Rating: Summary: 4 Guys and Trouble Review: This was an excellent novel. I chose this novel to read during my lunch hour, however it was completed before I could take it to work Monday morning. The botherhood of the characters was real. My cousin and I have experienced some of the same events these brothers went through. He is reading the novel now so we can compare thoughts.
Rating: Summary: An all nighter Review: Not since "Disappearing Acts" have I read a book that depicits the male perspective on dating so vividly. There are 4 men who are in the most familiar relationships possible: Mike is with Sharice, a born again Christian; Colin is with Stacy, a woman who does his self esteem more harm than good; Dexter and Denise are only together because of the unborn baby; and Ibn has the "good girl" but is too busy trying to see how many honeys he can mack to realize what he has at home. Their "trouble" is a beautiful and intelligent young lady named Erika aka Bunches-whom they promised their deceased frat brother Trevor they would look after and protect. I commend Majors for taking his time to tell the reader how the couples react to one another. This is what makes the book stand out, instead of reading pages of conversations that don't make sense, Majors adds so much emotion that as you read you can actually visualize interactions taking place. This is a book that will keep you up late at night laughing out loud and not wanting to put it down. At the end you'll wish you had a relationship like theirs. This is one of the best books I've read all year. I plan to start collecting this author's work for he is sure to be around for a long time.
Rating: Summary: An excellent novel. Made me glad I got the hard cover! Review: I picked up this novel because I really enjoyed his short story in "Got To Be Real." I was hooked from the first page, finishing it in one day. A medical student, Erika, is taken care of by four of her late brother's frat brothers, who, amazingly, only have her best interests at heart. This premise alone makes it a must-read. But, just to add to the drama, each of the brothers are also going through their own set of problems with the women in their lives. What truly set this book apart was how real the characters are; one sex is not being dogged out like so many novels seem to do nowadays. This novel is also pretty funny. The scene where the ADs are in full swing had me laughing out loud. I will definitely be buying all of Mr. Major's works in the future.
Rating: Summary: One Guy and His Pen Review: I fell in love with the humorous style of Majors' "Good Peoples" and couldn't wait until "Four Guys And Trouble". I'm happy to say that this follow-up to the Blackboard bestselling debut of "Good Peoples" didn't disappoint. In fact, it kept me up all night reading. The story chronicles the mindstate of four African-American males, and their myriad relationships with each other, their romantic significants, and Erika ("Bunches") the "little sister" (she's now a shapely 24 year old woman) of a fallen compadre that they all promised to look after (one of the four will look a little too closely after her--one of the interesting storylines). Majors does a fantastic job of delving into the male mind, through crisp and on point dialogue. Each page serves as an intro to the heavily awaited page to follow. All said and done, you definitely can't go wrong by purchasing this novel.
Rating: Summary: FUN AND ENTERTAINING! Review: Marcus Majors has done it again, bringing on an even more exciting and fast paced novel about 4 successful fraternity brothers/friends who made a promise to a 5th frat brother (gone but not forgotten), to watch after his little sister, known as "Bunches" and to make sure that her educational and life dreams becomes a reality, and that she doesn't get distracted by the wrong male specie. The 4 frat brothers have grown to love little Bunches unconditionally and like a sister they never had. The relationships that are developed between them all are solid and unbreakable. As the story unfolds, Marcus Majors opens up the lives of the 4 fraternity brothers and their dealings with their girlfriends and acquaintences, giving you so much drama, you'll fall off your seat laughing in disbelief of what is happening. Filled with lots of fun, love and drama, drama, drama, this is definately an enjoyable book for all the read. Marcus Major has great character development and a very good story line, told with realism of exactly what could happen when promises are made and the strength of love moves front and center!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't Put It Down Review: 4 Guys and Trouble is most appropriately titled. These four men are walking talking trouble of the worse kind...Good looking, professional, and compassionate. The men Marcus Major portray in this book are likeable, even lovable with faults in tow. Their "little sister" Bunches grows up and becomes Erika, a sweet medical school student who now sees her lifetime caretakers as more than big brothers. But which one is it that has stolen her heart...I had to find out. This story kept me reading non-stop and I was lost in the world of the four friends, strike that five friends. Job Well Done!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable Review: This book was absolutely enjoyable! I got a kick out of the guys' antics and their conversations. It was like being a fly on the wall at The Boys Club! :) "Four Guys..." reminded me of my days in college when our entire Omega Psi Phi chapter saw to it that I rarely had a date. This was accomplished through intimidation, threats -- and maybe even a few misdemeanors! *wink* At the same time that it was annoying ("I just want a date, dag!!!!!"), knowing that love motivated their actions was always a blessing. I could identify with Erika's love/hate for their overprotectiveness. It brought back wonderful memories of undergrad... *smiles* The only downside to this book for me (and it's a small downside) is that the Ibn character reminded me too much of Amir. When Ibn and Michael (?) went the barber, I wondered how Marcus would handle having "two Amirs" in the same scene. He mainly minimized Ibn's character and spotlighted Amir for that scene... but it still felt like the same character talking. Otherwise, loved it and am glad I left work early to purchase this book on its release date. It was more than worth it and made a great start to the weekend...
Rating: Summary: New and Long Time Authors? Please Take Notes ..... Review: I received an advanced copy as a possible selection for my bookclub. I gotta be honest. I was a little hesitant, since his first book, GOOD PEOPLE didn't move me at all. I gave him another opportunity with GOT TO BE REAL and there he started to redeem himself. With FOUR GUYS AND TROUBLE, I read an excerpt about a week after I got the advance copy of the book. It teased me just enough where I had to put down the book I was currently reading and started this one. Normally being the avid reader that I am, I can read more than one book at a time. No way mister, not this time - every opportunity to read was devoted to finishing this story. Let me say, there's a new and improved Mr. Majors on the scene!! A quick scenario of the story: Four male friends promises to take care of a deceased friend little sister. It's about what happens when one of the friends finds himself in love with the little sister after she grows up. It's also about the ups and downs of the four male friends, their interaction with each other, their mates, and the "little sister." His writing is absolutely tight. The dialogue 'tween characters flow. Characters who aren't necessary right or wrong - but as in reality, many different shades of gray. I found myself too many times laughing out loud at the dialog. Real brothers in real situations. With a realistic ending - which normally with other authors I feel stupid investing valuable time only to be duped in the end. With all of the many authors who think anyone can tell a story, Mr. Major shows how to tell a story just right!! To all the other authors, who believe that we readers will read anything, take note - there's an author that's steadily coming up on the horizon to take your place! Mr. Major, it's safe to say that you have definitely evaluated yourself back high on my list with FOUR GUYS AND TROUBLE, and I cannot wait for your next novel or to get together with my bookclub to read, as our monthly selection!!!!
Rating: Summary: It's a Winner Review: "Four Guys and Trouble" is full of fun, excitment, romance, and drama. From the beginning, you will find yourself laughing out loud at the panks of Ibn, Mike, Colin and Dexter; four guys who believe they got it "gonnin on". Wait til you meet, Ibn. No one compares to him, with his never-ending advise on women. (or should I say....) Bunches is smart, sexy, and she has a way with getting what she wants from all of the friends. Marcus has definately written a story that will be talked about for a long time. If you loved "Good Peoples", you will want to read this one too.
Rating: Summary: All That Trouble Review: Ibn, Colin, Michael, & Dexter have all known each other since college when one of their closest buddies died a promise of sincere gesture of watching over his baby sister is made but when that little sister is all grown up and graduating from college the brothers take in their own hands to make sure that she is taken care of. Erika is a medical student who has fallen in love with one of the brothers and isn't too sure what to do about it. When all of the brothers are known to act on feelings a test to discover how far everything goes is set into place.
Erika plays the lady model in the lives of the brothers she is known to give them advice on their lady friends and she is known to scold them when they have done wrong.
