Rating: Summary: When is the next book in the series due? Review: I love Christina Dodd's writing....this book would have been rated 5 stars if I knew when the next in the series was coming...I just can't stand waiting. A preview would have been nice too. This book was funny, suspenseful, touching and just the easiest read. It 'll be interesting to find out what has been happening to the demure Eleanor and where Madeline and Gabriel will fit in since it's Madleine's fiance that Eleanor has been with...Keep up the good work!!!
Rating: Summary: As usual - Christina does not disappoint! Review: I loved the story of Madeline and Gabriel. The story moves quickly and is funny and sensual and everything in between. Christina always leaves you waiting for the next book, and this was no exception. I love the way her characters interact. I don't even read the back of her books before buying - if it is Christina it is worth purchasing. I have all her books - they are keepers and read them over and over. I still love reading 'Castles in the Air' and 'Candles in the Window' and all the others. If you haven't tried her, please do. I promise you that you will be hooked.
Rating: Summary: Scandalous Again Review: I really enjoyed this book by Christina Dodd but then I haven't read any book written by her that I haven't enjoyed. I think she puts a lot of thought into her characters. I would like to see a third book to find out what happens to Lady Thomasin.
Rating: Summary: Scandalous........ Again......Great Book Review: I think this book was great! I loved the characters and the plot. I have read all of Christina's book and I love everyone one of them. From reading the expert on the back I wasn't sure if this one was gonna be as good as all her other books. But I should have known anything with Christina's name on it is wonderful and this book was no exception. I couldn't put it down. I love when you cast two strong people against and for each other it makes the reading so much fun. And I can't wait to read the next book. I usually base my feelings about a book on whether I can feel the emotions that the author is tring to convey. If I can then it is a great book. If I have to stretch my mind then It isn't so great a book. If it makes me laugh out loud, makes me want to reach into the story and slap a character, or if it makes me cry like a baby. These are the feelings that make a book worth reading and I experience all of these when I read one of Christina's book. But i truly liked this book and if you did then I recommend you read the governess books they were great also.
Rating: Summary: Good book, but writing errors almost ruined it. Review: I think this book would have been better is Ms. Dodd gets a better proofreader. The story is good but there was so many writing errors that I didn't want to finish the book sometimes. For example, Madeline is not a duchess yet b/c her dad did not die yet, but everyone calls her Your Grace? Another example is when Ms. Dodd means sojourn, but in the book it is adjourn. I mean 1 to 5 errors is okay, but 10 to 20.......that is just to many for a book that is published. Also, Ms. Dodd needs to research her eras (circa 1808) better b/c she made many mistakes when referencing that time period. I would advise, don't but it........borrow it from someone instead.
Rating: Summary: Boring Again Review: Madelaine de Lacy, Duchess of Magnus has swapped places with her cousin Eleanor to be a lady's companion so that she can attend the Game of the Century to stop her father from gambling away the family's heirloom, the Queen's tiara. On arrival at Chalice Hall, she meets Gabriel Ansell, Lord Campion, the fiance that she deserted 4 years ago. Will Madelaine resist the charms of Gabriel and will they trust each other enough to stop the scam that is the Game of the Century? This is my second book by Christina Dodd and will probably be my last. I had trouble finishing the book and alsmost gave up half way through. The danger lurking in the background didn't really get off to a start and you could predict the ending. There was no chemistry between Gabriel and Madelaine except for one sex scene which was quite hot. Apart from this scene give the book a miss and read a book by other historical romantic authors who do a much better job. Lealing
Rating: Summary: Sensually Sensational Review: Madeline 'Maddy' de Lacy, the duchess of Magnus always thought herself to be the most sensible woman in England, calm and collected, even when coming home after a sojourn of four years on the continent, she could not believe that her father had , with the turn of a card, lost not only his entire estate, but her as well - to a stranger! Thinking her father was now about to lose the most valuable possession left, her priceless tiara, she concocts a plan with her cousin Eleanor, to switch places. Eleanor would go on to London to meet with the man who had won her while she, Madeline would go to the country 'game of the century ' and try to dissuade her father from losing this last piece of her inheritance. Posing as a companion was a stretch for Madeline, who gave 'bossy' a new meaning. Pretending to be meek and humble, being seen and not heard, ironing a dress - none of these things were in her repertoire of skills - but nothing could be worse than running into Gabriel Ansell, the earl of Campion and her former fiancé that she had run from and been trying to forget these last four years. As always, this was a sensually sensational romantic read from the extremely gifted Christina Dodd. She has given us a heroine who used her courage and intelligence to survive the dysfunctional neglect her absent-minded gamester father put her through from the time she was a child. The secondary characters, and their humorous dialogs are wonderful as Gabriel and Maddy come to terms with their feelings for one another, and finally giving him her complete trust when her very life was on the line! Furthermore, Maddy's very sensual surrender will have you squirming in your seat. I cannot wait for the sequels to this book. Lady Thomasin, was a delight and I surely hope that we get to read her story as well as Eleanor, who traded places with Maddy to go and meet the mysterious Mr. Knight! FABULOUS read - and a treasure for my keeper shelf!
Rating: Summary: Scandalously dull Review: Madeline is a spoilt and petulant infant throughout, so much so that we really never get to see a relationhip between she and her ex Gabriel develop. It's like everything happened 4 years ago when they first slept together, so why bother making them fall in love. But pouting is not attractive in any romance heroine, any more than sexist alpha male posturing is for the hero. This book has far too much of both. There is far too much crass and slapstick humour to give the book any sizzle at all. The most thrilling romantic thing in the whole book is a massage using oil and then sex? Really. Use a bit of imagination here! Yawn. If this is spicy, everyone in the universe must eat paper. Gabriel leaves me neutral as a hero-he really doesn't have enough spine or personality to care about him one way or the other, and his motives for revenge also do not bode well for the couple. Dodd was recommended as an author to me, but I have most definitely read better. This book has no real romance, just a pacy story line with lots of men running around wielding their weapons. Make of that sentence what you will! The ending is a real disappointment, designed only to lead up to the next book in the series, and thus a real failure to tie up the loose ends in the novel and convince us this couple has a hope of being in love, or being in love for all time. A romance is about a couple falling in love. The sooner some so-called romance writers remember that, the better.
Rating: Summary: Christina Dodd does it again!!!... Review: Once again Ms. Dodd has written a great book. I loved reading about Madeline and Gabriel. Madeline is a strong heroine just like the rest of Ms. Dodd's heroines. Madeline keeps Gabriel on his toes through out the story and keeps the reader interested in what will happen next. The sparing between the two main characters kept things interesting and it was easy to see that these were not your usual main characters of a book. Something i greatly enjoyed seeing. I am anxiously awaiting the sequel to this story to see what happens to Eleanor who was first introduced in this book. I highly recommend this book along with any of Ms. Dodd's books. Ms. Dodd has yet again made it to my keeper list and I plan on buying Eleanor's story the moment it hits the shelves.
Rating: Summary: Scandalous Again Review: Once again, Christina Dodd wows us with another unique, amazing story. This is no cookie cutter, where you know where to find the first kiss on page so and so. The story is a page turner that keeps you going, boredom will not enter the scenario. The characters are wonderful, you'll love to hate some and adore the ones you love. You'll feel the sunshine in the breakfast room, feel the rain upon your skin and her hero is as tasty as the rare roast beef that is painted in on of her descriptive scenes. A wonderful, fun story. Enjoy!
