Rating: Summary: Intriguing Review: Never having read Kat Martin's work before (historical or contemporary), I didn't go into THE SILENT ROSE with any previous expectations. I was hesitant to read a novel dealing with parapsychology, but decided to give it a try. I'm very glad I did. What I most appreciated about this novel is the obviously tremendous amount of research Ms. Martin put into it. Many romances deal with parapsychology so lightly that it is easy to dismiss it as part of the fantasy of the novel. As Devon James researches paranormal phenomenon in order to write her planned book, Ms. Martin shows Devon running into the quacks as well as those whose claims to psychic ability cannot be dismissed as lightly. All of this made highly interesting reading. As a Catholic, I don't put much stock into paranormal phenomenon, but I'm willing to admit that there is much we cannot explain... much that will only be revealed in God's good time. I thank Ms. Martin for asking questions and for showing that there are no pat answers. As for the romance, I found it lovely. Devon and Jonathan had to keep rebuilding trust when first one, then the other of them betrayed it. I especially appreciated that there were still issues in the relationship to resolve even after love was declared. Too often, in most romances, that is the end of the story. "I love you. Oh, I love you, too. The End." But not here. Devon and Jonathan still had to struggle to make the relationship work. I was very impressed with this first novel by Kat Martin that I've read. I'll be keeping my eyes open in the future for more of her novels.
Rating: Summary: This book held my intrest from start to finish Review: Thank you for getting me back into reading. I started this book on vacation in Fort Bragg Ca. and could hardely put it down. With each page came a new adventure in the life of Devon James and Jonathan. I find it interesting that some parts are true. I found that each time I put it down that I could hardly wait to pick it up to see what would happen next. I would recomand this to anyone who likes suppense power and love this book is for you.
Rating: Summary: The most romantic, yet haunting novel I have read. Review: The first paragraph grabs you instantly when Devon James an author from Manhatten and her Fiance stay in the Stafford Inn, where she has the most intense experience both sexually and mentally. She feels a strong force in this house and stirves to find the truth. That is where Jonathan Stafford steps in a wealthy heir to the Stafford fortune and name and will do anything to stop Ms. James from exploiting his family, even seduction. When they both start to care more than what was expected the secrets of their past start to reaveal themselves leaving you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. This with out a doubt is a great book! You will not be able to set it down.
Rating: Summary: tepid romance, boring book Review: The ghost-story aspect of this book was what caught my interest, and I kept reading hoping that it would be brought more into the forefront. Unfortunately, the rather boring romantic aspects of the story seemed to be the main focus. It mostly consisted of the main characters saying "damn you" to each other. Also, what was up with the Japanese mistress and the sex scene in the limo? This type of thing may be standard in Regency romances (substitute "carriage" for limo), but they just didn't fly right in this book.
Rating: Summary: Interesting contemporary Review: The Silent Rose was the first contemporary romance that I've read from Kat Martin. I enjoy her historicals much more. When Devon James and her fiance go to spend a night at a B&B in Conneticut, Devon is unprepared for the feelings and visions she endures during her stay. Determined to find out the meaning of these visions, Devon begins to investigate the history of the home. When Jonathan Stafford is informed that Devon is investigating the history, he will do everything in his power to stop her (it doesn't help that he's a multi-millionaire either!). He'll use everything in his power, including seducing her. Neither Jonathan or Devon are prepared for the love that blossoms between the two. This was a pretty good book, but I found it could have been much better. I didn't think that Jonathan and Devon had the chemistry that Kat Martin's books usually have.

Rating: Summary: Couldn't connect... Review: This book deals with the paranormal - ghosts & such. At first I thought it was going to be really creepy... as it turned out, it was only creepy in a couple of spots. The romance was the main focus of the book & it was ok, but it dragged out a little too much & the 2 main characters had a real habit of doing things that I considered really dishonest... can't say that I'd want the 'hero' in my life acting like Jonathan did (the heroine, Devon, didn't act ANY better). It may have just been my attitude while reading the book, but I couldn't seem to connect with the characters... never got a deep feeling for them. KM has some pretty good storylines - but feelings never seem to 'jump off the page' for me.

Rating: Summary: more romance than I really wanted.. Review: This book was recommended to me because I love a good paranormal story. I was a tad disappointed in the fact that it was more romance involved and only got spooky at the beginning and the very end of the book. The two main characters sort of got on my nerves about how they were so very deceitful to each other, but always seemed to forgive one another for horrible things that they did to each other. That was kind of unbelievable, but then again it is a fiction novel. It was good enough for me to finish the entire book, but like I said I was told it was more a paranormal novel so I kept waiting for something spooky to happen chapter after chapter. If you like just romance novels, then this is for you. If you like a good spooky novel, before reading this, I would suggest you look elsewhere first.
Rating: Summary: AN EXCELLENT BOOK TO BE SURE. Review: This was a very good book to read, kept interest all the way through, and made you feel as if you were one of the charavters. ..GREAT! If you are looking for other romance novels that truly touch your heart, you might try, Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher.I intended to give this book a quick read, but I got so caught up in the story that I couldn't put the book down. From the very beginning, I was fully caught up in the heart-wrenching account of Julie Hunter's battle with lupus and her growing love for Don Lipton. This love, in the face of Julie's impending death, makes for a story that covers the range of human emotions. The touches of humor are great, too, they add some nice contrast and lighten things a bit when emotions are running high. I've never read a book more deserving of being published. It has rare depth. Julie's story will remind your readers that life and love are precious and not to be taken for granted. It has had an impact on me, and for that I'm grateful. "Stolen Moments " which is reminiscent of "Love Story" is written with so much sensitivity that it made me want to cry. Like"Love Story" it is about a dying woman who has found true love. It is the love story of the nineties." It is a spellbinder. One I got reading I could hardly put it down. what terrific writing, Barbara has an exceptional gift!
