Review: Famed rodeo star Toby Randall, the oldest of the Randall cousins, has returned home to the Randall family ranch. Not a Randall by blood, Toby is as fiercely devoted to his adoptive family as any other Randall. It is this loyalty that forced him to leave for so long in the first place. Toby's "attraction" to his cousin, Elizabeth Randall, was something he knew his family wouldn't understand. News has reached Toby that Elizabeth is engaged, meaning it will be safe for Toby to return home and start his horse training business. But one look at Elizabeth tells Toby's heart that there is no way he is going to get over his feelings that easily.

Elizabeth Randall has looked up to her older "cousin" Toby Randall all her life. Elizabeth's crush on him grew in to unrequited love years ago, and when the much older Toby left it nearly broke Elizabeth's heart. Deciding to return home after years away, the now grown Elizabeth has brought a fiancé with her. Yet, Elizabeth knows deep in her heart that this man isn't for her. One look at Toby tells her that he is the only man for her. Can she fight for her love, against her entire family? Elizabeth decides she must if she is ever to find true happiness.

My first read in Judy Christenberry's Randall series, RANDALL PRIDE can be hard to follow at times. The majority of the characters are all from the previous books and it takes a lot of effort on the reader's part to try to keep up with who is who. The love story between Elizabeth and Toby is a bittersweet one. These two tortured souls have loved each other all their lives, but due to family honor, they have put their personal feelings aside and denied their love. Raised together as "cousins," it is hard to put that factor aside, even though there is no blood between them. The overall story behind RANDALL PRIDE is a nice quick read that you could enjoy, however it is my recommendation to read the others in the series first.
