Rating: Summary: Another Job Well Done! Review: This second full novel was a wonderful and well crafted read. As always, Major has a wonderful sense of humor and couple with a warm hearted story this was a hard to put down book. The characters were very different as they search for that special someone. The issues touched upon are issues many in our communities deal with everyday. No relationship is perfect and nothing can be done to make a doomed relationship better if the feelings are one sided. Readers will get a chance to laugh and think about some of the games single men and women play. However, in the end love prevails.
Rating: Summary: Engrossed Review: I really enjoyed this book. Mr. Major made me feel like I had known the characters all my life. I liked the bond that was shared by the characters and the commitment to do whatever was needed for their loved ones. Mr. Major has done it again!
Rating: Summary: I Loved This Book Review: It was so refreshing to travel along with Ibn, Colin, Dexter, Michael and Erika (Bunches since we're friends) through the eyes of a male's point of view. Again, I LOVE THIS BOOK. 4 Guys and Trouble offered the type of story line where the pages literally turned themselves from start to finish. As a reader you will want the pages to continue turning but, not too fast, fearing the story would end at the blink of an eye. By no means do I consider myself to be a fast reader however, to give you an idea of how this book captivated my attention, I was able to complete this book within two days. The characters appeared so real that they warmed my heart, widen my smile, and lightened my day. This story line is just what many African-American movie go'ers crave to see at their local cinema. If you loved Love Jones, Soul Food or The Best Man (or just strong black men) you will absolutely love 4 Guys and Trouble when it comes to life at your local theater. Until then, pick-up the book and enjoy my new found friends.
Rating: Summary: A Fun Read Review: The general premise for the book of four guys taking care of, protecting, and interfering in the lives of one of their friend's little sister was interesting. It is cause for funny mishaps and adventures as little sister grows into a beautiful young lady. The double standards employed by the four guys in the book concerning their protection of the young lady and their own different set of standards for the women in their lives are hilarious and illuminating. They are so desirous of protecting this lovely creature from awful men, yet several of the four guys think it is OK to treat women in the same "awful" way. Also, the four guys own relationships with women makes for an interesting read. Many times book reviewers state a book is "funny" and "rollicking" and the book does not live up to the reviews. Well this book is definitely funny and a pleasure to read. Four Guys and Trouble will keep you interested, preoccupied and there are at least four or five heartwarming, wonderful, or funny big scenes in this book. Excellent book. Read and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: 4 guys and trouble Review: Fabulous Novel!Enterntaining yet serious approach to the entire topic of male-female friendships as they cross the line to one of a romantic nature. I look forward to reading more novels from this author.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I loved this book. After reading Good Peoples I knew this book was going to be something special. This book presented a very realistic view of black male friendships. I thought it was a nice touch that Mike, Colin, Ibn and Dexter made a promise to their dying friend to look after his sister Bunches. This book is thought provoking, funny and entertaining. Is there a sequel on the horizon, Marcus? I hope so! Don't let this book pass you by.
Rating: Summary: Got to have it Review: I too am having M.M. withdrawls. I found myself rereading Good Peoples just the other day. His stories are full of laughter and real situations we all can relate to. I've recommended 4 guys to everyone I know. It's was so nice to read about such a beautiful relationship that just didn't pop up overnight. This was a true love that was built up over a period of years between two people who were friends first. The friendship between four frats, the bond that they all had with the frat who was no longer with them. That's a strong bond. No one could break it. And to take in the sister like it was their own sister or child and care for her and love her was beautiful. I cried at the end of this one. I loved it, everything about it. Marcus, hurry up with the next one!!
Rating: Summary: Thing's Aren't all ways what you think they should be. . .. Review: Marcus did another come back. This is a hilarious and entertaining novel that captivated my attention and held it until the very end. In 4G&T, Marcus brought us four young and young at heart very successful AA men have experience pain, laughter, anger, frustration and loyalty. As Frat brother Dexter, Colin, Michael and Ibn are bound by their loyalty to their "fraternity" and by their love for their little sister Bunches. When Bunches loses her older brother the fraternity brothers made a promise that they intended to keep "by what-ever-mean's" necessary to take care of Bunches. Erika "Bunches" is now matured into a beautiful young woman, pursed her promising career as a doctor and yet seeking to gain her independence from her brothers. Though they're not trying to hear that . . . they see her as Bunches. They each in their own independent way have only her vested interest at heart. Absolutely 'no man" is good enough for Bunches. Though they don't have their own houses in order . . . they still find time to make sure no one is creeping into Erika's. Ibn is the "Mac daddy" of them all and lives with his girlfriend Tiffany for years. He thinks because he's given her such a lavish lifestyle by buying her the finest of finest, she'll never leave. Does Tiffany turn the table's?. . . . Only time will tell. Colin loves Stacy to the extent of it being frightening. He's such a good guy that it seems that everyone he's every dated has mess over and attempted to manipulate him in some way. . . even his own mother. Does Colin ever wake up? . . . Only time will tell. Then there's Michael who is spending quite a bit of time with his former college friend, who has a reputation but truly being easy when they were in school. Yet he'd never been with her intimately at that time, everyone else had. Now she comes along, she's saved and is a totally different person. But the question is can Michael keep her interested? Or will she hold his interest? Last but certainly not the least is Dexter who is this religious person . . . . Well praying brother. Dexter finds himself faced with a dilemma of being a "Daddy" . . .. oh no. . . . what is he to do now? Now Dexter find's his life in such turmoil, so many questions . . . not enough answers. . . too much manipulation . . . Is Dexter really happy about becoming a Father?. . . Will he like so many others, make the best of it? . . . Do the right thing? Truly the books holds lots of character and such a colorful dialogues of witty yet contemporary relationships. These situations will make you laugh out loud and then on the other hand have you feel such great empathy with the fellas as they face real life situations. Major's writing is very strong, entertaining; deep (for some) fast paced and yet stills a page-turner. I'd definitely recommend it for your library.
Rating: Summary: Oh My Goodness! Review: First let me say , I am going through Marcus Major withdrawal! I have read everything that he has published and in some cases re-read some of his work. Having said that "4 guys and Trouble" MM's latest project is a MUST READ. The story is about the friendship between 4 frat brothers and a young woman Erika , better known as Bunches. The guys in this story were all different and realistic. IBN Barrington oh my goodness, what a character, he is the one that you love to hate and at the same time hate to love. He goes from being self-centered to sensitive in seconds. The book was overall a great read. I read it in one seating. Tiffany's revenge was one of the best things i read in ages. Oh my goodness, I laughed so hard I almost... well you know the rest. Marcus Major has done it again, you will laugh, cry, and symphatize. One word of caution however if you are offended easily by "colorful language" this book has alot of it. It was so great to read about Amir in this book. Ever wonder what happened when Amir & IBN were roaming the streets at the same time . Oh my goodness mothers lock your daughters up! Great JOB Marcus I am soooooo looking forward to your next work and I hope it's a sequel to 4 guys and trouble Daphney Auguste Ebony Page-Turner bookclub
Rating: Summary: Great book!! Review: I thought this was a really great story. I could just feel the emotions going through the characters. Even the characters from "Good Peoples" came up. I'm glad everyone finally got it together at the end.
