leslie seeking professional help made an impact on her feelings about romance and any other decisions involving men period. Sure it may seem like at times Leslie was in her rare by being unreasonable and senseless but we must realize that her decisions were being affected by her past demons that she had not dealt with at all. So really Jordon, who was a very patient loving man played a significant role in Leslie's recovery. Just think in life how we help each other overcome major incidents in our lives. I think Gwynne Forster wants us to receive this book with the understanding how important it is to clean house of your demons, that love cannot be controlled no matter what color you are and there comes a time in life that you must trust someone. The author has done an extremely outstanding job of displaying such a tender, patient, loving story that just happens to be about an interracial couple but offers so much more than just the issue of race but shows us another illustration of love. I have to agree with Ms Forster, I was in the cheering section routing for Jordon to finally win the heart of Leslie.
Rating: Summary: GOOD Review: I liked the fact that the race issue wasn't the main focus. I didn't expect that. It made them being together seem so normal. In reality they are going to have some issues, but it's not the 60's and times are changing, so if it seemed like the author didn't completly focus on that, that was probably partly why. Jordan's charater was a bit annoying though. H e seemed so dominering but I did love that scene where she lost her virginity. It was really beautiful. Interesting that she would write about a 28 year old virgin. Some of the other love scenes could be alittle corny but I would recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: A book worth not putting down! Review: I loved this book. It's true I can't put it down. Im an advid reader and after Ive read a book three times it gets boring and I skip to the parts I like. But not this book. Ive read it over ten times and I always start from the front. If you want a good curl up, get excited, yell at the leading lady because she won't tell the leading man she loves him, then this is it. These two charaters are people we only dream about. People woth real life problems. And ladies if there was a man that looks like Jordan Saber running around he would be mine for the takiing. Keep up the good work Ms. Forster. Please right another interracial romance. We can never have enough.
Rating: Summary: Tired Review: I might come off as a cheat, but I honestly did not finish reading this book because I could not stand the main characters, Leslie and Jorden, Leslie seemed so friggin' uptight, and the author never really gave detail on how Leslie really looked like, which is kind of a turn-off, because when I read a novel, I like to at least get a visual idea on how the charcaters pysically look, even on the front cover of the book, I'm sorry but the womens shadow looks like a caucasion womens shadow, so everytime I read a quote from leslie I imagined a white women talking.
Everytime I thought about Jorden, I always imagined him being a man in his late forties, because his mentality seems like an old man in a young persons body. I can't say much about this book because I didnt really read the whole thing, but Leslie to me was so dull and rude in a way, like everybody's out to get and attack Leslie only, and the fact that everytime her and Jorden almost had a romantic moment she would get really nervous and brush him, sucked all the romance out the begining of the book, from what I read so far, I understand that Leslie almost got raped, why was she stressing so friggin' much if she didnt actually get raped?????????????
This book to me was terrible, and I'm glad that I took it out from the library instead of actually buying it. Mrs. Foster seems like a very intellegent writer, and I truly believe that this book would have been a hundred times better if she didnt make Leslie's personality so confusing and depressing.
Rating: Summary: An exceptional piece of fiction Review: I read AGAINST THE WIND because of the conflicing reviews here, and because I suspected that at least two reflected negative attitudes about interracial relations. As a man, a sociologist who rarely reads romances, this book surprised me in a pleasant and highly gratifying way. Ms. Forster is an excellent story teller, and her characterizations in this story are nothing short of supberb. I'm wonder if the "reader from Ohio" actually read the book. It is not about race relations at all, and the author avoids that pitfall. As a man, I marveled at the character, Jordan Saber, and wondered how a woman could so aptly show how a man feels and reacts in situations such as are depicted in this book. It's a great read, and I will be reading more of Gwynne Forster's work. I highly recommend it to all who want an intelligent, fast paced and intertaining story.
Rating: Summary: Light weight & Carefree Review: I read it and enjoyed it. It's not a novel that gives you something deep to sink your teeth into, but it is enjoyable if you're looking to relax with an easy going read. It's not the best that I've read...but - I have read it three times. So that says alot for it.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful love story and fabulous writing Review: I read this story until I finished it. The next night, I read it again. I was routing for Jordan and Leslie as if they had been real live people. Sometimes, I hurt for them, especially for Jordan, a prince of a man. He had such patience and such a profound love for leslie. And though she loved him all the way to her soul, her past experiences still gripped her like icicles around a tree. Any woman who had come within seconds of being raped would have behaved as she did. In the end, they truimph together. I don't understand the post by Ronnel of Brooklyn. It bears no relation to the book, AGAINST THE WIND, that I read. I loved this book. It is a great story and quality writing in any genre. Gwynne Forster is a first class writer.
