Summary: Very Tedious Reading
Review: I am a huge fan of Deveraux's. This book seemed to be something she wrote as an afterthought. The beginning of book shows promise, but as the pages are turned, the torture begins. I couldn't wait to finish it just so that I could begin another book.

Summary: A great catch!
Review: I got this book because I love all of Judes book and as soon as I opened the page I was enraptured with it. Axia is a girl that was never let out of her house and her only campianion was tode her friend and the other campionion her beatiful vain cousin Frances. Axia meets Jamie when he climbs over the wall to get a look at Frances whom he mistakens for the Maiden Hall hERISS. Axia lets him belive what he will and the whole story takes from there. I found this book to be one of Judes best and I hope you do to!

Summary: Very Enjoyable
Review: I very much enjoyed this story. Ms. Devereaux has such a wonderful light touch with her characters. The Hero's family was priceless, and very nicely drawn as were the characters who surrounded the heroine. Lots of humor, too!

Summary: One of her best!
Review: I was drawn to this book because I have read all velvet series and enjoyed the Montgomeries. I also was excited to know who amongst the brothers Jaime Montgomery belonged to. I was hoping to read more updates on the velvet's series family. Sad to say, the book did mentioned Jaime's father but with no name nor did it mention any velvet brothers. Nevertheless, I have enjoyed this love story very much. I didn't regret buying it. The confusions of love, pride and honor made the book interesting from front to end. The choice between Jaime's sisters comfort and love for a woman made it also even more compelling. Jude Deveraux describes each thoughts & emotions with great impact. This book not only made me laugh but it made me cry as well. The letter from Axia's father was heart quenching in the end. It was the least I expected. I do not want to give it away for those who haven't read it. A must buy and a keeper.

Summary: Classic Jude Deveraux
Review: I've been reading a lot of more recent Jude Deveraux novels - The Summerhouse, The Mulberry Tree, etc. I had skipped this one and went back to read it. It is BY FAR the best Jude Deveraux I've read in a while. The characters are likable, and it sticks to the basic romance storyline and doesn't get lost in a million other storylines like more recent JD novels. If you are new to Deveraux, I suggest starting with this book, or another one written before it. You'll be more than pleased.

Summary: Great Set-up/disappointing finish
Review: I've just discovered Jude Deveraux and have been rapidly devouring all her books I can find. The premise, the hero, heroine and supporting characters were original and entertaining...the handsome, honorable, yet desperate hero who must marry for money to save his family's home and lands attempts to woo the remote beautiful "heiress" but slowly falls in love with her outspoken, passionate and trouble-making "cousin." Add a blind sister for the hero, a physically deformed yet loyal and courageous "jester" friend of the heroine--and you should have a fascinating mix of characters to work with. And Ms. Deveraux does a great job with them--until about the last 100 pages when it seems that either a deadline or an idea for her next book was demanding that she tie everything up as quickly as possible without regard for keeping her characters acting in character. This otherwise great book deserves a better thought-out resolution of the original conflicts.

Summary: One of My Favorites
Review: I've read a dozen of Ms. Deveraux novels, including the entire Velvet series, and this novel, The Heiress, ranks as one of my favorites. Jamie Montgomery was an incredible character with a lot more substance than most leading men of romance novels. How refreshing that this was not a story of just another rich titled ladies' man sweeping the virginal maiden off her reluctant feet. The last chapter, short on details, was too easy an ending but the epilogue was a pleasant surprise...you will enjoy this one!

Summary: Hard to finish!!!
Review: It took me a month to finish this book! Usually I am more than willing to stay up all night to finish a Jude Deveraux book. (I LOVED "Rememberance"!!!) For every few pages from "The Heiress" that I was able to make myself read, I would put the book down and take a few days break. The book was hard for me to get interested in, but I forced myself to finish it because it was a Jude Deveraux book. I think the surprise ending made up for the rest of the book, but I would not recommend getting this just for that. Do yourself a favor and borrow it from the library. You'll satisfy your curiosity without feeling stupid about paying for this book.
