Summary: The plot and the Charaters were wonderful
Review: The characters were exelent. At times I really hated Wulgar and at times I had simpathy for him and at times I just didn't know what to think. I especially like the villans. They were done with extra special care. The only thing that turned me off about this book is the fact Aislynn fell in love with a man who continually raped her. That didn't set right with me. I doubt it sets right with any other woman as well if one thinks about it. Think about it here. This man directly or indirectly resposible for her fathers death and ruin of her home land. Now if I were this woman that wouldn't set well with me. The plot was exellent. I loved the twists and turned she provided in her story. It was fun to try and figure out what was going to happen next.

Summary: I too am a fan of K. Woodiwiss
Review: It was one of my first romance books by her I had read. I had a copy for many years before i had literally read it to pieces...I would recommend it highly to anyone...as well as her other works...I had (ok HAVE) the biggest crush in Wulfgar...al I can say is wow!

Summary: The One That Got Me Started
Review: This is the most wonderful, exciting, memorable romance I have ever read -- and I have read thousands. When I was 13, I picked this book up at a garage sale and fell in love. I have not re-read this book in several years, but I can quote the story line verbatim. Rather than relate the story -- which is too enjoyable as a read to spoil by telling it -- I encourage every reader of romantic history to try this book. Like my first lover, this book holds a special place in my heart. Thank you Ms. Woodiwiss for this and all the other fabulous stories that gave young women such pleasant dreams.

Summary: A Romance Must!
Review: This was one of the first romance books I read which got me hooked. The story takes place in the year 1066 which would be difficult to form a mental image of but is made possible through the historical facts and imagery the author provides throughout the story. Although the story can at times be a bit graphic, it is absolutely necessary in order to help the reader understand the people and their culture of that time period. The characters were well rounded and realistic. Wulfgar was written so perfectly credible, he could be a modern day male because of his actions, thoughts, and beliefs. Ayslinn was a heroine that was easy to feel compassion for, support, and in the end, root for. Ms. Woodiwiss has an exceptional talent for writing romance. I have read all of her books ever since and have yet to be disappointed!

Summary: ONE OF MY FAVORITES!
Review: I have practically all of Ms Woodliss books and not just one copy. The Flame and the Flower is my all time favorite, but this is the one that I read the most. Lady Aislinn is strong and honorable. Lord Wulfgar is an example of what a knight could be--fair. If you haven't read this book--please do, all others pale.

Review: Loved it, but Aislinn's a bit too.. dependent for my taste

Summary: The more youread the more you enjoy
Review: This was one of the first real romance novels I have every read---and I did it when I was in the 3rd grade(hope my mother does not see this). But yes, my mother's friend gave her a bunch of books that she did not know what to do with anymore(they belonged to her mother who just died). Knowing that I was a serious books worm, my mother passed them to me.

Amoung them was this book, which was so old..you could crush the pages into dust by squeezing them. But I started reading it and loved it! I loved Aslinn who was very strong and fought back against the people you hurt her family, and Wulfgur, what can I say, he was very facinating. I loved how the two characters slowly came together....desspite thier rather rocky beginning(frankly...I would have hated Wulfgur for life if that were me...but this is fantasy afterall). I especially loved Wulfgurs warming up due to Aislinns influence. Despite their fantastic story..it was still enjoyabnle..and believeable.

While I was reading this book..I lost it sometime, and I lookedfor it for years until HS, when I found it in a bag way int he back of my closet in worse shape than I got it(if that's imagineable). But Ifinally got a chance to read it all the way though..andIenjoyedit even more..since Iwas older and more able to appreciate it's contents. I loved this book..Ican't say that enough. I highly recomend it The day Ifinally had to throw it away because it was turing into a pile of dust, was a sad day indead. Maybe I'll by the new release and read it again(the last 2 pages or so fell out the last time I was reading it..so I kind of forgot the ending...I just made it up. LOL)

Summary: intelligent, well-researched, plausible, moral
Review: This is the first romance novel I've read for a long time. I really enjoyed it! Although I wouldn't place Woodiwiss on a par with Jane Austen, my favorite romance author to-date, I did stay up all night finishing this book! As a Christian, I do not like books which promote premarital sex or any other form of immorality. This book actually promotes chastity, because Aislinn maintains her honor by persistently resisting Wulfgar's passions. Wulfgar's insensitive treatment of Aislinn is only pertinent because of the time period of this story. Otherwise, I would think it is included for the sole purpose of encouraging masochistic fantasies on the part of the reader. Moreover, Wulfgar's character is slightly enobled by his self-control in the beginning, and his attempts to please Aislinn, even though by force. His later repentance for his earlier treatment of Aislinn redeems his character. On the negative side, I found the actions of the black wolf implausible. Toward the end, the plot lapses and then picks up again while tying up loose ends. Some of the loose ends were tied up rather quickly and without sufficient explanation. I would be very interested in a man's view of how Woodiwiss represents men and their feelings. I liked that Woodiwiss included Wulfgar's point of view, and will try to find other novels that show both male and female viewpoints during the story.

Summary: Chivalry at it best.
Review: This was the first novel by Ms. Woodiwiss that I have read. I picked it up at the suggestion of my mother. Once I really got into the story I couldn't put it down. I am one who usually reads the classic romances. I really enjoyed this book. It will remain in my collection of books to re-read in the future.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An all time classic
Review: This is the first romance novel I ever read and is still my all time favorite. The characters were so engaging and the tension between Wolfgar and Aslinn shot sparks!!!
