Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Best romance ever written, no matter your age Review: Jude Deveraux is the best author of our time, even from a fifteen year old's point of view. This book, sweet liar, was the first, and the best romance I have ever read. Since I read this book, I have read hundreds more, and none can compare. I have read Sweet Liar so many times, that the pages are worn, and the cover has fallen off. All of Ms. Deveraux's novels are good, but this one is her best. It is suspenseful, romantic, an all-around Great book. A must read for romance lovers. True to form, her characters are amazing, believable, and charming, the kind of people you wish you could know. Mike and Sam sweep you away on an adventure you never want to end, and thankfully, Ms. Deveraux mentions them again in other stories, (She includes them in both of a Holiday of love and a Gift of love, which are collections of short stories.) A great plot, lots of charm, and hot romance, this is a great book
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: This is a great romance novel. Review: Samantha Elliot arrived in New York to search for her grandmother, alone, her parents dead, and her divorce final. Her father left her an apartment in the city and asked Michael Taggert to look after both Samantha and the apartment. Her father's dying wish was for Samantha to find out what had happened to her Grandmother. She had dissapeared from Sam and her father's life when Samantha was a baby. The relationship that has developed between these two people is very awkward because it changes very rapidly. At some points they will become very close to eachother and will then suddenly be distant. Michael agrees to help Samantha find her grandmother and she finds herself falling in love with him, but will it stay that way or will it change? Read this great romance novel to find out what happens. I thought this was a great book. I enjoyed reading it because the romance was so great, and I enjoyed the humor. I would often get to a point where I didn't want to set the book down. I would reckomend this book to people who like great romance adn humorous novels.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: There are better ones to read Review: I picked up this tape to read on a trip. It my first and I wasn't impressed. I recommend reading the book if you are going to get it. The tape was dry and lacking. BLAH! The story was interesting and I agree! Michael would be a "dream come true." But Sam seemed to be lacking something. Again, maybe it was just the tape. Single, 28 years old and alone, Sam Elliott arrives in New York after burying her father. It has been an emotional roller coaster for her. One that she has been experiencing privately only- since she is not one to show her emotions to others. She has instructions to a certain apartment that is her's from her father for a year while she is to finish her father's business and possible help her put pieces to the puzzle of her life together. Mike Taggart is the landlord- a sweetheart for sure. Being an author (Mike is writing a book about the Prohibition-era and gangsters, especially Doc Barrett) Mike likes putting pieces of puzzles together. And Sam is a puzzle. Mike won't let Sam "pull back into the cacoon" like she wants to do. Sam's grandmother disappeared when Sam was little and it is her father's wish that Sam find the missing piece of the puzzle -WHY. Mike helps her with it while helping her out of depression and finding reason in her life. The story was slow but there's romance and humor there. Mike's family is fun and he's got money that he spends on Sam which is FUN. But I would have to rate this read as average. There are better ones out there. Or atleast don't listen to the audio. Try reading the book. The story didn't interest me enough to get the book and see what I missed out on.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Oh Michael, Michael! Review: It has been almost a year since I read SWEET LIAR. I had just begun reading Jude Deveraux's books and came upon it by accident. At first I was a bit leary, since I had determined I would only read historical romance. I am so happy that I gave this book a try. It is one of my favorites. After reading about Mike Taggert, a woman's ideas about an ideal man truly change. There aren't words to describe just how incredible he is. And while Samantha takes a lot of criticism, I liked her. I especially loved seeing a modern female who is actually excited about being a mom. The whole "Maxie" plot was intriguing. And for the reviewer who seemed to say that this plot was taken from a same-named movie - well, nobody saw that movie, but lots of people have read this book and loved it. Oh Michael, Michael...
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of the Best Review: I just got through reading Sweet Liar last night and I must say that it is one of my favorite books so far. It is full of mystery and romance. It will keep you on your toes and wanting to read the entire book before putting it down. I highly recommend anyone who has not read this book to do so.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: What can I say but YUM!! Review: When I started getting into romance, this was one of my first reads. To say the least, it has stuck with me through the years and I got tired of waiting for the ONE copy our library has to come around again so I could check it out again for the millionth time. Eventually I just bought a hardcover copy here at Amazon.com and have not regretted it. Mike and Sam have become the characters that I base every other couple against. They are so extremely perfect for each other and I have to admit that I, like several other fans, am quite in love with Mike! I also enjoy the shopping scene, but my favorite is without a doubt the bar scene when Sam tries out her "acting skills" on Mike. Yummy-yum-yum. Some have said they don't like Sam. I don't see what's not to like! She is very human and after being treated like she's unimportant for so many years, she has begun to believe it. It's hard not to love Sam when she comes downstairs wearing that tattered pink sweat suit and you just kind of hold your breath for her as she walks down those crowded New York streets feeling like a fool! Or when she cuddles up with Maxie on her bed and makes her sidecars. Or when she picks the most troublesome twin toddlers to take home with her at the picnic. On another note, now I can't help but wish that I had someone to lounge on my bed feeding me chocolate chip muffins like hottie Mike... I guess you get the point that this book is worth reading, so long as you don't mind falling in live with a fictional character named Michael (SEXY) Taggert.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: This Book is Ok Review: I've heard this said before about other books, but now it is something that has actually happened to me - with this book. I remember reading the preview before this novel came out & I was so excited to read it. However, now it is the year 2002 and I started to read this book, I thought for the first time. However, when I came to about page 250, the scene when Samantha meets Michael's family at the huge picnic, where all 100, no 200, no 300, no 400, congregated so they could all meet Samantha, i realized I had actually read this book. Nothing in this novel stood out in my mind, except the family picnic. And now that I think about it, I think it stood out in my mind because Dougless & Reed were mentioned, who are the characters of my FAVORITE Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor, and I wish & wish & wish I could read more about them. But anyways, for my review of this book, I would have to give it 3.5 stars. The book seemed to lag. It didn't really flow. It felt like it took me forever to finish. The last 75 pages or so sped up, I wish the whole novel would have been written with the same action and interest that the last part of the book had. I really like Michael Taggert, he is a total dream and a half, but Samantha's character seemed really self-righteous and bratty and totally oblivious. Her life was extremely sad, but I don't think that gives us an excuse to be self-righteous. However, her character started to change, a little, and she became more bearable. I think this story just tells us how much men appreciate a challenge. But one thing i REALLY liked about this novel was the setting! Living in NYC would be soooooo totally an amazing experience. I have mixed feelings about this book. It was extremely sad and painful in some parts. And it was totally sweet and amazing and awesome in some parts. All in all, I believe it is an average job for Ms. Deveraux; however, average for Deveraux is quite good in the wide world of female romantic fiction. This isn't a rave review, but it's not a rotten one either. It's an average review. But I guess I expect a lot when I am reading a Jude Deveraux novel. :-) I didn't like "High Tide" either. That one is a skipper. But this was much better than that novel. So if you read "High Tide" and liked it, you'll really like "Sweet Liar". (And does anyone know of families like the Montgomerys and Taggerts where all the men are gorgeous, all the women are drop dead beautiful, and everyone of them has, or ends up having, lots and lots more money than the average American? Why am I complaining though, this is FICTION!)
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: i haven't even read it Review: but from the reviews i know that every page would make me gag. first clue: best book ever read BY A 13-YR-OLD. 'nuff said.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: oh sweet, sweet Mike Review: GREAT book. The plot was amazing but let's be honest, this book gets 5 stars because of Michael Taggert. He's my second favorite Jude character (Jace Montgomery being the first). He's protective of Samantha, he respects her, he's sweet, smart, funny; everything you want in a male character. However, WHY did Jude have to make him so obsessed with getting Sam into bed?? Why couldn't he have just loved her without worrying about when he was gonna get some action? Oh well, he's still perfect.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Ooh, baby! Review: I am in love with Mike Taggert. If the best looking man I had ever met and hadn't even spoken to yet gave me the most passionate kiss I have ever had in my entire life, I would waste no time marrying him. But, hey, some people are wiser than I, and that somebody would be Samantha. She got to know that he was really a great guy first. Patient, caring, smart, monogomous... I wish I could bring him to life. Anyways, about the story. Samantha learns how to really love, especially herself, to feel what love really is, in an effort to uncover the past and find her biological grandmother. Mike is with jer on her journey as her "guardian" and helps her uncover the past of her grandparents. The one thing I don't like about this book was Mike getting her pregnant intentionally. Now, mind you, I would have a dozen of his children, I would just like to talk about it first. This isn't the best review I have given, but it was a fun story, so take my word for it, and the 30 other who reviewed, and read it. Great fun!
