Summary: A clever read!
Review: As a true Jane Austen fan I felt compeled to read Melissa Nathan's twist on Pride and Prejudice. I was pleasently surprised by her witty dialogue and true understanding of Lizzy's character. Her novel is clever and well paced. I enthusiasticlly recommend it.

Summary: A wonderfully modern Pride & Prejudice
Review: I thought it was simply wonderful! I have been thinking of years about a modern day version of P&P and Ms. Nathan captured it perfectly! I loved the inside jokes that refered directly to P&P while other reviews fond them to be too obvious. It is a wonderful book and I look forward to further books by Ms. Nathan. If you love P&P, you will love this book.

Summary: A Quick, Delightful Read
Review: It took me one day to read this funny novel. Not only are the situations and characters funny, but my love for Austen's Pride and Prejudice caused me to eagerly anticipate the outcome I knew would happen, and laugh as Jasmin, Harry, and the rest managed to follow Austen's dance nearly two hundred years later. This book mixed modern day humour with the Austen love story wonderfully. The pace was fast, and although Jasmin is not Eliza Bennet, the book was a great way to spend my last weekend before classes begin.

Summary: Dumb, but addictive
Review: Yet another Bridget Jones clone, but a bit better than most. Follows plot of..you guessed it...Pride and Prejudice. But, like all these BJ clones-Jemima J., Getting Over It, Diary of a Shopaholic-the girl finally gets a rich guy and a great job at the end of the book. I'm not sure I need to read this same plot again, but I enjoyed the book anyway.

Summary: I wish I'd thought of this
Review: I'll start off by saying that Pride and Prejudice is probably my favorite book ever. There. I said it. That's probably why this book gets brownie points to begin with. There wasn't a tiny piece of Austen's plot that wasn't carefully moulded into the modern day story of P. P. and J. F. For her considerate conservation, I applaud her, and it provided for a very fun reading. However, I found that the humor was a bit forced, and, well, not funny. Perhaps it is just my own sense of humor, but what can I say. I have only read one other modern-day Austen adaption, Briget Jones' Diary. I found this one much more funny, although less true to the plot (which I think was intentional) and I enjoyed it thoroughly. B. J. D. was a more universal book, but J. F. was good, and I would reccomend it to anyone who loves the original as much as I do.

Summary: More, Please!
Review: Melissa Nathan is hilarious. Also clever. She knew exactly what she was writing when she wrote this book, and she wasn't trying to do anything beyond what she's done: write a witty and warm tip o' the hat to P&P. Which (P&P, that is) I have read at least five times, and of which I own three or four different film/video versions. I have hated every other Jane Austen pastiche I've ever read, but I *loved* this. I hope Ms. Nathan will turn her hand to Emma and Sense & Sensibility, too, because (a) I have finally accepted that Jane Austen isn't going to be writing any more novels herself, and (b) as I may have mentioned, I *adored* this book and I want more, more, more! I will understand if Ms. Nathan doesn't choose to oblige me: she's _very_ talented and might not want to feel she's repeating herself. But I also hope she realizes just how specious an argument that is--dear Miss Austen herself, after all, repeated the same formula--and goes ahead with Emma!

What can I say? When Pemberley showed up, it literally warmed my heart. This is a funny woman who knows her Austen.

Summary: Charming.
Review: A charming lightweight romantic story that's witty and very funny at times. A great summer read. Of course it's not Jane, ah-duh.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Lazy update...but it's still mindless fun
Review: I found PRIDE, PREJUDICE AND JASMIN FIELD disappointing because it showed a lack of imagination and initiative. I wanted the characters in this book to develop on their own rather than remain shadows of Jane Austen's wonderful characters. It felt like the author gave up and resorted to cramming her modern day characters into the P&P plot outline rather than taking the time to let them follow their own natural progression. I would have preferred a book that followed the P&P spirit and spunk more closely rather than the plot.

OK, now to say something nice. This book is not a bad read for lazy afternoons when all you want or can really handle is a story full of empty calories. It's mindless fun which we all need every now and then.

Summary: If you liked Briget Jones, you'll LOVE this!
Review: This book was so well written and charming, I finished it in one night. It has much more substance than Bridget Jones and a very similiar story line. You will love both the hero and the heroine. Read this book!

Summary: Sweet, and would make a first rate movie
Review: I'd say that definitely, I would much rather end up with Harry Noble than Austen's Mr. Darcy. Nathan writes with spunk and although her prose style is a little unsure in spots, the general tone is even and pleasant. The updating of Austen's novel in this style is pure genius. It was an enjoyable read and I've recommended it to many of my friends. If they can't sit through Austen's 2 centuries olf tome, I recommend this to give tham an idea of what they're missing. Even if they don't read Pride and Prejudice, they at least see the Colin Firth movie
