Summary: Blah...
Review: I am usually a huge fan of Christina Dodd's novels, but this one left me feeling bored. The magic that Dodd has created in her other novels was sorely missing in this one. The characters were boring and the plot was dumb. I felt like I never really got to know who the characters were. Although I want to know Eleanor and Mr. Knight's story, I think I will wait for it to hit the stands at the used book store. I hope this isn't a sign of Dodd's future works.

Summary: She's back on track!
Review: I bought this book with some trepidation because I haven't been overly impressed with Dodd's latest books, but I have to say that Scandalous Again was superb! Dodd utilized timely flashbacks that moved the plot along, and the characters had relatively believable motivation (our heroine was trying to keep her father from gambling away their prized herloom.) There was danger and humor and a delightful substory regarding a debutante and her stepmother. I have been reading a bunch of mediocre books lately (such as Candace Camp's latest) so I'm forever in Dodd's debt for writing such an entertaining tightly woven story. I can't wait to read the second of this two book series!

Summary: What Happened?
Review: I buy Christina's books on name only. I love her stories. She uses great humor and dialog. Big Sigh. I still love her stories and I will still buy her books on name only, but I was very disappointed in this one. I never liked the hero. I never felt the connection between the two characters. There was no getting to know them, no watching them get to know each other. Sure we know they had a past, but even the brief vignettes didn't capture or share the magic her characters normally express. And all this happened over a period of 3 days, just too unrealistic, even in a romance book. I'll buy the 2d book but I'm hoping the magic comes back.

Summary: Best ever!
Review: I didn't know if Christina Dodd could write anything but governess books, but this book is a whole different slant. Madeline is a duchess. Her cousin Eleanor is her companion. They change places and Madeline pretends to be a companion to retrieve a family heirloom. She's awful at everything she's supposed to do, and the girl she's a companion to doesn't even want her to do her hair. Worse, she meets her ex-fiance, Gabriel Ansell, and he wants her back as his lover and his wife. I seldom laugh and fan myself at the same time, but I did in this book. Hot and funny!

Also recommended -- Runaway Princess and In My Wildest Dreams.

Summary: Always good with Dodd
Review: I enjoyed this book, as I do with all Christina Dodd novels. Her novels flow so well and keep me interested in reading. I liked the main characters and like how she lead into a sequel by just giving you enough to be interested. I did think there was some loose end that I hope may be tied up in the next novel which I will read soon. What a father! To loose his daughter gambling. I think it's a good overall book for those who like historical romances with a little spice.

Summary: Disappointed for the first time
Review: I have always loved Christina Dodd's books--until now. I couldn't really grow attached to any of the characters, the setting for the story was unpleasant, a lot of the pages were just fillers,(this could have easily been a short story instead of a book) and--to add insult to injury--it ends with a cliffhanger which will need to be resolved in the next book. The least Dodd could have done for a reader who struggled to get to the last page is to finish the book in a satisfying way. The only positive thing I can say is that the next book in the series HAS TO BE better.

Summary: wonderful read!!
Review: I have read all of Christina Dodd's books, and this one is, by far, her best to date! Scandalous Again is the tale of Madeline de Lacy, the future duchess of Magnus, and her x-fiancee, Gabriel Ansell. This is the first book in a while that I have read that the characters were so well balanced, with believable personalities and character flaws. Most times you will find in historical romances that the female is always putty in the male's hands. Not so in Scandalous Again. Maddie is very independant, and headstrong due to her fathers gambling problem, and she has a big problem trusting anyone, especially Gabriel, who is also a notorious gambler. Thoughout the story Gabriel is trying to gain Maddie's trust, and avenge his little brothers death, all the while trying to keep Maddie's secret, that she is really a duchess posing as a companion, at one of the biggest parties of the ton!! All in all, I believe anyone that reads this book will be happy they did. The little foibles that Dodd puts our heroine in make for a great read alone. Just imagine a Duchess trying to iron!

Summary: DISAPPOINTING
Review: I have to agree with the reviewer who wrote "not up to par." My sentiments exactly! Ms. Dodd writes about a couple who were romantically involved in the past and broke up. We meet up with them four years later. It just didn't work in this case. I think their earlier story would have been more interesting. The book ends with a strong suggestion of a sequel. Let's hope it's an improvement.

Summary: Loved this, but love the second one a little bit more.
Review: I liked the two leading characters, the duchess that had to work as a companion and her ex fiance' were very entertaining. I did not like some of the story, it was a little confusing at times. But Dodd portrays her characters with more than one dimension. Madeline's father is a twit, but he does love her. He doesn't redeem himself in this book and it does leave some parts not finished, but in the second book, it is wrapped up satisfactorily. Gabriel was delicious, at least I thought he was, and thier banter was exciting, it spiced up the story. My favorite ones are when they fight like mad, because then you know the making up part will be just as passionate. So I do recommend this book, but I am waiting IMpatiently for the next Governess Bride installment if there is to be one.
